Worms not on XBLA this week, still being certified
Last week we checked off Root Beer Tapper from Microsoft's list, leaving nine "approaching" Xbox Live Arcade titles in the queue. So who's up this week -- if there is to be a release? Not Worms.Team17 reports that Worms is still buried in the certification process; and despite the recent amendment, has been bound to the old 50MB size limit. As a result, the XBLA version is lacking in audio content and environmental themes; and an OXM review notes that the baseball bat, skunk, 'select worm' option, and 'Holy Hand' grenade have been left out. Team17 maintains that the omissions won't affect gameplay, but is committed to expanding Worms with downloadable content packs, both free and premium; similar to how Q Entertainment is handling Lumines Live.

What?! They left out the Holy Hand Grenade.
Easily the best weapon of all time!!
They'd better put that back in or I'll... well, I'll piss and moan and never get anything done.
rockintom99 @ Feb 12th 2007 3:33PM
Skunk? Eh. Bat is a bigger blow...
But no holy hand grenade? Are you serious? God damn it.
Tucker @ Feb 12th 2007 3:34PM
Fuck.
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2007 3:36PM
Dammit, MS... why the fvck won't they just drop that stupid 50 MB limit?
Rich @ Feb 12th 2007 3:37PM
"Dammit, MS... why the fvck won't they just drop that stupid 50 MB limit?"
I though they had. Isn't one of the Castlevanias being released?
KineticOnline @ Feb 12th 2007 3:40PM
At least they arnt going to make the mistake of lumines by trying to sell us half a game. i.e. we'll be getting all the game modes, just not some of the themes and sounds.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Feb 12th 2007 3:40PM
Great orangutans and breakfast cereals! They dropped the Holy Hand Grenade? Curses.
Scott @ Feb 12th 2007 3:40PM
Paperboy is going to be the XBLA game for this week.
Vidikron @ Feb 12th 2007 3:44PM
@5
I think they made a change to the XBLA rules that allows exceptions to be given to some games. According to the article Worms is still being held to the 50 MB limit. They just need to either drop that limit completely or raise it substantially.
Myke @ Feb 12th 2007 3:44PM
Woah, what? Seriously, I mean I dont even plan on buying this (have it and it's original for PC/PSone repectively) but that is insane to leave out one of the best weapons in the game. There is a huge amount of strategy and skill that goes behind grenade throws in general and to leave out the most rewarding ending to using those skills is just plain wrong.
polly @ Feb 12th 2007 3:44PM
That's bs. To make this even more painful, xblarcade.com is reporting Paperboy is the release this week. Fuggin lame.
Adam @ Feb 12th 2007 3:46PM
fuck sake
Agent MOO @ Feb 12th 2007 3:49PM
Argh, I want a reason to boot up my 360 before crackdown comes out. (and yes, I mean crackdown, not halo beta)
Josh @ Feb 12th 2007 3:50PM
It's cool. I'm sure they'll add those removed weapons in a nice $4.99 booster pack.
JBurton @ Feb 12th 2007 3:53PM
Its also been confirmed that Paperboy will be this weeks XBLA title.

Augh not downloaded packs!!! Easiest way to be cheated out of money!!!!!!!!!
Plus what happens if u downloaded the pack and someone else didn't, can u play with them?
ZenGaijin @ Feb 12th 2007 4:03PM
OMFG will they just release Alien Hominid HD already I don't give a shit about Paperboy, that bug game, Eet Chowdown,Luxor 2, Root beer tapper or any of that other bullshit.
ITs not fucking hard stop with the bullshit games every week and give us something worth these points I been saving for months now.
And can someone please explain to me why Worms is such a big deal? I'd much rather play like Turtles in Time on live arcade.
Crono @ Feb 12th 2007 4:05PM
Is the the ORIGINAL worms for MS-Dos or worms 2 (or later) style.
Because original was the shit, anything afterward just sucked.
Well, it wasn't nearly as good, at least.
Intentless @ Feb 12th 2007 4:08PM
18 the images look like its one of the newer and from what I understand its newer but not the bomb of worms 3D...
Ken @ Feb 12th 2007 4:12PM
Yea, it looks like a true successor to Worms: Armageddon or Worms World Party... should be awesome :-D
... but the omission of the HHG really hits home... they better still have the Super Banana Bomb in there or somebody is getting a bullet to the head.
