I've got a TS-H943 MS28
Arno @ Feb 14th 2007 5:26PM
Those that answered BenQ, is it really quiet?
Triforceowner @ Feb 14th 2007 7:29PM
Loud and noisy for me, I've got Hitachi. Are any of the drives connected to the broken disc problems?
AirIntake @ Feb 14th 2007 5:31PM
I think mine is a BenQ, but I'm out of town now and can't check. The fans drown out any sound from the drive, except if you listen carefully when a game first loads. It does seem quieter than my launch 360 that broke.
Then again, I have a Dreamcast, so drive noise obviously doesn't bother me :)
KineticOnline @ Feb 14th 2007 5:39PM
I have the hitachi, and to be honest it makes a bit of noise, but its a hell of a lot quieter than my PC (which sits right beside it) so i never hear it anyway
Attila @ Feb 14th 2007 6:37PM
I have the BenQ drive and I've never noticed the sound of it.
Alan @ Feb 14th 2007 5:42PM
My launch console has a Hitachi.
gregory mitchell @ Feb 14th 2007 6:37PM
yea mine is next to my pc so i never hear it anyway Olieva 323V FTW
LordMinogue @ Feb 14th 2007 5:55PM
Hitachi for me - was it the first or second drive to be used? I got mine in mid-March, so I'm not sure.
thebiggameover @ Feb 14th 2007 6:08PM
dude, use a diffrent poll. some of us check this site at work and dont need some loud chick tell my whole office that im not working...
GJM @ Feb 14th 2007 6:09PM
My 360 has a hibachi. I'll be frying up some Kobe tonight. Yeah baby!!!
OtakuCODE @ Feb 14th 2007 6:06PM
I'm on my second TS-H493.
Car2oon @ Feb 14th 2007 6:18PM
Slot-loader for life!
Biofreak @ Feb 14th 2007 6:19PM
MY WII and/or PS3 DOESN'T NEED A TRAY n00b!
This is amusing. isn't 360 thread?
Fire the guy who wrote this post.
geeddra @ Feb 14th 2007 6:24PM
Why would they even include an option for ps3/wii in thi poll??
Xanto @ Feb 14th 2007 6:34PM
@11, 12
it's meant to poke fun at the 360 since PS3 or Wii don't exactly have a disc drive that pops out
Russell @ Feb 14th 2007 6:43PM
My 360 uses a Hitachi DVD drive. Also, my Wii doesn't need a tray n00b!
I hate going from playing the Wii (which is incredibly silent) to playing the 360 (which sounds like there is somebody with a lawnmower in my living room, mowing the carpet).
3cubedminus3squared @ Feb 14th 2007 6:43PM
I have the ToSam.
I always have my iPod on when I play so I really never notice noises anyway.
accidental @ Feb 14th 2007 6:52PM
Whoa, over 2000 votes and only 15 comments.
Xanto @ Feb 14th 2007 6:47PM
on another note, i've got Toshiba-Samsung
ALH @ Feb 14th 2007 6:58PM
Toshiba-samsung. im guessing my first 360 had that too, bit the two sound completley different. the first one was louuuud.
Jim @ Feb 14th 2007 7:11PM
Hitachi vacuum clean... drive. :-(( LOUD!
Fel @ Feb 15th 2007 4:54PM
I have the Samsung, which is wierd because i just bought mine a couple months ago......its been sitting at my EB for a bit i guess hahaha
yeah my computer usually > than my 360 noise too, but i keep mine in a cabinet beside my TV so the door on its usually close, but oh man keeping it open at 3 am, when the volume on the TV is at 1, it still sounds like a rocket launch
Scott Krueger @ Feb 14th 2007 7:28PM
I ALSO HAVE THE HITACHI VACUUM CLEAN... DRIVE!!!!
MAN EVEN THE COOLING FANS ARE PRETTY LOUD!!!
There it is Turned Off now. Only my Ultra Quiet PS3 is running Now. So I don't have to Shout anymore.
