I know this kind of goes against my last comment on not getting down on someone's opinion, but after doing some stuff around the house and getting back to this article and comments, I kind of laughed at one's response.

@95 - "Same goes for any of the 3d games on the DS. The graphics just suck too hard for the game to be playable. It distracts me, I stop being engrossed in the game, and it ruins it"

That statment goes pretty far off. This just shows how unknowledgable you are about the DS. I will admit, I traded in my DS Phat for a PSP. Unfortantly, and this is only my opinion, I really disliked the PSP and traded it in for a DS Lite. I thought the games were iffy at first for the DS, but now I think it is one of the best investments I have ever made.

The graphics on the DS aren't horrible at all. Some games might look bad, but what system doesn't have that? To be perfectly honest, the PSP graphics aren't really that great compared to the times, and I don't think the DS lags that far behind at all. To rely soley on graphics for a handheld system, is ridiculous. The art direction in a lot of games also are pretty amazing.

Well i know not everyone will like Zelda, and thats a given, but take a look at these links and understand that your opinions are part of a minascule minority

Legend of Zelda OoT comes 2nd (only to a Mario game)
http://top100.ign.com/2005/001-010.html

again it comes second (only to a Mario game)
http://www.filibustercartoons.com/games.htm
quote-

"Assuming these lists represent voices of authority in the gaming community, we can easily make a cumulative list averaging out the most universally popular games. I'm not smart enough to do mathematical averages of rank, but based on sheer popularity (as defined by appearing on 14 or more lists, ie: at least 50%), the top five games of all time seem to be:

1 Super Mario 64 (18 out of 27 lists) 66%
2 Tetris (appears on 17 out of the 27) 62%
2 Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (17 out of 27) 62%
3 Street Fighter II (14 out of 27) 51%
3 Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (14 out of 27) 51%

As you can see, it's very close. Every time I update this list with a new chart number the top five fluctuates."

gamespot considered it #1 with 4 other games

and then the clincher -

To be honest i loved Legend of Zelda TP, but not as much as i loved Zelda OoT. To those that think Zelda franchise is crap and anyone who buys it is stupid, make no mistake, the majority of gamers think Zelda is the best game ever so deal with it.

I REALLY dont get why people whine and bitch about the graphics on the wii or the DS. Remember the original Playstation? Graphics were worse than the DS, but it was still awesome.

Technology advances and we have access to greater graphics, true, but really, do dont always need to. Great things can be accomplished with simple visuals. Wii sports keeps coming up in this discussion. You rarely even pay attention to the graphics in wii sports because you're concentrating more on your own movements.

And in relation to zelda, i loved it, big fan of the TP. Moreso than LTTP. I simply found the story to be more engaging, the characters more fleshed out.

Oh, and complete agreement on Midna being the best character in any zelda game. She was AWESOME. Specially the ending. (only just finished it a couple of days ago).

Anyways, now i've started on WW, but i think i'll put that in hiatus on 22 Feb when FFXII comes out here in Aus.

How quickly we forget that back in the day every fucking game had jaggies EVERYWHERE, and back then we didn't care, now when a game has jaggies everyone says that it detracts from the experience. Have we become spoiled?

We didn't care because we didn't know any better, just like no one cared before the 1950s that there weren't any computers.

We know better, we have the capability, why not use it?

Anyway, I've played about 50 DS games and about 40 PSP games, and a few PSX games on the PSP.

I think the DS->PSX comparison is apt, although I think the PSX had a slight advantage over the DS. Both still suck, though, and seeing a PSX game on the PSP reminds you how far things have come.

And finally, using metacritic scores to say "people who don't like X are in the small minority" is silly. All it says is that "reviews critical of X that metacritic tracks are in a small minority".

It doesn't say anything about the popularity of the game as a whole. That's what the attach rate and resale rate tell you. Of course, the problem with the attach rate is that a lot of people were forced into bundles, so you don't know whether a purchase is an actual endorsement of the franchise.

In short, you won't know how popular Zelda is until you do a random phone poll and ask people "Do you like Nintendo's Zelda games?" and have 88% say "What? What's Zelda? Is that like Mario?"

Anyway. Zelda still sucks.

You think Zelda sucks.

But phrasing it the way you did, why are you surprised that you're getting negative responses?

On the internet, especially?

My answer is: "(C): The graphics and sound are substandard for a last generation game, and the only special thing about the Wii, the controls, were horribly tacked on at the last minute."

I have a Wii and don't want Zelda. And don't tell me I must have not played it. I have. Screw you Joystiq, just 'cause you hate Sony and love Nintendo and every little thing they do is perfect in your eyes, doesn't mean I feel the same.

Joystiq doesn't hate Sony. Sony has just been hitting a bunch of snags as of late, while Nintendo has been getting praise from people who have never even played a video game.

Sony, aside from a few modest execs, has been very arrogant on how they've been handling things and Nintendo, as arrogant as they used to be, are finally taking things modestly and that's just what people see.

Is Nintendo perfect? No. They're a bunch of blood suckers that have milking money down to an art form.

"Wii mote with batteries? In a few months we'll sell you a new model with a rechargeable one!"
"Buy this game again, again!"
"Slap mario on a sport and they'll buy it."

But their console is a friggin blast to play even with sub par software, and it's dirt cheap in comparison with the other two. This is not bias. It's just an honest observation anybody can make. Joystiq's journalistic integrety would be on the line if they sided with one company (see Vladimir Cole) and held up their middle finger to the rest. They have a PSP fanboy section and a PS3 fanboy section. They got your back.

The motion controls aren't the only thing different in the Wii version. You use motions only to do regular attacks (sword or biting). You also use the IR sensors to aim with the slingshot, boomerang, bow, and clawshot, which is a huge difference. The Wii version has widescreen support, and you can have more items at the ready than in the GameCube version due to the higher number of buttons, so you don't have to pause the game to switch items as often.

"Buy this game again, again!"
"Slap mario on a sport and they'll buy it."

Nintendo isn't making any of them. They even said if one was coming, it wouldn't be from them.

As for the other two, people can't help it if the games are REALLY that fun. :P

Anyways, I understand your Nintendo criticism, and on the other subject while I agree your integrity would be on the line for being a fan of one company, but expressing oneself in the fashion of Vlad would only gain a negative rep.

@ 123

It's like Sony is doing bad, but here's whats good about them. And Yeah, Nintendo's doing great, but they're not exactly saints. I'm just trying to point out both sides of the argument and defend joystiq from flack they don't deserve (except Vlad. He fishes for attention).

And the remotes Nintendo announced won't be made by nintendo? That's odd. I suppose it's easier for them to let other people make stuff then screw up their production line.

And I apply to all the categories myself. Not hating on people. I got my mario kart fix like everyone else two weeks ago. I own 3 copies of Oot and I'll probably end up buying it on the VC just so I don't have to load a disc when I want to play it. Yeah, I'm that lazy.

And while people are talking Wii and GCN versions, I'd recommend trying them both before buying.

The wii controls are great with projectiles, but the sword play is delayed (loads of fun fighting ganon with that) and there is no control of the camera at all. The gamecube verson has the camera control Wind Waker had, but loses the immersion of sword swinging and ease of shootin arrows. Even trade offs but you'll have to figure out which you want to trade and what to keep.

New Wii owners are saving a few pennies by buying up used copies of Twilight Princess as earlier adopters complete and return the game.
