Sony: 'Killzone won't be [at] GDC at all'
And like a rifle butt to the ocular cavity, the spark of hope in our eyes was handily extinguished with SCEA Manager, Ryan Bowling telling IGN, "No, Killzone won't be [at] GDC at all." Really? The game was a no-show at both E3 and TGS last year; in fact, the only thing we've heard (besides rumors) following the title's infamous E3 2005 debut is that it's the "biggest multimedia project in Dutch history." So, if that rumored Killzone 2 demo won't be making an appearance at GDC after all, and E3 is gone, when will it crawl out of the foxhole it's been hiding in for the last two years? Says Bowling, "The time for that game is coming and we'll have new information about it in the future, but not at GDC."

Hope? Are you fucking kidding me? The only hope I have is that Killzone will dies and be buried in a coward's grave.

Don't have to be an Xbox fanboy to laugh at Sony. There's a huge difference between laughing and gloating.
Don't worry - Gamepro says Sony has better exclusives than the Xbox 360. (chuckle)
Virtua Fanboy @ Feb 8th 2007 7:40PM
Wow, that game must look like shit. At least they are keeping it under wraps til they get it as close as that fucking lie of a trailer at E3 '05.
Really though, I hope Killzone 2 is great. I bought the first one and I was totally unimpressed, so I gave it to my brother-in-law (casual gamer at best) so he could compete when he comes over for the Halo marathons that me and my friends have from time to time. LOL
Grindstone @ Feb 8th 2007 7:45PM
And the Halo 3 juggarnaut goes on unabated.
Nice try though. I'm sure someone somewhere wet himself thinking there would be a Killzone 2 demo "Halo killer" to piss on his parade. Thankfully, he can change his underpants a still walk tall.

I hypothesize KillZone will meet expectations a la' Gears of War and be cross platform PS3 - 360 when it releases in Spring of 2008.
Call me an analyst - my predictions are as good as theirs
OTAM @ Feb 8th 2007 8:08PM
I still would like to know....at what point in time did Killzone become a huge AAA title overnight? I thought that game was crap on the PS2 and it make no waves at all when it came out,so why is Sony boasting this game like it's some huge accomplishment? As far as i'm concerned Killzone 2 signifies the start of the downward spiral Sony has been on since that E3,that's it.
Jake @ Feb 8th 2007 8:02PM
And Bungie lets out a collective sigh of relief. Man, that was close.

Whoever thought target videos where a good idea should be taken out back and shot. I fully expect Killzone to get a solid B when it comes out.

Personaly I think Killzone has has a much more interesting story and setting than Halo, but unfortunately it can't compete with it in terms of gameplay. I would like to see this game obliterate Halo just so they have some competition to make it even better (never a bad thing right?) but Killzone has some work ahead of it and it could use some good advertizing too. Like Forza "ZOMG BETTER THAN GRAND TURISMO 4!!!11!11eleventy!!!"*
* not an actual quote. I think that quote "Forza better than GT4" came from EGM...
rdj75 @ Feb 8th 2007 9:14PM
@13
Well the orginal forza got an average score of 93% while GT4 got an average score of 89.1%.
blamecanada @ Feb 8th 2007 9:16PM
@13, the difference between Forza and GT was that Forza actually turned out to be good. It is a different situation though, because w/ racing simulators there isn't much creativity that influence the fun factor like in an FPS.
NintendoFanbot @ Feb 8th 2007 9:19PM
"I would like to see this game obliterate Halo just so they have some competition to make it even better."
How come no one ever talks about games like TimeSplitters? You know, by the guys that made GoldenEye (the GOOD N64 one)?
And why do we have to obliterate something to 'establish competition'?

