Myst Online launches to a free trial

After our in-depth look at the final hours of the Myst Online: Uru Live beta, we were pretty eager to jump back into the caverns and get back to exploring. We didn't have to wait long as the game officially launched today and there was more going on than just the in-game block parties.
Gametap is offering up a free trial of their service that comes along with a visitor account for Myst Online, though it does sound rather limited. You'll be allowed to create one character in which to explore one stage of the game, as well as any public neighborhood. It is worth a shot of course, if not just to scope out the locals.
A new Linking Book was also released that takes players to age of Tsogal. Inside the book is an incredible looking water garden with, naturally, a few to hide. While we were initially stumped (and distracted) by an ominous locked door, spinning around and flashing patterns, we manged to break on through to the other side with the help of other travelers. As for any other additional content, we'll just have to do some more exploring.

Gametap trial warning: To cancel you have to call them (you can't online), are forced to wait on hold, play 20 questions about what you liked and didn't like about it and why you are canceling.
Generally VERY annoying and one of the reasons I haven't thought about becoming a paid subscriber.

Gametap sucks. Not worth it. Release an actual game for 30 bucks and I'll buy it. I dont do monthly fees.

a little off topic..........but does anyone else agree, that myst would be perfect for the wii?

Adventure games in general would be great for the Wii, and they have a better market there than they do on the PC (casuals love Wii).

I just signed up after they said that vista is ready. And it was a hassle to install, and now after I finally installed it, I can't play any games.
First just because your main vista user is an admin, doesn't mean that installs as an admin. It kept telling me that I needed admin privileges. I had to go into the properties of the setup file, and check the install as admin option. Then after it installed I had to do the same thing for the main program .exe. Now that I am in and able to navigate the system, and view videos, I cannot launch games what-so-ever. They download, but won't launch. They just sit there as if nothing happened.
Thanks Gametap.

Some corrections about GameTap:
GameTap supports online cancellation via chat. It's on the website (in Support).
GameTap supports Vista as of yesterday. Unfortunately, most video drivers for Vista still suck, which GameTap can't control. Try calling help, or using online chat to see if they can help you out.
You can play GameTap and Myst without a credit card. It's on MystOnline.com. You don't need to be a member to play a trial version.
GameTap is pretty awesome. For the cost of a single next gen game, you can get access to tons of fantastic games, including some of the greatest games ever made. Plus Sam & Max and now Myst Online.
