Halo 3 Beta invitation confirms Crackdown disc needed
If you were planning on tossing Microsoft's upcoming supercop sim shortly after using the included Halo 3 Beta key, you'd best restrain your throwing arm. Shizzle Games has posted an image of Crackdown's included invite card -- it clearly lays out that the Halo 3 Beta code is both downloaded and launched via the game's main menu. With no dashboard option, you'll have to keep your Crackdown disc for as long as you want to take part in Bungie's practice run.Luckily, Crackdown's recent Xbox Live demo has greatly weakened the game's early reputation for being Master Chief's ball-and-chain. See the full invite card after the break.

I wonder if this dealio will prevent Crackdown from suffering the original ZOEs fate...
At least, until the beta is over.
JJC @ Feb 9th 2007 10:01AM
crackdown is a really fun game (atleast the demo is). Im glad the beta isnt out the same day as the game because i would be torn on what to play. by the time the beta comes out, ill probably be bored or tired of crackdown, so it will be a nice addition to an already solid game.
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 9th 2007 10:17AM
To the people who just rented Crackdown on Gamefly:
HAW HAW!
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 9th 2007 10:18AM
"ill probably be bored or tired of crackdown, so it will be a nice addition to an already solid game."
Hello, let's go into the dictionary, huh?
Beta
A beta version or beta release usually represents the first version of a computer program that implements all features in the initial requirements analysis. It is likely to be useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but unstable and not yet ready for release. Some developers refer to this stage as a preview, as a technical preview (TP) or as an early access.
Grunge @ Feb 9th 2007 10:29AM
"Hello, let's go into the dictionary, huh?"
Hello, nice addition doesn't mean what you think it means?
polly @ Feb 9th 2007 10:29AM
Uhm, I think he meant the Halo3 beta will be a nice addition to an already solid Crackdown game.
Tom @ Feb 9th 2007 10:33AM
i thought the beta was included in all copies of crack down? Not "Specially Marked" ones like it says there...
Jake @ Feb 9th 2007 10:34AM
@3
1) Renting Crackdown on Gamefly doesn't exactly cost you if you are paying for Gamefly anyways. Don't know where their misfortune is, because they could still cancel the rental anyways.
2) This has nothing to do with Gamefly as you could keep the physical disc as long as you want. But, since GF rentals don't come with the case, everyone knows you wouldn't be able to get the Beta with this. You should be Haw-Haw-ing the people who preordered to get the code and sell it back used.
3) While the game certainly isn't AAA, a lot of people, myself included, really enjoyed the demo and would be getting it anyways. I think the Halo Beta is on it because it has to be on a MS published game and this one fits the audience and time-frame for a Halo Beta nicely.
So, the short answer is you can't Haw Haw the Gamefliers.
JJC @ Feb 9th 2007 10:46AM
Jonah --> I meant that instead of having to pay $60 for one solid game, i will be paying $60 for a solid game and basically a demo of a new game that i cant wait for. So i dont really know what wavelength you are thinking on but we are obviously not thinking the same. Did this confuse anyone else, or is this an isolated case of moronicness?
SynikaL @ Feb 9th 2007 10:58AM
^It was pretty isolated before you chose to make up that awful word to describe his unfounded alacrity.

Shmil @ Feb 9th 2007 10:56AM
JJC
i understood what you were trying to say, Jonah putting the definition of beta into your post did nothing but tell people the definition of beta, if you're trying to start a debate you should at least state what you're trying to argue
JJC @ Feb 9th 2007 11:14AM
I believe that Jonah was trying to say that I somehow didn't understand what a beta is. By including a definition and a sentence beginning with 'Hello' (not as in a greeting but hello are you stupid) i assumed that jonah was making a unfounded stab at my post. thus the clarification, and the use of the word 'moronicness'.
Jay @ Feb 9th 2007 11:19AM
Jonah you're an idiot.
JD3 @ Feb 9th 2007 11:33AM
Why the hell does everyone on this website talk like they are in a Kevin Smith Movie. Speaking in complicated terms and using big words does not enhance your argument it just makes you sound like a fool flipping through the thesaurus. i.e. JJC and the majority of people who comment.
Newsflash you can make a solid argument using words like dumb, good, and bad. We will all still get your point.
And yes JJC I understand what you were trying to say and I did take Grunge's comment as being a smartass.
