While I think that all of that is a load of bull (hey, what about that poor mother who died from water poisoning in that stupid contest, huh?), is it just me, or does she look like Reggie if you SQUINT REALLY HARD? Seriously.

Wow, the number of pissed off PS3 owners is growing exponentially. Why does anyone care what Perrin Kaplan says? She's a Nintendo exec, she is going to spin things in Nintendo's favor.

Contrast that with Jack Tretton from Sony who simply *lied.* And not just a lie but an insane, senseless, easily-debunked lie.

The angry, confused so-called hard core gamer is getting more and more bent out of shape by Nintendo's trouncing of Sony in every market and in both consoles and hand-helds. They don't understand it and will never understand it. Casual gamers, like myself, do not have hours and hours to spend on gaming. I have a few minutes, maybe as much as a couple hours on a Saturday, to play games with my son or by myself.

The Wii offers lots of great games that allow my son and I to pick up and play with little or no intense strategy and at *any* time. LIke an earlier poster said...with Wario Ware, Wii Sports, Zelda and Rayman we have more gaming than we can realisitically get to already.

Now folks who spend three and four hours a day (and more) gaming, sure go buy a 360 but make no mistake, the Wii is going to clean everyone else's clock this time around.

Of course that should be obvious already.

Matthew house, you dont seem to realize, that there's a market for both.

While i think its great for NIntendo to cater to that market as well (The casual, few minutes a day gamer, as you put it) there's also another market out there, the gamer that games more than just a few minutes a day with their kids.

Now dont get me wrong, i love nintendo, i've always had a nintendo system. But as someone who loves to game, i cant live with just what nintendo has offered the last few generations. Sometimes i like a good RPG (FFXII or Rogue Galaxy), or a great action game (God of War, Lost planet) or even a good FPS every now and again (Gears of War, Resistance) and frankly at the moment, i cant do any of that on the Wii.

Now dont get me wrong, the Wii is great when i have friends over, wanna have some fun with my fiancee who doesn't game all that much and so on. Its a GREAT GRRREAT! party system, but outside of that it doesn't get much playtime at the moment.

I do hope however Nintendo does great this generation, more power to them.

But you have to remember, a man cant live on bread alone. Sometimes people want to play more than just party games and right now, thats really all that the Wii offers up over its competition.

What about all the expensive HD and normal tv's the Wii has smashed with the new controller and crappy strap ?

"Weird Japanese guys that come to your doorstep offering new console that live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones....much less the controller."

It drives me nuts that people make statements about how there are so many great Wii games out. Sorry, I have most of the games that have or will come out on the VC, on the original console, with the original controller. The Wii is a great $250 mini-game machine. After Zelda, mine hasn't been touched. Wii sports was fun for all of 10 hours. I won't pay $50 for any game that is all mini-games.

People also say "What about Rayman, Marvel, Madden,..." Rayman on my PC with an xbox 360 controller, Marvel and Madden on my 360, both superior versions.

The last arguement is what good games have come out in the last month for the PS3 or Xbox 360. I don't have a PS3 yet, but I got Lost Planet for the 360, and its pretty good. Not to mention, the Xbox 360 gets crackdown in about a week.

I think people need to wake up and start holding Nintendo to the same standards they hold Sony and Microsoft to. All 3 companies are out for your cash. Get over it and start expecting more.

I understand where you're coming from and Nintendo is delusion if they think this mini game bullshit is going to fly for the duration. Zelda gets love on my Wii especially since I just finished not too long ago and want to play it again. Rayman and WarioWare is a pass simply because it's not what I want to play when I get a new console. Those games are a good companion to the Zeldas, Metroids, and such but I walk into EB looking for sometime to buy for the Wii and it's depressing.
------------------------------------------------

As far as the future goes...I'm sorry but the jury is still out as to whether Sonic on Wii is going to be any good. Sega has proven that they can't make a decent game with one of their key mascots, time and again releasing crap Sonic games in succession. That's a pass. Metroid isn't due until June and that's a maybe since Nintendo hasn't said when it's going to release. MArio Galaxy isn't until winter 07 and it's anyone's guess as to when Smash Brothers is going to release.

