Reggie is arguably the ugliest gaming bigwig ever. To quote RCR - "Barf!"

"[Gamers] need to recognize that when we release [Metroid Prime 3], it will be perfect."

And Nintendo needs to realize this slow, lackadasical approach to releasing titles is what HAS KILLED THEIR LAST TWO CONSOLES. Wake up, dummies - your third party help isn't coming anytime soon, they're as far back as you are. Maybe even more back, as they've only recently been made "believers" in the platform after a good holiday for the console.

Christ, they're just Gamecube games with funny control...what the hell is the hold-up? The games should be DONE and they should only be working on control by now - that's going to take all year? Hire some more people for christsake.

How much you want to bet that when Metroid Prime 3 comes out and it's NOT perfect that no one will take him to task? Sure, people jump on Molyneux for saying Fable will be the best RPG ever, but if Reggie Elephant-Face says something is perfect and it isn't, OMGZ WHO CAREZ KUZ NINTENTO ROCKZ

@Geo

I'll try to explain the "Game Drought" phenomenon. People buy Nintendo Consoles for Nintendo games. Good Nintendo games. It is the one thing Xbox and Playstation will probably never have... Nintendo Games. That said, the third party showing for a Nintendo system has been completely lacking for many years now. Outside of Resident Evil 4, when was the last time you said "Wow, I need to get a Nintendo console to play "This game from this 3rd party developer"... That coupled with the fact that Nintendo releases 1 good-great first party game every 3-12 months (Sometimes Longer) constitutes a drought.

So far it has happened with the PS, PS2, PS3 (FF, MGS, GT)and Xbox 360 (Gears of War, Dead Rising). Outside of Resident Evil 4 (which was a timed exclusive anyways), I can't remember a time when a Nintendo console has done that since the SNES. I could be wrong, it may have happened...

Did I not say 'suggested'? Did I not say 'similar Code'? Get off my dick, bitches

Besides, the comment clearly reads "Thats perfect for you" as in 'Arrogance? Overpriced Bloatware?' "THATS SONY FOR YOU" lololoamirite lolo...sigh.

I bet my left nut that reggie nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders on that comment.

But why are we arguing? Joystiq, pick up the phone and solve this mystery, before I stop playing who shall I kill first in my head, and just do what feels natural.

Drought, the way you here people, there is nothing on the console that's at all worth buying between now and Metroid Prime 3...

Between now and then, Nintendo is making: Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Battallion Wars 2, and Pokemon Battle Revolution, Possibly Super Mario Strikers Charged, possibly Fire Emblem: Goddess of the Dawn

And that's not including a handful of worthy 3rd party titles

Hehe, I did not put in the portable consoles. But if you wanna add those in, the DS is a prime example of a console without a drought. The DS has plenty of 3rd party software that makes you say, "Wow, I need a DS to play this game." Actually, Recently it has been a great time for both portable units. I must confess, I LOVE Chili Con Carnage.

"3rd party offerings are second-rate ports or niche games just to exploit the new controller. I don't see any 3rd parties going gung-ho with a major new exclusive IP for the Wii. The thing is, all the top developers WANT to develop with cutting edge technologies and next-gen graphics...the Wii simply doesn't offer that. It's going to be mostly twitch games and gimmicks outside of first party content...perfect for casual gamers. The Wii will succeed, but ultimately not win this console war."

compare the psp grpahics and capabiltiies to the ds though its waay ahead yet all they do is make ports for it.

my feeling is that between now and MP3, just about every notable game coming out seems average or just above average. mario party hasn't been fun since the first game when i was in 4th grade. super paper mario was a gamecube game up until about 6 months ago which means it'll probably be a solid GC title, but mediocre Wii title with uninteresting motion controls. blazing angels has been average with two separate outings on 360 then PS3. sonic does look really good. The problem with sonic is that he's had 4 or 5 bad releases in a row, so it's hard to have faith. what pokemon battle game has been particularly fun? super mario strikers again is just a GC port. Cooking mama seems to have little depth, at least not 40-50 dollars worth. Battallion wars should be solid, as should tiger woods. SSX could be fun, but again the last couple of games have be just above average. Sure there's a good number of titles coming out, but there is no game coming out within the next 6 or so months that can convince me that the Wii will have anything great till MP3

So basically:

Mario Party in summer
Galaxy sometime between summer and fall
Metroid in fall
Brawl in winter or perhaps later

Looks like a drought to me. Or to be more pricise, a major first party game drought. Yeah, there's Fire Emblem and stuff but that's not why I'm going to pay $250. The reason people buy a Wii isn't for Raving Rabbids and stuff. It's fun but your thinking about Brawl while and after you play it.

so? if you're a 3rd party is this GOOD news. You never want to go up against Nintendo...

