When Sony sent word of "Car Combat Coming to the PlayStation Store" we assumed it was final confirmation that David Jaffe's Calling All Cars would arrive in February, as planned. Instead, we're today offered the PlayStation 3 Full Auto 2 demo and Destruction Derby, another yawn-inducing (we hear they're contagious) PS1 oldie for PSP. Look, we like the thematic mix, but this half-baked cake is missing the icing. Just a little more time in the oven and Sony could have delivered with PlayStation Store's first great triumph. Maybe next time.

Call All Cars has been on IGN's release list as a March release for several weeks now.

Wow, when I read the headline on Playstations site, I was all like "hmm, a theme. Let us see what is in it."
Sure enough, Full Auto 2 (incidently, isn't this the first thrid party demo to hit PS or did the RR7 demo hit stateside?) demo and Demolition Derby.
Boot up my PS3 this morning to do battery checks on which controllers I need to charge for Guilty Gear Isuka friday night and check the store. Sure enough, Full Auto 2 demo and Demolition Derby for PSP...
Man, truth in advertising is so disappointing!

This is exactly wht the PS Network will ALWAYS be second rate!! We are still waiting for Tekken:DR and we will more than likely have to wait at least 2-3 weeks after Tekken is released and that's IF Tekken comes out next week without another delay!!

Honestly... I still don't understand why the PS3 will not allow you to play PS1 games on it.

Destruction Derby was the game that made me want a PlayStation. It was Destruction Derby 2 which pushed me into the PlayStation purchase.

Well said. Sony has the resources, however their online offering seems haphazard.
I really don't know anyone downloading PS1 games to their PSP by way of the PS3, however I agree, having the games available to the PS3 would be step in the right direction.

They're working on an emulator still.
But, I think you can still use PS discs in PS3 (not sure; haven't tried as I don't have a PS3).

wow and calling all cars wasnt suppose to come out until march anyway. i guess anything that sony does is reason enough to bad mouth them. eventhough the psn isnt as good as live, do you really have to take a shot at them for trying

i personally don't see what the big deal is, the shit is free and developing as time passes, it is what it is. if anyone is expecting to be the next XBL marketplace, you might as well go outside and read a book because that's not happening, at least not anytime soon. i like my ps3 a lot as well as my 360. games are flowing in. shut up already.

Actually, come to think of it, have we EVER heard a date before March?

@3
I think that is planned for one of the future updates.
@5
I plan to, but I'm waiting for some specific games. The games they are adding really are PS1 classics (depsite Joystiq calling them a bore), just not my favorites. I hoping for Twisted Metal 2 myself.
@6
Yes, PS1 disc work in the PS3.
@7
I expect it to be good since it's by Incognito.
@10
It actually was listed as February over at IGN, but that was nearly a month ago. I was disappointed when it got pushed back. But still, it has been listed at March for quite a while now, so I'm not sure why anyone expected to see it today.

Yeah, the Destruction Derby games were actually pretty good. Now if only I could play it on my PS3... I have a PSP, but not a stick with enough memory to download games.

Mr. BoomStick XL
I don't know how Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection could possibly have ANOTHER delay since they haven't even experienced their first. The US release date for Tekken 5 was only recently announced as "Late February." Two days ago, we met the halfway mark, buddy.
Tough it out, Gamer pal.

If you can put a PS1 disc into the PS3 and it works, which it does, that means they are not working on an emulator. Think about it.

Sony: I have a suggestion for you.
Let PS3 users rip PS1 games on the PS3 for the PSP and let you play them on the PS3 with benefits. The PS3 already authenticates legal PS1 games before it plays them, so why not add the ripping software? You still have to have a legal copy first, and you can still offer them off your PSN store.
If you need to make some money, offer a CDDB kinda thing, where for a buck you can download the instruction booklet, cover art, and such to makeit non-generic. Heck, if you get enough punch behind it, you might be able to setup a paid-for P2P network downloading system to take the stress off your servers.
Spend a little time and you might even be able to switch your PS2 library to pure digital distribution too.

Actually, just because you can put a disc in doesn't mean it's not running on an emulator. I can put PC Engine and Sega CDs into my modded Xbox and play them, but they are running on emulators. But your still right about it not being an emulator... just not for the reason you gave.

Destruction Derby was one of the first "just one more rounds, then I'll quite" games for the ps1. I remember playing that until 3 in the morning many a night back in the lawless days of middle school. May just have to add that to jumping flash on my psp when I get home tonight.

Nevermind... I read your post incorrectly the first time. But I think he may actually be correct. I thought they were going to move to emulation to reduce the hardware cost.