The point...Nintendo blew it.
Hype and the controller are driving Wii sales because the library isn't there and it won't be there until late 2007 at best.

We have no online play for the foreseeable future, no games worthy of note in the foreseeable future,
We're still being overcharged on VC downloads

What else is there? Really?

I have a PS3 and once VF5 drops in two weeks, I'm not going to give a shit about the Wii. Zelda was great and I had a blast with Wiisports and CoD3 with ExciteTruck sprinkled in, but Nintendo is doing absolutely nothing to keep me playing the Wii. At this point, I would tell anyone that asks me to not buy a Wii until Nintendo gets a clue.

Kaplan says, "Well, we didn't have anyone in line that got shot waiting for our system. So there's one sign of the different approaches between our two companies ..."

What an ignorant statement. She implies it is due to Sony's marketing approach that someone was shot waiting for a PS3. What, did Sony hire a hitman to make it look like people are "killing to get a PS3". Some sick kind of viral marketing.

I mean seriously, that is the stupidest statement I've heard in quite some time. Unbelievable. She seems like such a moron in general, and this proves it.

Well, I guess we will hear Kaz come out and say "hey, at least our product doesn't make people drink water until they die." That would be the equivalent.

Glad Nintendo seems to have thought out their strategy of "one big game at launch, then nothing until Spring." Yeah, I fell for it for a while and bought VC & GC games to keep me busy, but the end result now is I haven't turned the thing on in 2 weeks.

Probably going to sell it (just wish I hadn't bought that Wavebird too...). The Wii absolutely sucks so far in terms of substance, and it was foolish of me to jump in right away.

I'll pay it another visit down the line when the price drops.

I hate Sony's approach to gaming as much as anyone, but it's ignorant and manipulative as hell for this stupid skank to infer that Sony all but pulled the trigger. I see she didn't comment on the CNN story where the reporter bought a Wii and then had to have a police escort out to her car because the fatass nerds in line kept trying to grab it from her and kept screaming threats at her.

Grass isn't always greener on your side, Perrin. Go drink bleach. Take Reggie with you. And then take Kaz Hirai and Peter Moore along with HIM.

I know consoles can't follow the same model of handhelds but, most of these 'min games' concerns are exactly like those of the DS when it was launched.

Learned to have patience then and I'll deal with this now having finished Twilight Princess a few weeks ago. I understand that while this isn't a drought it's made everyone thirsty for more. I have no doubt that a huge flood of games is coming though.

I feel sorry for those that bought a Wii and don't play it. Between the 3 Wiis in my house (mine, plus two roommates'), the Wii gets about 6 hours of play a day. In total we've racked up more than 400 hours on the Wii since launch.

With a friend or two, the Wii is awesome. By yourself, there's still plenty to keep a gamer busy.

Krang, that was another PS3 story. Sorry.

If you resellers can't hold onto your shorts long enough to wait, what 2 months for the next big title (with little ones sprinkled here and there), then you need to get on some adderall or ritalin. Seriously. I don't know of any console that had a substantial library 4 months out from launch. It doesn't happen, its never happened.

Lol, no, not really. While the library IS slowly coming out people have already been enjoying a lot of the content. Zelda, WarioWare, ExciteTruck, Trauma Center, Downhill Jam, even RED STEEL. I know the reviews were lukewarm but I know a lot of people in the offline world that enjoy it.

And not everyone is enjoying everything that has already come out, so I would like to think that there is time to add more games, even if not week-to-week.

I know that not everyone can be satiated by the Wii's current offering, but I sincerely disagree that Nintendo blew anything.

Well, that's good for you I guess. I don't own a 360 and have no plans for ever doing so. Same goes for the PS3. I'm a PC gamer at heart but the Wii has totally hooked me. If you want the best graphics for a multi-port game, obviously you're going to go for something other than the Wii.

As for multi-port games to the PC... even if I owned a 360 I'd no way in hell buy a console port of FEAR or Oblivion when it's superior on my computer.

By the way... why would you play Rayman on your PC? It's a party game...