VOODOO85 @ Feb 14th 2007 7:32PM
hitachi drive. uk launch console and isnt loud enough that i notice it. only if i mute everything and have my pc off can i hear it
Matthew Mac @ Feb 14th 2007 7:44PM
It's a Toshiba, but I usually play across the room from my 360, and with sound, so I don't notice the noise. Unless it's during a loading screen with no sound, but it really doesn't matter. I don't get pissy at my PC for sounding like an airplane.
adam @ Feb 14th 2007 7:46PM
Hitachi, but I never hear it anyways.
A nice audio setup will drown out everything.
Git yourselves a nice, pioneer elite receiver, with a 15" down-firing mirage subwoofer, and polk rti floorstanding speakers, and satellites. Then tell me how loud the 360 is.
Play your games the way they were meant to be played.
Do you guys play games on mute or something?
bigd7387 @ Feb 14th 2007 7:55PM
I have the Toshiba, noise hasn't ever bothered me. I'm more into the game that I don't notice it. All CD/DVD systems have some kind of noise from them from the 3DO, Saturn, PS1, PS2, GC, Xbox, Sega CD,Dreamcast, they all had some kind of strange noise but I just got used to it.
b @ Feb 14th 2007 7:49PM
Slot-load for life bitches!
Mr Khan @ Feb 14th 2007 7:51PM
If what 360 has is called tray-loading
And what WiiS3 has is called slot-loading
What is what the GameCube (and PlayStation) had called?
b @ Feb 14th 2007 7:57PM
28.
toploading
The ZeroCorpse @ Feb 14th 2007 11:25PM
BenQ, and yes it's very quiet. I had the launch version, too, and it sounded like a jet taking off compared to the BenQ.
ahatter @ Feb 14th 2007 11:51PM
"MY WII and/or PS3 DOESN'T NEED A TRAY n00b!"
i can not wait till peoples wii/ps3 start eating disk or just not spitting them out anymore.
Drew @ Feb 14th 2007 11:00PM
Yeah, I'm really curious on how quiet the BenQ drives are. I have the Toshiba-Samsung one and it's pretty loud. Of coarse I'm pretty sure this one well break someday considering how cheap 360s are made (that being my only hope for one w/ a BenQ drive). I'm on my 3 360 already, this is the only time I'm happy I got the extended warranty for it.
Rare Hare @ Feb 14th 2007 11:29PM
@ thebiggameover (#8):
Dude, how about you just do the fucking job you're being paid to do instead of surfing the internet. How can you have the nerve to bitch about something like that while you're screwing your company?
Rubang B @ Feb 15th 2007 12:48AM
So what's the difference with all these damn drives?
My Wii drive has only failed me once. A friend and I rented Super Swing Golf, and the disc was all jacked up. When the Wii slurps it in, it just makes a clicking noise, and then an error screen comes up telling me to eject and reset. Blockbuster better give us a refund.
If the drive stopped working altogether, I guess I would have to download every single game on the VC and never play discs again. Or I could just play with the Forecast Channel.
Josh @ Feb 15th 2007 8:12AM
I've got the one with the tray that is having a harder and harder time opening. Now I have to press the open button 4 times before it will actually open.
TeamAwesome @ Feb 15th 2007 8:46AM
My Wii doesn't need a tray? Hell, my Wii doesn't even need your stinking poll! It can does it's own polls.
Btw, what is your favorite type of poll?
1) Internet
2) Wii
3) Fishing
4) Stripper
jron @ Feb 15th 2007 10:59AM
Your mom is a slot loader.
Ieu-ee @ Feb 15th 2007 1:44PM
@ 34
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/23/ps3-broken-straight-out-of-the-box
I'm pretty sure I've seen a Wii that spews out disks on Joystiq as well...
ShaolinDolemite @ Feb 15th 2007 5:08PM
Two things: 1. If you can hear your 360's drive then your surround sound isn't up loud enough (don't have one? Shame. Get a job) and 2. Let me do a quick impression of those fancy slot loading devices that will inevitably happen one day: "ERRRReeeeeerrrrEEErrreeeeEERRRRRRRR." I can't wait for the day when my Wii does that.
P.S. Tosh/Sammy