So, umm, a rumor started from OUTSIDE of Sony stated Sony would combat Halo 3 with finally unveiling Killzone 2. This was complete rumor bullshit that the internet grabbed and ran with because of the "arrogance" of Sony doing something like this.
But then... This rumor gets squashed by Sony and suddenly, we are all laughing at Sony for failing to deliver on a promise never made and the sheer absurdity that they actually planned to have Killzone 2 combat Halo 3 directly.
Is it just me, or is the entire Xbox 360 fanboy army completely devoid of any fucking sense in the world. This statement never came from Sony. Sony shot down the rumor. And you guys are still acting like Sony was the one to suggest such a thing.
Here's the next rumor for you fucking idiots to grab and laugh when it doesn't come true. Remember, you heard it here first.
Sony signs exclusive deal with Square Enix to do completely 3D remakes of Final Fantasy I-X2 as a huge compilation. All the games will fun in realtime and look 15 times better than Advent Children. Phil Harrison has stated, "It's now official. Xbots can lap the sweat from my sack if they ever want to play Final Fantasy again."
oldschoolgamer @ Feb 8th 2007 9:55PM
I'm sorry to those who still want Sony to win out this next-generation. It's going to be over for them by the time this year is up. ign.com already has an article explaining how trends are really turning bad for Sony and the PS3 in Japan.
As far as the Killzone story is concerned, clearly this game must not look anywhere near the target videos that were shown 2 years ago, despite what Mr. Harrison said awhile back about killzone exceeding it in some areas. Let this be a lesson to you kiddies. 2 lessons actually.
Lesson 1: Don't market something before it's time.
and
Lesson 2: You only get 1 chance to make a first impression.
sony had a chance last year and they blew it. But they will get what they wanted as far as the next-gen dvd race is concerned. Blue ray will no doubt be the dominant format over hddvd. Too bad that the average consumer still won't care enough about that to buy a ps3.
oldschoolgamer @ Feb 8th 2007 9:55PM
To 17.
The profanity really makes it hard to listen to your arguments or take them seriously. You come across like an immature adolescent. Ease up before you have a heart attack. And here's a rumor for you...During the high profile holiday season of 2006 the release of the newest next-generation version of the playstation which has sold more than 200 million units and counting around the world has been shipped out to the number of multiple thousands of units that are presently sitting on shelves collecting dust. Oh wait! This isn't a rumor. It's a fact. And I believe Joystiq.com just reported that Square enix is making an upcoming mmo game for the 360. So maybe you spoke too hastily. Oh, and don't bother using another profane remark in response to this message. I have too many other things to do to have time for a urination contest with people on a web site. So I'm not going to have time to read it. I have a life.
3cubedminus3squared @ Feb 8th 2007 10:06PM
You know sheppy, you could of just said you were sleeping with Sony execs. it would of been shorter and got the message out more clearly.
Martez @ Feb 8th 2007 10:11PM
I guess I was the only one who liked Killzone 1. It had tons of problems and was rushed, but I loved the setting and design, and the story has a lot of potential if Sony/Guerrilla took their time and did it right. If Killzone was more polished and had vehicles, it could've easily competed with Halo. I've heard many good things about the PSP Killzone as well, which leads me to believe Sony's handling the franchise a little better. While I'm disappointed that Sony won't be showing this title off anytime soon, I'm looking forward to it -- even though it'll look nothing like the trailer.
I say let them take their time with it. Sony's not doing so well, but it seems ridiculous that they aren't rushing this title and they still get mocked.
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 8th 2007 10:35PM
Daikatana had a lot of potential, too, Martez.

Yeah shepy, stop your swearing and behave like a good little boy... :S No dude, you're spot on, albeit inadvertently. It's isn't '360 fanboys' who are to blame specifically, but the entire culture of fanboyism and brand loyalty - it's ludicrous but also necessarily a product of late-stage capitalism. You're smart dude - now put it to use and stop schilling for abstract corporate entities.
adam @ Feb 8th 2007 11:06PM
Of course sony would never come out and say that Killzone will be the Halo-killer. That would just admit that MS has a better product than them. It was the sony fans that dubbed Killzone the "Halo-Killer". Attempting to hitch their wagon to Bungie's star. It backfired.
Pulled from wikipedia
Halo was a huge success, and was the best-selling Xbox game at the time, which led to PlayStation fans to dub Killzone the "Halo Killer"

