DS Daily: Technical difficulties

I have problems with

One dead pixel on upper screen
Diagonals on D-PAd are very difficult to do
In one section of the touchscreen if i press a little harder it makes CLICK

My fiance's white DS Lite has a cracked hinge, but we haven't bothered to send it in for repair since it hasn't affected anything. My black DS Lite is, as far as I can tell, defect free at the moment.

I have one of the first Polar white models and the cracked hinge is unavoidable. I'm curious to as if anyone with that has a Pink or Black DS model or a White model that they purchased after September has a cracked hinge also. The Pink and Black one seem to be better builds.

Havent had a dead pixel yet, but my L button stopped responding for a while until I slapped the DS silly. It works again.

I had one of the first batches of Polar Whites. Needless to say, it broke down on me pretty quickly for a Nintendo product. Stuck L button, unresponsive touchscreen, and the faulty hinge, which even caused the touch screen to "tear" on the right side every time I closed it. It's my fault for voiding the warranty, but at least it gave me an excuse to buy a new sexysleek Onyx Black (which had a single dead pixel, but Nintendo fixed me up).

My first Phat had a whole row of dead pixels in the top screen. I exchanged it, and noticed later that the new one had two little dead pixels in the touchscreen...

I really couldn't be bothered changing it again, so I've lived witg it.

No other issues thus far, although the hinge seems a little wobbly.

My left shoulder button stopped working after a while; I was able to send it in for a replacement pretty painlessly.

I have a cracked hinge in my white ds lite. Ive known about it since around October. I just cant find a good time to send it in for repair. I need to do that soon.

My sound went out on my DSL for two weeks, and then I stuck it in my pocket for three hours of college lectures, without taking it out, and the sound started working again.

Mine has a crack in it, but I don't have a problem with it. I don't look at the crack when I play games, it's on the other side of the handheld.

No problems on mine and my girlfriend's. And both of us have been using our daily imported Enamel Navy Lite since April.

Her's has a small semi-dead pixel (which works but light bleeds through one of the pixel edge) and mine has some dusts between the digitiser and the bottom LCD screen (only apparent under sunlight or bright office light).

Oh, and both our DS Lites has 'floating' bottom screens. It isn't a problem, but I am curious to know if Nintendo has since 'fixed' it.

I have a White DS Lite-- and both hinges have broke off, leaving the screen very flimsy.

I haven't tried to send it back because I can't find the receipt, and I'm also afraid of having to pay $75 to get that fixed.

The R button on my original DS did, indeed, fail on me shortly before the release of the lite. On the lite I did end up with the hinge crack, as well as general plastic stress factors around all the hinges, presumably from keeping it in my pocket. And now the L button's starting to not fully respond reliably while playing FFIII. Luckily my lite's under warranty, but I worry that those stress cracks might void it for me.

My polar white ds lite has had a cracked hinge, the L shoulder button go out and 2 stuck pixels. Nintendo is fixing them now all under warranty. But I've heard of some homebrew that can unstick frozen pixel.

I discovered the "beginning" of a hinge crack on my white DS Lite last fall after first reading about them here. I waited until it developed into a full crack in December, and then sent it into Nintendo for repair/replacement. It was right at the end of the year, so it took a couple of weeks, but they sent me a brand-spankin' new DS Lite. The touch screen on this one is very slightly angled inside its housing, but it isn't enough of a problem for me to send it back. (The entire screen is still visible.)

When I had trouble with my Wii just a few weeks back, Nintendo also replaced it with a new unit. Needless to say, I'm very happy with Nintendo's customer service.

My DS was perfect.
My DS Lite, however, not so.
Got it at the European launch. Since then, I've had loads of problems.
About a week after I got it, the plastic border around the touch screen came off. Works still, but you can see the circuit board. Might be because of playing ACWW: I got it with the DS Lite, and I used it with the stylus. To walk, I would press it against the sides of the screen. Not a great idea.
Often, games won't work. They will either not be recognised or crash the DS on the DS logo animation and health warning. Only blowing on the cart will fix it.
And, the touch screen can slightly be angled on the bottom right if you press too hard. That might be from too much using powerups in world 8 of NSMB, though...

I purchased a white DS Lite on day 1 of the US launch, and needless to say, the left hinge cracked. Nintendo sent me a replacement, and that one eventually had a cracked hinge as well. I went through a whopping three replacement white DSL (read: refurbished) until I finally complained to Nintendo when the fourth and final white DSL developed the cracked hinge. Nintendo was more than willing to replace the problematic white DSL with a brand spankin' new DSL, color of my choice. I've had the pink DSL since early December and have yet to have an issue with it (knock on wood).

Supposedly, after this issue came to light, Nintendo responded by adding a "reinforced hinge" to the models made in August/September and later (at least that's what the Nintendo rep told me).

The AC adapter on my DS failed soon after I got it; I just used my GBA SP one (which the Nintendo help-line person wasn't aware anyone could do) until Nintendo sent me a beautiful free replacement. That's all!

I own a DS lite and I have had an issue with dead pixels on the touch screen. I took it back and got a replacement on the spot.
In regards to the cracked hinge, I have never had that and hope to never experience it...even if it is just cosmetic.

I bought a black DS Lite. The left button didn't work so I called Nintendo, and I received a replacement.

The new DS Lite has a white dead pixel on the lower left of the touch screen. Other than that, everything else seems to be working. I hope that I don't get a hinge crack or another broken button. My games (Hotel Dusk, Elite Beat Agents, Advance Wars, Brain Age, Yugi-Oh GX) need only the touch screen so I should be okay.

well, i have two ds lites (pink one my parents sent me for xmas; white one i won in an office auction) and they both seem to be made differently. the pink one has what i can only describe as a grainy like bottom touch screen, while my white one has both screens clear. they both have excellent d-pad control and zero dead pixels. my only fault with the white ds lite i have is cosmetic: it seems as light seaps through the gba slot area when playing in the dark. i hardly notice it though and it is not enough for me to want to return it.