Marty @ Feb 12th 2007 4:14PM
I don't understand the omissions of some of the weapons. Yes, a few of them were redundant, but frankly, they were fun, and made the game what it is. To me, Worms: Armageddon was gaming bliss for the series - everything afterward has sucked to all sorts of degrees.
Why is Team 17 so intent on ruining their most loved series with stupid remakes and watered down versions of the classics? Jut make the goddamn game the same as it was before... how hard is that?
polly @ Feb 12th 2007 4:22PM
@ZenGaijin,
Oh damn, Turtles in Time was awesome. That would be pretty cool. My personal dream release for XBLA would be a true port of the old 4 player X-Men arcade game.
Diskoboy @ Feb 12th 2007 4:27PM
Anyone who thinks Paperboy sucks, has obviously never played it.
It's actually pretty fun.
adam @ Feb 12th 2007 4:35PM
Just because you don't like a game, doesn't mean other people don't either.
I'm sure if Paperboy came out on the VC, y'all wouldn't be bitching so much about it.
Even though it would cost about the same, and have less features.
BOK @ Feb 12th 2007 4:47PM
I've played Paperboy.
It sucks.
So actually, the world isn't as obvious as you think, 23.
MosquitoControl @ Feb 12th 2007 4:49PM
No bat?
99% of the old games were bats. Single player almost always made you resort to them, and they were a blast in multi.
So this will probably be grenades and rockets mostly, the two blandest weapons.
PhrawzT @ Feb 12th 2007 5:27PM
What the hell? No bat? That was my favorite weapon.
x silence x @ Feb 12th 2007 6:13PM
Screw EA!! I hate MS!!! I'm off to hang myself...
*I wish it were this easy to get rid of trolls..
Joshua @ Feb 12th 2007 7:36PM
Gunbound.
Geoffrey @ Feb 12th 2007 7:47PM
Ok, say the skunk doesn't affect gameplay, but how can say that you're not effecting gameplay when you remove one of the best close range weapons (on open maps), the weapon that makes the biggest boom, and one of the few strategy items? Come on.
All of a sudden, forgetting about this and going back to Worms World Party on the PS1 or Worms Armageddon on the PC is looking more appealing.
polly @ Feb 12th 2007 8:14PM
I think in the recent interview they did one of the developers was saying they were trying to maintain the balance and integrity of the game. I love the holy hand grenade as much as the next guy, but I can kind of see what they're saying since probably 4 out of 5 matches we used that as our first shot and then just cleaned up the mess. Taking out the bat though...that just doesn't make sense.
Jay @ Feb 12th 2007 8:30PM
HOLY HAND GRENADE FOR LIFE!!!!!!
Tucker @ Feb 12th 2007 9:23PM
Polly: if you were playing with the "real" settings, then you wouldn't have had access to the HHG from the start of the game. The normal game settings had the superweapons only activate after a set amount of time (or was it number of turns?). That setting was specifically in place for "balance and integrity." Just like limiting the number of such weapons, etc. That was the real beauty of armageddon/wwp, though, because you could change all sorts of settings.
My suspicion is that they omitted said features due to laziness (*cough*like no infrastructure on PSP*cough*) or due to the desire to have Lumines-style addons. Which sucks. Either way, the thought process is terrible: "Hmm, if we keep our full set of weapons/etc in, we'd have to charge a little more and then we'll sell less" (false). "Hmm, let's charge less, remove a bunch of shit, and then release it as an addon to make more cash" (assholes).
Granted, I'll buy it. Lord knows. And I'm sure so will most of the rest of us who are bitching. But that doesn't make it suck any less.
OTAM @ Feb 12th 2007 10:35PM
Or how about we start putting the full version of the game online and we get that instead?
I guess i'm old fashioned that when I buy a game,I buy everything intended to be in the game, not piece by piece. It's like buying a castle, but getting half of it and then paying for each stone to finish it seperately.
daz @ Feb 13th 2007 2:24AM
How much space can a holy hand grenade take up, a few kb?! I suspect they have taken it out to avoid offending religious sensibilities.
admangreendog @ Feb 13th 2007 3:55AM
Man, I love the baseball bat, nothing like swinging a rope over a rock on a grapple hook, landing next to an enemy and with 2 seconds left creeping up to him and - ELSMACKO! off the edge of the screen with a baseball bat.
Bummer
