I think mine is a BenQ, but I'm out of town now and can't check. The fans drown out any sound from the drive, except if you listen carefully when a game first loads. It does seem quieter than my launch 360 that broke.
Then again, I have a Dreamcast, so drive noise obviously doesn't bother me :)
I have the hitachi, and to be honest it makes a bit of noise, but its a hell of a lot quieter than my PC (which sits right beside it) so i never hear it anyway
My 360 uses a Hitachi DVD drive. Also, my Wii doesn't need a tray n00b!
I hate going from playing the Wii (which is incredibly silent) to playing the 360 (which sounds like there is somebody with a lawnmower in my living room, mowing the carpet).
I have the Samsung, which is wierd because i just bought mine a couple months ago......its been sitting at my EB for a bit i guess hahaha
yeah my computer usually > than my 360 noise too, but i keep mine in a cabinet beside my TV so the door on its usually close, but oh man keeping it open at 3 am, when the volume on the TV is at 1, it still sounds like a rocket launch
It's a Toshiba, but I usually play across the room from my 360, and with sound, so I don't notice the noise. Unless it's during a loading screen with no sound, but it really doesn't matter. I don't get pissy at my PC for sounding like an airplane.
Git yourselves a nice, pioneer elite receiver, with a 15" down-firing mirage subwoofer, and polk rti floorstanding speakers, and satellites. Then tell me how loud the 360 is.
Play your games the way they were meant to be played.
I have the Toshiba, noise hasn't ever bothered me. I'm more into the game that I don't notice it. All CD/DVD systems have some kind of noise from them from the 3DO, Saturn, PS1, PS2, GC, Xbox, Sega CD,Dreamcast, they all had some kind of strange noise but I just got used to it.
Yeah, I'm really curious on how quiet the BenQ drives are. I have the Toshiba-Samsung one and it's pretty loud. Of coarse I'm pretty sure this one well break someday considering how cheap 360s are made (that being my only hope for one w/ a BenQ drive). I'm on my 3 360 already, this is the only time I'm happy I got the extended warranty for it.
Dude, how about you just do the fucking job you're being paid to do instead of surfing the internet. How can you have the nerve to bitch about something like that while you're screwing your company?
So what's the difference with all these damn drives?
My Wii drive has only failed me once. A friend and I rented Super Swing Golf, and the disc was all jacked up. When the Wii slurps it in, it just makes a clicking noise, and then an error screen comes up telling me to eject and reset. Blockbuster better give us a refund.
If the drive stopped working altogether, I guess I would have to download every single game on the VC and never play discs again. Or I could just play with the Forecast Channel.
I've got the one with the tray that is having a harder and harder time opening. Now I have to press the open button 4 times before it will actually open.
Two things: 1. If you can hear your 360's drive then your surround sound isn't up loud enough (don't have one? Shame. Get a job) and 2. Let me do a quick impression of those fancy slot loading devices that will inevitably happen one day: "ERRRReeeeeerrrrEEErrreeeeEERRRRRRRR." I can't wait for the day when my Wii does that.