Matt @ Feb 9th 2007 11:38AM
Jonah,
I would be very surprised if the Halo 3 beta is a true beta in the literal sense of the word. Given the large audience it will be released to it's likely that Bungie will have most of the bugs already worked out of the game. They may use the data to tweak some of the weapons and balance the game a bit, but this is more likely for the purposes of building hype than it is to collect data about bugs in the game.
Shmil @ Feb 9th 2007 11:42AM
JD3 maybe some people like using larger words because we know what they mean. If the vernacular of these posts are too complex for you to comprehend, perhaps you should read a book and amplify your vocabulary. You are merely griping over a row that should not be bleated about.
AirIntake @ Feb 9th 2007 11:43AM
I think I'll just wait until the full game is released. I'm sure there will be plenty of other good games to keep me busy until then.
AirIntake @ Feb 9th 2007 11:44AM
Haha, JD3!
Do you not understand the words that are coming out of this thread? That's too bad I guess!
sheppy @ Feb 9th 2007 11:51AM
i dunt uderztan y evryoon haz tu taak al purty lik. wese nut tu dum ta uderztan ur poss. illeatist basurds!
JD3 @ Feb 9th 2007 12:05PM
No, it's not that I don't understand the big words, the problem is that people use the big words randomly and sometimes incoherently. Just like you Shmil, thank you for proving my point in my previous post. Perhaps you should take the time to understand the words of your VOCABULARY, not vernacular. Vernacular refers to the characterstics of a native language, such as slang or lingo.
This was what I was refering to, it's not that I don' like the use of larger words nor that I don't use them myself. It's the use of complex terms by people ignorant of their meaning and proper usage who just spout out random phrases of intelligent sounding words to prove their point. That was what I was referring to.
Typical Stupid Fucking American @ Feb 9th 2007 12:17PM
Down with big words! Up with Ford Trucks and American Flags!
The ZeroCorpse @ Feb 9th 2007 1:00PM
I wish they hadn't done this. Now it will be hard for those of us waiting for Crackdown since it was announced to find one, because all the Halo fanboys will buy it off the shelves.
Cross promotions like this bug me.
ZildjianKX @ Feb 9th 2007 12:24PM
@Jake,
Who says you need the case? The image above says no code needed.
sheppy @ Feb 9th 2007 12:24PM
"Gollllie, Mr. Taggert. You talk prettier than a five dollar whore."
Jake @ Feb 9th 2007 12:27PM
Really? So I can get a gamefly rental of it and hop on the Halo Beta for the hell of it? Cool if it is true. *Goes to change Gamefly Que*
Intentless @ Feb 9th 2007 12:49PM
You don't need the case but you need the game itself. So theoretically you can play the Beta on the Gamefly version because you only need the disk. However has Gamefly stated which version of Crackdown you would be getting?
Austin @ Feb 9th 2007 12:51PM
I'm sorry but i think i'm in the wrong place. Is this where we leave comments about halo3's beta and crackdown?
Intentless @ Feb 9th 2007 1:05PM
The reason I'm not liking the public beta is simple. Check cntrlalt-delete his latest strip says it all..........
Grunge @ Feb 9th 2007 1:08PM
"I did take Grunge's comment as being a smartass."
Smartass? Me?
JJC @ Feb 9th 2007 1:36PM
Why is it terrible to use a vast array of vocabulary words to express my feelings and inner emotions? :0) (no i dont talk like that). Maybe its just a little slip from all of the english papers i've written throughout my life. I dont see how this would piss you off, but I do find the reference to Kevin Smith funny, considering that his movies (for which i believe he writes the scripts for) are laced with 'slang' and vulgar language. Not knocking Kevin Smith I love basically all of his movies.
Matt @ Feb 9th 2007 7:55PM
I'm surprised that no one has thought of the following scenario:
Since you need the copy of Crackdown with the Halo 3 invite on the disc, all the xbox360 pirates out there could just distribute the Halo 3 edition of Crackdown and since there are no codes involved there would be no problem in a bunch of people getting the game without ever "getting the game."
I have a feeling that the beta is going to be shut down pretty quick because of this particular reason.
Anonymous @ Feb 9th 2007 1:41PM
Is crackdown a decent game? Sure probably. Is it worth 60 dollars? Helllllllllllllllllllll no. The reason that the halo 3 beta promotion is going on, is because they knew Crackdown would just be another game that you rent, and not one that is worth spending 60 dollars on. But add in the beta key and a TON of extra people will buy the game whether they like the game or not.
