The term, "I'd buy the system for just this game only" is used very loosely nowadays, but I tell 'ya what, I will get a PS3 for this game. I don't care whether it's not announced, or even started on yet, but Fumito Ueda's team is one of the most creative in the industry and this will, without a doubt, show the power that Sony has been clamoring about.

I dunno if it's in Team Ico's style to make a direct sequel, but if it's an online Colossus where you have to work together with 5 people to bring down Colossi, I'd be... very happy.

Too bad whatever it is likely won't be out for a few years.

For me, ICO >>> SotC. I dunno if I'd consider getting a PS3 just for this game. But who knows, maybe my opinion of the PS3 and Sony will change over time and I'll want a PS3 at some stage. Never say never...

i dont want to buy a system for this game, but what i probably will do is buy it anyways and kinda look at it on my shelf, then when the ps3 is knocked down to a tiny enough price..or a kickass emulator pops up, whatevers first ;D - i'll finally get to play.

Ico sucked, the game was boring as hell, and the puzzles were stupid and easy for the most part. The "battle" scenes were booooring, seriously why is this game so praised?

You won't have to pay $600 to play this. By the time it comes out, the price of the PS3 will be significantly less.

Did you even beat it? Or did you get to the first truly hard puzzle (about an hour in), scream in frustration, and say "Well, Sony made this to **** this game!"

If you bought ICO expecting Devil May Cry, then you are a moron. Point blank, I said it. But ICO, as a cinematic, pacifying experience, was phenominal.

@sheppy,

I completely agree. ICO and SOTC were two games very much overlooked by the mainstream that provided the most satisfying game "experience" on the PS2. You used the word "pacifying" perfectly. These games made me feel very relaxed; they enveloped me in the world without constant, nail-biting tension.

I hadn't planned on a PS3, but damn it, this announcement gets my wheels a turnin'.

This is pretty much the moment I've been dreading. I have zero interest in buying or owning a PS3, but Ueda is probably responsible for about %51 of my interest in console gaming at this point. Current expected strategy: wait for game, buy game, find a PS3 owner, and then bribe them with booze, drugs, sexual favors, or whatever for the privilege of sitting in their living room and screaming at anyone nearby to, "Please keep it the hell down!" Damn. Can't someone hire some Gibson-esque corporate defector-mercenary to go kidnap Ueda and his family and bring them to Nintendo's Nevada compound? Please?

@Sheppy

Yes I did finish the game, and I still think it was bad, I knew it wasn't an action game but since everyone talked about how great it was, I gave it a chance. Boy that game is boring, there is no interesting story, the gameplay mechanics are bad, only the graphics score good, but then only for the time it was released.

SotC on the other hand was way better, because the puzzles were huge monsters and the music was badass, it's completely different from Ico except for the "cinematic experience"

You don't have to whine like a Zelda fanboy because I said a game you like sucks, I didn't expect an action game, but damn, I didn't expect it to be that boring either.

It would not be out of the way to have an online SOTC, If you search youtube for their alpha target render... they had 4 riders trying to take out one of the colossus from in the game. It was actually kinda surprising to see, but I guess that got shot down because of the ps2 capabilities offline/online. I'm glad to hear their starting work on a new game though, and better news that it's for the ps3 ( now it's starting to justify me going and buying one, but not yet- Hardware revision ftw)(not for the win but; fuck the what)

Ico was a good game. But, it isn't one of those games that was "clearly awesome" for everyone. For what it is, it is amazing. But a lot of people are not going to like it one bit. I thought it was pretty boring as did many. It was pretty to look at and had its moments, but the gameplay was pretty light. Short game, too. Awesome ending. I would say it was a great game that didn't quite fit the type of game that I enjoy. If that makes any sense. You can't really say it "sucks", though, when so many people absolutely love it. I just isn't for you.

Why? Do you think that Wii would be a better platform for their new game?

I think they've already reached the limits of last-gen hardware with ICO and SOTC. Having to work with something like Wii would be extremely frustrating for them.

PS3 (or Xbox 360 - but that isn't happening) is the perfect platform for their new stuff.

I think you're perhaps selling the Wii a bit short. At this point I'm not sure that anything has come along that has really shown the full capabilities of the system, which is not really unusual. Ico and SotC used the same hardware, but would you say that they're equals graphically? Innovative thinking and a familiarity with hardware breeds good graphics. What causes the fans of Ueda's work to become so zealous is that the two games share a sense of quiet, peaceful exploration, punctuated by moments that shake you into an instinctive action. The leap across the broken bridge in Ico comes to mind, or the first time you just straight up charge a colossus. But over these is the feeling that the games possess a quality unlike anything you've played before. I never stopped to wish for better graphics.

It seems to me that the things that make some people despise his work are what makes them so special for the fans.

I guess it's a gut reaction. It just feels like it belongs at Nintendo more. They seem a bit more open to experimentation, especially on the Wii.

What sounds more appealing; a new Ueda on the PSP, or on the DS? See?