this year at E3 (or whatever it's called now) SCEA shows a new trailer for Killzone 2 that has graphics not even half as good as the amazing, but fake ones we originally saw. Still looks good...but not much better than Resistance. Sony fans are still amazed though. Microsoft unveils a ton of Halo 3 game footage, and there is a walk-through presentation demo showing off the games new features. Release dates for the two games will be within 1 month of each other, and the next 9 months will be non-stop rumors and chatter about each title. XBOX fans will argue with Sony fans and vice-versa, much like the verbal battles they fought this year when Gears and Resistance were released, the games will come out and Halo 3 will be sweet, but Killzone will be good, but not great...and ya know what? Sony won't give two shits. Why? Because all along their primary objective was to merely create, and generate hype for a game with the sole purpose of competing with Halo 3 from a marketing standpoint. It will work to. Just think of all those people next year that debate back and forth whether or not they should buy a PS3 for Killzone or a 360 for Halo 3.
I myself will get so tired of discussing the matter with "chatty" customers at EB for months on end that I will purchase a pair of needle-nose pliers and yank my eyes out of their fucking sockets...I can't wait...
Or it could be the complete opposite...who the fuck knows right? Let's argue about it...What say you? That would TOTALLY be something productive towards the discussion right?
sheppy @ Feb 8th 2007 11:42PM
You know, I can understand a laugh with this games MIA status. It's quickly turning into another Duke Nukem Forever (Who knew they would announce the dev time in the title.. har har) or Prey. Eventually, Killzone may release. It could turn out to be something like God Of War. Constantly delayed, rarely showed, all the sudden, comes back out of nowhere and suprises everyone. Personally, I don't care for shooters except for rare exceptions (Timesplitters, Resistance, Unreal Tournament) so whether or not Killzone 2 (although I could have sworn it is being referred to on Guerilla's own site as Killzone 3... leaving Killzone Liberation, a title which picks up directly after the first Killzone, to be the second title in the series but it's been since the Liberation playthrough that I've payed attention to this) appeals to me is truly up in air. And yes, I played through the original Killzone but mainly just to see if it could possibly break the PS3s framerate and because it was sitting on a shelf for sooooo long. I definately won't play the original again, that's for certain.
Regardless, the amusing factor to me is this entire debacle is based upon a rumor. Sonys big crime here is.... shooting down a rumor? Damn, I'm sorry. I can't honestly see the crime Sony commited. Killzone 2 is in excessively deep development (possibly for a long time like God Of War) and Sony never made any comments on when we'll see it. Rumor gains steam and it's like Sony is to be held responsible for the rumor.
And Oldschoolgamer. I'll keep this message curse free since I wasn't aware I was going to have to deal with someone who still refers to certain words as "naughty." It's obvious that you don't even have a basic understanding of reading comprehension (darn, wherever is that link Moonfire likes to drag around... *sigh*) lest one would instantly recognize the Final Fantasy rumor I started was specifically stated to be proven false. Think, man. They just remade FFIII for DS for $40. What makes you think they'll completely remake 11 games for $60? Likewise, do you even investigate the links in these articles placed here or is a headline more than enough to satisfy the requirements as an "arguement backer."
SquareEnix has stated, time and time again, that they don't want a single platform to become a dominating force (and yet they'll throw FFXII:Mystic Quest and DQIX on the DS but I digress). While, yes, PS3 is getting FFXIII, 360 has Project Silpheed (darn Microsoft's region coding).
So to say a company would place their next MMO project on a console with a proven online fanbase is kinda like me saying "today... the sun shall rise, and provide light to the planets surface." It may, it may not come to PS3. All I know for certain, is of the three announced MMOs in development from SE, the cross platform one has been cancelled, the 360/PC one seems on track, and the PS3 one is still mysteriously listed as MMORPG Project on most online resources. Doesn't matter to me, regardless. Because FFXI was boooring. Seriously. I had more fun crafting and selling items in the AH then I did their actual game. And my account got banned just because I managed to amass close to 7 million Gil as a lv23 Fighter. Apparently I was hgoldfarming or something despite the fact that I just kept gaining money much faster than I could spent it (I mean, seriously. I was lv23. Anything expensive I could buy, I can't use. Most of my income went into materials which in turn made more income).
samfish @ Feb 8th 2007 11:50PM
hahaha! I just hope that Sony decides to put on a special PS3 show, with Killzone 2 as the star attraction.
...and then I'm going to laugh heartily when the press comes back and says it sucks as much as the original.