While I don't agree with all of Ms. Kaplan's comments, I do feel that she has a point. It's like an earlier poster said...Wii lines were full of gamers, PS3 lines were full of re-sellers.

I can also understand where she is coming from about the overloading of the customers. She is basically saying that by spreading these items out over a longer release schedule, everyone has a chance to enjoy them at their own pace and without the feeling that they have TOO MANY choices of NEW things to do and experience. This also, as another poster said, gives Nintendo a way to stay at the top of people's minds, because they are hearing about these new things that are being added at intervals.

Everyone here (reading this site) is in the 'hard-core' group, but not everyone in the world (or even in your own city) is that type of gamer.

Anyway - regarding the drought of games for Wii. I am not sure how everyone here has managed to play through all of the better launch games. I have had my Wii since the 1st of December, and I am still playing Trauma Center and Twilight princess to complete the 1st time. I have not even started NFS: Carbon or Red Steel...but have completed WarioWare to unlock everything.

I don't get to play daily, but even when I do get to play, it's usually only for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours at a time.

So for me, I am not seeing the drought that most people are.

Sony did have a hand in the shooting. Indirect, but they did have a hand. By releasing a hot, new product in small numbers (and publicly announcing fewer and fewer launch units), they all but ensured this type of behavior. A dwindling supply, particularly one being told of ahead of time, builds tension and attracts resellers and overzealous fanboy campers. Resellers and overzealous campers tend to hang out in deserted shopping centers at 3 am. They have lots of cash and the typical overzealous camper and reseller tends to be pacifistic in nature. Combine this with lots of cash, and you have a criminal's wet dream. An easy target, no witnesses, and a large wad of cash.

Had the PS3 launched with 2 million units, there wouldn't be any of this. No need to spend 3 days in line, no need for resellers to bring wads of cash to buy a dozen units. Everyone who wants one got one (and with sales numbers, no one would have gone home unhappy with a full million still sitting on shelves waiting to be purchased).

Also doesn't help that Sony ignored lessons from the PS2 launch, which had the same, exact occurrences for the same, exact reason. Sony is to blame. They botched this thing, overhyped it, and drove up the pre-launch percieved value that attracted criminal elements to the campers.

Plus it didn't help that it ran $600, so it was guaranteed that whoever wanted one had enough money to make the chance worth it. Thugs certainly wouldn't make a huge stink over $250.

Sony's response:

"Well, we didn't have anyone enter a contest that died from water intoxication for our system."

Yeeesh. Not only was that a low blow, it was a dumb one as well. I'd prefer the PR reps to stick with PR some days..."

Those of you that think someone getting shot while waiting in line for a PS3 is Sony's fault have your heads so far up Microsoft and Nintendo's ass you can see daylight when the open their mouths. Crime happens everywhere and is often the result of someone thinking society owes them, you don't deserve it, or some other misguided preception.

This could have easily happened to one of the Wii campers and it wouldn't have been Nintendo's fault either. Nintendo didn't force that poor mother of 3 into the "Hold your wee for Wii" contest that took her life.

As for the profiteers in line for a PS3, since no one here seems to admit to liking the PS3 why do any of you care. BTW, wasn't there a whole bunch of Wii's on ebay too. Oh you poor poor gamers couldn't get a Wii on launch because of those profiteers. Well, you live in a capitalist society, not a socialist one. A Wii, PS3, or Xbox 360 is not guaranteed just because you want one. When the Mazda miata first came on the market, dealers were selling it for $23,000. That's $10,000 more than MSRP. So Sony and the ebayers didn't invent making a profit. There is nothing illegal about making money on consoles, cars or any other non-essential item. Price gouging gas, food or water during natural disasters is illegal and something worth getting work up about.

Kaplan's comments are completely unacceptable from a top executive of any corporation. The negative comments from Moore and company and Sony's execs are no more acceptable. If your product can't stand on its own merits then you need to work on making a better product. Everyone could benefit from more positive leadership in all aspects of their lives. These negative comments from the gaming execs and their legions of fanboys do more harm than the violence in our favorite game. Why? Because they are real world examples.

So talk about why your system is so great and quit telling everyone else their systems sucks. Live and let live.