For instance, I was bored after about half an hour on the crackdown demo, but if I don't get in through the rule of 3 program (signed up, wish me luck) I will surely buy Crackdown. The Halo 3 beta is worth 60 dollars to me. Sure it's silly, since I've been beta testing for free for...over 10 years now, but if that is what it takes...and MSoft knows it.
nate @ Feb 9th 2007 2:02PM
the reason you found it boring was probably because you only played for 30 min....it's true fun comes you u get all ur stats to level 3 and 4...but anyways...pretty sure MS says it comes with every initial shipped copy which would cover all reserves and more I'm sure
Quando @ Feb 9th 2007 2:08PM
I took a business writing course just to shore up my mad skillz to be able henceforth to eloquently discourse on the vagaries of interactive software entertainment on this fine electronic publication. I demur from any request to degrade the sophistication of tone and general level of civilized parlance that takes precedence on these pages
and shit.
Intentless @ Feb 9th 2007 2:11PM
Inconceivable! Anyway nice one Quando!
Jay @ Feb 9th 2007 2:20PM

Bob @ Feb 9th 2007 2:44PM
sheppy, Nice Blazing Saddles reference but you messed up the quote!
It's: "God darnit, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore."
Taggert is the one that said it.
Larry @ Feb 9th 2007 3:18PM
I just pre-ordered 'CRACKDOWN' on Amazon.com mainly for CRACKDOWN itself. I thoroughly enjoyed the demo and plan on thoroughly enjoying the game. The HALO 3 Demo is a nice pack-in.
JD3 @ Feb 9th 2007 3:34PM
JJC, I'm not pissed off at all, I was just making a sidebar comment about a lot of comments I read when I come here. Kevin Smith movies aren't bad, it's just the dialogue in those movies are so obviously overdone to the point that Smith was force-feeding conversations that seemed like an updated Skakespeare comedy. Mallrats is a perfect example of what my comment was about. 2 burnouts whose vocabulary sounded like something a Harvard professor would be using.
I wasn't meaning to jab at anyone I was just making an observation. As for the game itself, Crackdown does sound like a great idea, but many are too quick to shoot it down as a GTA clone. It's 2007 what game isn't a clone or what new enterprise doesn't spawn a series of clones. That's the new capitalism, copy your competitors. That's why each summer we get two Asteroid, Volcano, someother plot films.
Intentless @ Feb 9th 2007 3:37PM
In respect to Mr. Smith I would have to say that is part of the design of Jay and Silent Bob in general... Supposedly Jay isn't acting so much as being himself and supposedly he is very much in real life like he is in the movies... Either way. Jay as a Character is an intellectual stoner... Also remember... Its a movie and it isn't necessarily real...
Mr Khan @ Feb 9th 2007 4:17PM
You guys seem to have too high of standards for games, $60 for a satisfying sandbox-style freeroaming action title?
IF i had a 360, i'd go for it (Beta would only sweeten the deal)
(but then again, maybe if i had more than just 1 console and 1 handheld, i would have to make harder choices more often, oh well)
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 9th 2007 5:11PM
Crackdown is worth $60. It IS a AAA title - even if the perception isn't that yet. But every. single. person. who has played the full featured version has come away wanting MORE MORE MORE!
It's also one of the most replayable single-player game right now, too.
It's Grand Theft Mario - a freeform platform jumper/shooter.
Oh, and co-op is mega-addictive. CrackCocaineDown.
Whilst you base your opinion on NOTHING, I'm basing it on people I trust (ie. Major Nelson, Gamespy, IGN, 1UP, etc).
"I would be very surprised if the Halo 3 beta is a true beta in the literal sense of the word."
I think it's a stress test, myself, but they'll be looking at weapon balance writ large, to see what's over- and underpowered.
fli @ Feb 9th 2007 11:22PM
wow i learned alot while reading your comments, you ppl got me scared to post her cuz u might criticize my language (did i spell it right..that c word did i spell it right?)
xptoast @ Feb 28th 2007 10:31PM
Waiting for the gear up for HALO 3 beta xptoast home productions is creating a full length halo movie for the fans. It will be released on google video and as many other outlets as possible. Check out myspace.com/halothemovies for a sneak peak video. That site will have updates as soon as anything is done or changed or found out. Oh yea! I dont know if I like the crackdown game cuase its all comic book looking and confusing and that guy talks all the time. Got it for the beta anyhow. Cant wait.
