Gee, surprise surprise. Seriously, did anyone think they actually wanted a "test?" The masses don't know what a beta is and it would tarnish the games image if it was unpolished and full of bugs.

i just hope the people in the different phases get to play at least a week or two before the crackdown people and get to play longer than those in the crackdown version.

Why? how is that fair? A select few got lucky and got picked for the beta without having to pay any money at all, why should we, the ones who will be dishing out 60 bucks have to wait longer than you and not get as good a turn? I can see that you obviously won in phase 1 or 2, cause ignorance shows pretty hefty. If anything the ones that are paying for a game to get a beta should go first for paying.

To 3.

And why is that? Because you made the luck of the draw? How does that make you any better than those of us that are true fans and got screwed out of both phases? I signed up for Phase 1 the moment it went live, and didn't make it. My only option to get to play the Beta is with Crackdown, which I'm paying money for. SO why is it that your paying nothing to get into the Beta makes you better than us throwing $60 down?

Personally as a gamer that'd rather wait for stellar content over immediate, less-than-optimal gameplay, I'd hope that the Halo 3 beta DOES crash and stress the servers, and not just once or twice.

We all know that lag happens that there's problems sometimes with online gameplay, and moreover, we all know Halo 3 will be a massively played online title. I hope that Bungie, MS and those in control do monitor well, catch the problems and make the final server strong. They say the weld is stronger than the metal it bonds: so i'd rather break the metal into shatters now and see an amazing, surprising event this November. It'll be fun to see the system shut down and maybe mess up constantly before that, knowing we're seeing the growing pains in person (and maybe causing them!) being in the beta, I'm not expecting a solid expierience, but I am expecting a memorable, fun one that can only bolster me more as a fan of Xbox and Halo.

Jon, why? Because you got lucky? Because you live in the USA? For us in Europe, the only way (except for a few hundred people) is to buy Crackdown. So much for "worldwide launch" how about worldwide equality...

Also, I reckon Bungie will use this for balancing weapons, extensive playtesting etc. and also for adjusting the HUD and menu layout. just minor things.

#7, I agree the beta testers got lucky, but it has nothing to do with "world wide equality". The very thought of this had me laughing.
Bungie didn't have to release a beta at all, much less world wide. In addition they are an American company who was in their infant stages supported by a majority of American gamers. Why wouldn't they show their appreciation to the gamers that supported them first in the country that they are citizens?
p.s. Don't forget that none of us over here give a shit about Europe in the first place. So don't bother complaining, we don't care.

Heh, Halo 3 being a stress test for live makes it not a real beta. Man, that is one hell of a comment. I guess people really don't know what a beta is. Seriously, you think beta's for MMO's are just to find bugs? Haha, silly people. Is there even a point to this article and the interview other than to state a chair is not a chair, but simply somthing ment for one to rest on in an upright seated position.

This one made my day, thank you.

Anticrawl,

The point isn't that it won't be a beta at all, but more that it won't be a beta in the full sense. Sure, betas are used to stress test, but it's likely that is *all* the Halo 3 beta will be.

The point is that bug reporting will likely be minimal.

What ever on the stress test; but how bout that cool ass looking ATV thing the Master Chief is straddling!!!! I can't wait to run over a few assholes in that thing, or snipe a few bastards out of it! I thing lag and cheating are inevitable with online play; I'm looking forward to having the big system link parties at the house when the final version comes out. Wings, beer, and Halo. Fucking blissful...

Roofus, thanks for your kind and helpful words, once again reassuring me that I really shouldn't emigrate.

I'm just pissed that we get almost EVERYTHING later than you lot, who, judging from your demeanour, shouldn't be entitled to free speech, let alone betas ;) iTunes movie store and xbox one arent over here yet, just pissing off. Meh, at least we don't get ripped off on mobile phone contracts :D

Personally, I'm not even that excited about Halo 3. I mean great, its just more of the same stuff that I've seen before. Ride around in some vehicles, hit people in the back of the head when they're not looking, and get sniped by some jerk immediately when I respawn. There's just not that much more that can "Wow" me with this franchise. Gears of War has got me hooked now. That game offers a great new experience that I haven't seen before. I'm not even that impressed with the Halo 3 screenshots and videos I have seen so far. I think the 3rd installment is really more of a "cashing in" end to the series. I think a lot of people like Halo just b/c so many people play it. Its the whole hype that goes along with playing the almighty Halo that has everyone so excited. Just sitting around with your friends and bonding I guess. Kind of like how a lot of people get together to watch the superbowl. 3/4 of those people aren't there b/c they wanna see the game. They are there for the commercials and socializing. I personally wanna watch the game, and I don't think Halo 3 can offer me anything drastically different from what I've already seen. All you bleeding hearts can disagree with me, thats fine. I dont hate Halo, I'm just getting sick of it. It just gets boring after a while.

Darn it! I wont even be able to play the beta (no 360... yet!). back to the topic, this beta "test" is what it should be: a test to iron out all bugs. no one wants another unbalanced energy sword (although theyve already fixed that)

happy playing

Yeah but they have to go through the matchmaking service on XBL. That's where a potential (and probable) bottleneck is.

To number 15:

you're just saying that because you suck at halo. it's okay, though. I understand.

The GOW gameplay is fun, yes, but it doesn't compare to Halo's MM. Not being able to play ranked games with your friends was GOW's downfall.

here's to hoping you get better at halo

I just don't understand all the love Halo gets. It's a good FPS, but really, it's nothing special. I must be the only person who didn't even finish Halo 2, and who never bothered to play online more than a few times. It's not fun online at all! I'd much rather play Team Fortress Classic than Halo 2 online.

The hype is weird. It doesn't do anything new, or different. I've played a few dozen FPS games that were similar or even better. What's Halo got that I'm not seeing?

I'll be getting Crackdown to play Crackdown. I might look at Halo, but I doubt it will hook me. So far, none of them have.

All this stress over the beta is silly. It's just another FPS.