bootsielon @ Feb 8th 2007 11:52PM
Hey everyone!:
Let's buy halo 3! It'll have the same storyline as every other FPS unlike Killzone and Resistance which are crap for trying something new! More games marketed for the mainstream! No original bullshit gameplay, much less fun like Goldeneye! HOW EXCITING!
Sincerely,
Xbox 360 fanboy
P.S.: I'm not an idiot.
rfom @ Feb 9th 2007 1:45AM
Halo is God for 10% of gamers - and irrelevant for the rest. 5 years ago it took some good PC features and multiplayer to consoles (but still average by PC standards) when the PS had NIL good shooters. But now PS3 does not need a "halo killer" it just needs a few good shooters –which it has - R:FOM, Killzone, SOCOM 4, and the odd non-exclusive. But the harsh fact is - after 6 years XBOX has just Halo clones, a GT copy (Forza) and a couple of GTA clones. That’s why 360 fans are begging and pleading for PS3 games to be non-exclusive. Where is the FF/KH-killer, MGS-killer, Lair/Warhawk-killer, Tekken/VF5 (still delayed on 360)-killer, Ratchet Clank/Jak-killer, DMC/Heavenly-killer, Motorstorm-killer?
apoc06 @ Feb 9th 2007 2:30AM
"Personally I think Killzone has has a much more interesting story and setting than Halo, but unfortunately it can't compete with it in terms of gameplay."
ditto. i think the original killzone was rushed; and could very easily have been better than halo2 [single player at least]. killzone seemed like it had zero quality testing, which was a shame. it had an interesting art style [down to the menus], a wide variety of interesting weapon ideas [Laser Designator? Hammer of Dawn? hmmmm...], interesting characters, an actual plot/ story, actual character development, decent acting [ignoring the AI-controlled voices], natural language [not the forced cursing/ posturing of gears of war].
if they tuned the graphics engine, balanced the weapons better, fixed the online play and charged a greatest hits price, i would buy the original as a HD ps3 re-release. it was made while guerilla was a small third party company with no "real" money. since then, they got eaten up by sony and have the money and the luxury of time.
where did killzone-ps3 go? its obvious. guerrilla probably didnt even start /really/ working on killzone-ps3 until killzone liberation was completed back in sept-oct. expect something around summer.
if they take their time to do it right, i predict people will eat the title up; even if it doesnt reflect the visuals of the original trailer. gears of war "borrowed" alot from the first killzone, and the two titles are probably alot more alike than anyone wants to admit.
i may not fully trust the trailer for the game, but i trust the dev house. guerrilla knows what a good game is, this time they have the time and money to make that game without cutting corners.
Jake @ Feb 9th 2007 9:01AM
Sheppy,
I had to do a double take and less than half of the people making fun of this even mentioned Sony. Why this game has your panties bunned up to the point you have to call every "Xbot" a tard is beyond me.
But, I will do you a favor and tell you why this topic gets so much heat. The original Killzone2 trailer was CGI and strategically released saying "hey, this is what the PS3 can do" to confuse potential 360 buyers. People who did get a 360 had to endure quite a bit of "you shoulda waited for the real system-next gen hasn't started-LOUD NOISES" crap for some time. Now, when these old PS3 lies, from Sony or not, are finally coming to the surface, xbots are getting their jabs in big time. It is that simple.
No, Sony never called K2 a Halo Killer. But they are far from innocent in this whole overhyped games/graphics debacle.
But I am with you in being a bit confused how the sequel to a solid PSP, less than average PS2 game franchise has become a killer to the (second)best selling shooter in console history.
And people need to stop saying Halo was so bad and had such a terrible story, then comparing it to like Killzone and Resistance. God, give it up. I thought Halo's story is/was very good, especially for a shooter. And to say either of those games is better is just ridiculous unless you are an arrogant ass and put your opinion high above those of the majority.
You can only call it over-rated now because so many of its mechanics have been stolen and mainstreamed. Too soon you forget that the original Halo has a score average of 97% and Halo2 has a 95% at Metacritic. They were both ranked way higher than any gamecube or PS2 shooter and sold much more as well. The thing is a friken monster, like it or not. Christ, give it up. I'm not even a real Halo fan but it is so pathetic seeing people call it a terrible game I feel the need to defend it and try to save you further embarrassment.
The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy are terribly over-rated franchises. Zelda is sooo easy and FF is just rehashed shit with shinier coats and different stories that are still always fundamentally the same. See how stupid that sounds to hear someone else say it. And no, I don't think the Halo franchise is anywhere near either of those two, I just was making an extreme example of what I feel Nintendo and Sony's best franchises are.

