Holy crap: Minesweeper Expert in 38 seconds
If you're anything like us, the first time you watch this video of a 38-second expert minesweeper run, you'll probably think it's a sped-up fake. But all you doubting Thomases can actually download the raw MVF file for Minesweeper recorder The Clone and be amazed at how quickly those fingers can actually fly.
While you're at it, check out all the cool, ultra-obsessive content on Planet Minesweeper, which includes tips on mouse handling, a mathematical analysis of first click positions and a map of serious players nationwide. Seems some people use the game as much more than just a procrastination tool. Who knew?

I think it might be fake, where the countdown and timing are overlay.

Covert-X @ Feb 8th 2007 1:10PM
Too much time at the office to be honest.
Chad Wright @ Feb 8th 2007 1:27PM
I don't think I've even beat an expert game before.
rockintom99 @ Feb 8th 2007 1:42PM
Christ, people. Even with evidence to prove this is real (and I *have* seen it done at nearly this speed before), you guys are still quick to point out "lol fake". Pathetic.
Also, the whole "this guy needs a life" thing. You probably play video games too, right? Have you ever gotten good at one? Do you have no life as well?
ForcedSterilizationsForAll @ Feb 8th 2007 1:52PM
@rockintom99
Obviously they don't, if they spend all that time on here talking about how others don't have lives. :)
Tom @ Feb 9th 2007 3:34AM
How the hell do you even play that dumb game? I tried it once, like, on Windows 95. What do the numbers indicate?
SilverDogg @ Feb 8th 2007 2:00PM
this guy is good.
for me it still takes over 1 minute to complete it =(.
Rubang B @ Feb 8th 2007 2:06PM
Yes this video is real.
I used to rock Planet Minesweeper. My times for expert, intermediate, and beginner are 75, 24, and 4 seconds, giving me a total of 103 seconds for all 3. You're not considered an ultimate 1337 champion until you can get your total of all 3 high scores under 100, but I swear I can't shave off a single second on those scores.
I swear I'm better now.
MrGoodBytes @ Feb 8th 2007 2:32PM
hmmm, I never checked around to see if there was a High Score board.
I was never able to break the elusive 1 minute mark in expert, consistantly I was under 75 maxing out at 62 seconds.
my addiction became so bad that I had to switch to a trackball so timewise, I was no longer competitive [and have instructed all employer's since that I simply cannot have mindsweeper installed on my system]... Hi my name is Terry and I am a mindsweeper addict and I have been clean now for 7 years
Pikachelsea @ Feb 8th 2007 2:53PM
Gosh, this could've been a good news post but I think it really needed just a few more mid-sentence links, WHAT U THINK GUYZ?
Hall @ Feb 8th 2007 3:24PM
That's good how does he do in a game that dous'nt look like something you get free when you get a new computer. or at least play a game thatsmade in this decade
Chris @ Feb 8th 2007 3:35PM
FAKE!
look at the title of the window "minesweeper clone 2006"
Jake @ Feb 8th 2007 3:39PM

Dude, I hope you were kidding or have weird grammar. I mean, you do know what minesweeper is and where it comes from, right?
xdrewfacex @ Feb 8th 2007 4:12PM
i've always consider the double click tactic to be cheap. (clears out all surrounding boxes if marked mines are equal to number on square).
nevertheless, that is fantastic!
Airan @ Feb 8th 2007 4:03PM
I can never play Minesweeper effectively. I never understood the rules for some reason.
Rubang B @ Feb 8th 2007 4:34PM
He's using a program that records a live video of your game. It doesn't make it easier, it just makes your time official, and disables the cheats in the regular MineSweeper.
Andrew Hsieh @ Feb 8th 2007 4:39PM
@Chris: Read the post. It's a recorder to verify your cleartime.
Psaakyrn @ Feb 8th 2007 6:40PM

Play beginner long enough and you might be able to get the elusive "1 second", where the first click actually solves the whole puzzle for you. Got it twice before, but other than fluke wins like that, 4 seconds is also my fastest..
Paul @ Feb 8th 2007 7:53PM
There is a HACK for minesweeper in XP, for those who don't already know.....
When you start the game press XYZZY then hold down Shift. You will see a single white pixel appear at the top-left corner of the screen. When you hover over a bomb, this white pixel will disappear. How see if YOU are an expert at Minesweeper too! Psh
Rubang B @ Feb 8th 2007 6:52PM
Please don't tempt me. I've been clean for a year and a half. If I get the lucky 1 second beginner, I'll still have a total of 100, and have to shave off a second on either intermediate or expert, and that's where I'm screwed, because I'm not ready for the "no flags" method. Those guys are intense.
curt_fehr @ Feb 8th 2007 11:17PM
The mouse movements looked too static. I could write a program to do that in an evening. Solving algorithm , screen capture-interpretation, and mouse movements/events. That's all it is. Too easy.
mocax @ Feb 9th 2007 7:31AM
Minesweeper on Vista is teh rox0rz! New graphics and awesome sound effects!
But I'm hooked on that Hold'Em poker game...
That guy's just lucky in getting all the easy placements.
Soapyshoes @ Feb 9th 2007 1:32PM
@26 You mean something like this?

They've addressed it already at planetminesweeper.
