I think most agree the grey front looks out of place next to a the white facia of the 360. Given the choice I'd pick black.

It's cool, but since the 360 is white it won't match when it's next to it. It'll look stupid.

hmm. so if people who get these internally are allowed to sell them, contrary to previous policies, that makes me thing these things will be available for sale to the general public soonish. and like the poster above said, that indicated, more firmly than any previous rumor, that an update black 360 is one the way.

my only question is, if these things are true, why not build the HD-DVD drive in? purely a money thing?

Yes. MS has said that they don't want to force any formats (read: extra costs) in their hardware. If they want it, they'll buy it.

I'm thinking this is more of a "first run" black HD-DVD that will be released when the Black Xbox 360 comes out. I won't be buying either, because in another year they will have a purple one or something that will have 260 gig, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray dual drive with HDMI. It doesn't pay to be an early adopter with MS thats for sure!

They cant build the HD-DVD drive in, it takes up too much space currently and its not something everyone wants, and is willing to pay for. Giving the option allows the people who want it to have it, and Microsoft isn't forcing a format that may or may not "win" down peoples throat... *coughSONY*

yea sony might be forcing you to buy the new-gen format but keep in mind that this allows developers to make games with a shit load of data in games. making games longer, bigger and have better graphics
if M$ did bring out a 360 with the hd player internally, i would ditch the current one one buy that one.

Not true pipe.....Game developers are hesitant on producing PS3 games because of the lack of install base. To fill up a Blue Ray disc with gaming code costs more than its worth. Sony exclusives are becoming a thing of the past so the extra space on a Blue Ray disk is just that Extra Space!!

Yes they could make games longer and bigger on one disc, but it in no way will improve graphics. Sony is counting on idiots to keep spreading the BS. The PS3 is overhyped and intelligent people can see that, that is why hardly anyone is buying it.

The 360 could also make games just as long, they would just be on more disc. I could care less if it were on one or two disc, anyway. And if developers were going to make games that big they would already be doing it on the 360, by using more than one disc. But as said by someone above the majority of developers don't even want to make games that big.

I understand the "pay for what you want" mantra of MS on the HD DVD drive.... but no one wants the basic 360 unit.
So why not cut costs and just have the premium bundle and a HD DVD version of the console, which one would have to assume would be cheaper to manufacture than the seperate unit, and sell it for like $550. but then again, their could be unforseen manufacturing issues (Read:size of drive) preventing that.

and i have to agree, the ability to resell this screams pre-production unit, which you would have to assume will lead to a black 360.