you people are weak... so fucking weak. who cares if ps3 or xbox has better titles! if you like the games for one and you have the other, just buy the other console and shut up about it. yea $600 or $400 is a lot of money but if someone wants it bad enough its not that bad.
xbox people: your console has been out for a year. OF COURSE THERE ARE BETTER TITLES OUT FOR IT RIGHT NOW! believe me there will be competetion in the future, sony (for the most part) are not that stupid.
PS3 people: WHO CARES IF THE XBOX HAS SOME GOOD TITLES! ms has tons of money and it was bound to happen, either get over the jealousy of wanting to play and buy one (or if you truly dont like it just shut up about it). People will like different things, who cares if someone likes something that you dont!
Wii people: didn't you miss the bus to school, what are you doing reading this??? j/k. Most people dont really bitch about the wii, so im cool with most of you.
I own all three systems, i am happy with all three in their own ways and i will buy games for all three in the future.
oh ya and halo doesn't suck. And no im not buying the helmet edition.
Phil @ Feb 9th 2007 9:52AM
This title became a triple AAA title and proclaimed "Halo-Killer" when Sony said so.
Seriously, I think Sony was the one hyping this game and saying the cinematic video shown at E3 was actual gameplay. I am sure once the developer heard that, they were like, "Son of a Bitch, f*cking Sony!".
I hate Sony! But I can't wait to see what this game can do....that's funny how that works, huh. Look forward to the game but HATE the system it is designed for.
You see, people start to hate a company that constantly lies to consumers and speaks as if they were the developer of all games on their console. Really, I hate Sony....and Sheppy for being such a blind, dumb fanboi.

Blue Dragon, Splinter Cell (ok, it only appeals to adults, but still), Lair sucks, Warhawk doesn't exist, Dead or Alive, Wii has better mascot games, huh?, Motorstorm sucks (really, GT4 has better graphics and realism).
There was a time when all the Sony games were Nintendo knock-offs and everyone made fun of them. What 360 really needs are Colossus/Okami style games, Strategy RPGs and maybe a mascot game (XBLA perhaps).
While we're here, I looove my ps2. But there's no way I'm buying a $600 console for another boring GT sequel and Spiderman and FF with realtime combat.

Killzone as a game had its flaws, it was an ambitious game that was sadly rushed, and ended up with quite a few bugs.
It however was not a terrible game, both the setting and the story where fun to play through and you actually felt apart of the world.
Hopefully Killzone will fix all the things that where wrong and follow on from Liberation which was a fun PSP game.