I have a GBA SP with both shoulder buttons unresponsive (they need to be pressed very hard so can't be used in normal play) due to more than two years of heavy use. However as it is only used for playing GB/GBC games it is not a problem.

Last week my black DS lite also started having the left shoulder button be unresponsive but it is back to normal for now so I will see how it goes.

But the real kicker is that last weekend, after finally managing to go to world 4 of NSMB (didn't bother trying hard to go there before finishing the game) the DS totally stopped, like it would if the battery ran out of juice except that:

1. The light is green, not red.
2. It does it both when playing off the battery and when recharging.
3. So far it only does it with NSMB.
4. It only does it in a world, not in the map screen (so far).

I haven't played any other games extensively but I recently started Metroid Prime Hunters so I will see if it happens there too but I guess I will send it back for them to see what is wrong but I am waiting until I go on holiday to France as I lent my cousin my old DS phat that way I can still play while it gets repaired (though I'm gonna miss the lite's brightness).

I'm not sure what you mean by the hinges "breaking off", but if it's under warranty, you don't need a receipt or even the box.

my L button stopped... for a while...

I have two ds's one lite i got at launch and one phat I got a couple of month's after launch the lite has a cracked hinge and the phat has a broken hinge on the right side the screen wobbles and I can see the brown ribbon cable. One of my friends also has a broken hinge so i am surprised they aren't more common. It does effect gameplay because the top screen doesn't stop it only stops at 180º so the light glares off of it, and is very awkward.

My DS lite is fine except for the cracked hinge. Emailed Nintendo (Europe) about it twice and had no reply, and there's no support on their website for it, so I'm not impressed

my phat has a super cracked hinge but thats cause my sister dropped it a few times.
My lite has a stuck pixel i plan on fixing when i get a supercard and all that and my left trigger button only works every once and a while.

Still playable so no biggy.

My L button kinda stopped working so well on the original DS, like a lot of people seem to have said already.

The L Shoulder button on my DS Phat stopped working after 11 months. I am very surprised by this. I've never had a problem with any Nintendo system before.

I got a White DSL exactly one week after launch along with my brother. We have sequential serial numbers even. His had the hinge crack, and his L button stopped working. Mine has been perfect until recently, when the L button wasn't registering sometimes. Called up the big N the other day, and the label is on it's way!

Bought my DS Lite at the North American launch and ended up with a cracked hinge just like everybody else.

Haven't sent it in for repairs since I don't want to pay for that and I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible for a free replacement.

my dark blue Japanese light has a dead pixel on the top screen and the right shoulder button dosen't respond unless i press very hard =[ anyone know how i can fix the shoulder button?

I have a white DS lite that I bought about a week after launch and it lasted almost 6 months before its hinge cracked (it fell out of my pocket onto the pavement and developed after that). I would replace it, but I'm too lazy and since nothing else is wrong with it, I don't really care enough to bother.

I have a white DS light with the hinge crack and yellowing touch screen.

I bought my boyfriend a black DS LIte for christmas and it has a dead pixel on the top screen.

Use my DSlite quite heavily...no problems here. Neither on the hinges nor on the shoulder buttons!

Well.... my DS phat has broken sholder buttons, and my DS lite had broken hinge untill I got it fixed for free from Nintendo.

I have 2 DS Lite on hand, I have the first batch of white one and my girlfriend has the first batch of the pink ones. My white one has a crack on one of the hinge already and the power button spring must of have popped off because I can't power it on and off with a single simple flip, but having to need to lift the power switch up and down everytime I power it on and off. My girlfriend's pink DS Lite is in great shape except the bottom screen is starting to look kind of yellow.

When did you call them? They didn't cover it when it first blew up, but I'm quite sure they do now.

I keep trying to convince my friends to send it for repair before it gets any worse. The plastic beneath the crack of mine eventually broke off, leaving wires in between the screens to be exposed. Now a horizontal crack if forming near the R button.

I have also fallen victim of the hinge crack, I was on vacation with it only one week new and I found it with a crack and was so upset that I had all ready broken the hinge... Then I got on the internet and found this was a very common thing growing among the DS Lites... Everbody says it won't matter, but when the DS 2 comes out and I want to sell my lite and get the new one it won't have the best re-sell value... I want to send it it and get it repaired or whatever they will do but I don't feel it is worth the time, effort and money...

Launch day DS Lite. It has the hinge crack, just like everyone else that I know that has a DS Lite.

There's another problem, and I'm waiting for it to get in stock so I can replace it. If I play awhile (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes an hour or longer), the upper screen starts flickering and you can see portions of the image doubled, and it becomes unplayable. If I close the DS and reopen it, the flickering will go away for a while.

My Polar white DS lite has a cracked hinge and a green stuck pixel.

I have a DS phat, and the L button stopped working for me too. I put it in my pocket for a day of carrying it around, and when i next went to play, the L button had completely stopped responding, after my warranty ran out of course.

Just bought black DS Lite, when a + b are pressed system powers down, how do i fix this ? extremely annoying mid game !!!!

i have the horrible hinge crack on the left hinge on my white ds lite that i bought on launch day. i plan on sending it to nintendo but will they be able to switch it out for a black one????

Hm mine had the crack for about a month and then the entire part came off. And then just recently the closing of the DS has caused it to slide off the hinges to the point of it now not being able to turn on. Luckily it seems that they are replacing it for me free of charge as their email from the site said.