They have to space out the releases, and everyone wins here.

Logically, what does this mean... before Metroid comes there will be some very cool 3rd party titles out. So you have nothing to complain about..

@ Geo

When there were games to buy I bought plenty in the last gen.
SSX is a maybe because of the lack of online.

Paper Mario is a pass because quite frankly, I'm getting tired of the Paper Mario series.

Sonic could very well be trash just like nearly every 3D sonic game ever made, so the jury is still out on that.

Blazing Angels? Are you serious? Have you played that on 360?

Godfather...uh...no. That's a pass. Definately not what I would call a Wii selling titles and not what I bought the Wii for.

The games I really wanted to play on Wii were Metroid, Zelda, Smash Brothers, Mario Galaxy and F-Zero

I'm willing to try Battlion Wars and Fire Emblem. I'm probably forgetting a title or two but other than the games that I mentioned, I was hoping to be surprised with some original titles too. I was also hoping that Nintendo wouldn't repeat the shite they pulled with the DS launch. I sat around for over 6 months and had NOTHING really worth to playing because of a pathetic drought on DS. Sure it got better, but I felt like a total smuck because at least PSP had Wipeout, Lumines, Darkstalkers and a good version of Ridge Racer at launch.

Look Reggie promised no game drought. So I expected NO game drought.

Then I need to play my roommate's Super Metroid and then play both Metroid Prime 1 and 2. And THEN they can release Metroid Prime 3. And I will be ready for it!

Oh no, I didn't forge the original Metroid. It's the only one I've finished. And I'm halfway through MPH on DS and I've got Metroid II coming in the mail. I might just play them in the order they came out now. I hear all 3 Metroid Primes take place between the NES and the Game Boy ones, and that Hunters is between Prime 1 and Prime 2. I'd do it that way, but I'd rather end with Corruption on the Wii than with a 1991 Game Boy game. Oh crap, I forgot about Fusion and Zero Mission. No idea when those plots take place.

And back on topic, Nintendo delays are awesome. They make the games better. Shigeru Miyamoto delayed a game called Twinkle Popo and canceled all 26,000 pre-orders. That game became Kirby's Dream Land. These guys know what they're doing. And I can keep myself busy playing Metroid II and Kid Icarus II on Game Boy, and trying to beat my Mega Man Anniversary Collection and Mega Man X Collection.

They are just giving a large window for 3rd party developers to sell software. They obviously need more 3rd party support. Its a good strategy for now since most nintendo fans will buy M.P.3 and first party games. If they (3rd parties) can tweak the game play mechanics as well as actually improve the overall graphics then we will see a huge improvement that will lead to better 3rd party sales. I hope square makes a sick RPG for the wii. It would be about time.... none of this Crystal Chronical crap either.

Ok, so I think I get the drought thing. All the people who believe there is a drought only bought the wii for 1st party games. If you are only looking for first party, EVERY SYSTEM IS IN A CONSTANT STATE OF DROUGHT!!!

Strider, I didn't ask if the games were system sellers. I asked if you wanted to play them. Your points about the games I pointed out don't answer whether or not you want to play them. The criteria that you use to call it a drought are very specific to you.

Im interested in playing even the ports at least once. I believe that even "bolted on waggle" could make these games a little more interesting.

I think you can't really pretend there's no drought. Compare: ebgames.com Wii page, "new releases" box has games dated 2/12, 1/15, 12/14, 12/13, 12/12 as the 5 most recent games. If you don't immediately think that's insane, the XB360 page has 2/6, 1/30, 1/30, 1/17, 1/12. I did not buy a $250 console to have 5 games released in 2 months (of which one was a golf game). At least there have been some solid VC releases in that time -- mostly Zelda stuff, but a few other gems (which I would jump on if I had the time to play anything at all). I think Reggie officially screwed the pooch with his "no drought" line.

Geo:

You're still missing the crux of the issue:

EVERY OTHER SYSTEM HAS DECENT THIRD PARTY SUPPORT!!!

That potentially crap lineup of mostly third party games you cited is exactly the type of shovelware support Nintendo seems to attract with its consoles -- even more so with the success of the Wii. Not one of those games you mentioned is worth getting excited about owning a Wii.

Exclusive SSX is worth buying.
Sonic is iffy, but by all accounts better than 360/PS3 counterparts. Worth playing.
The wii is the best place to own tiger woods.
Mortal Kombat is worth renting due to new controls.
Godfather too.
Prince of Persia too.
TMNT too.
Blazing angels, heatseeker too.
Cooking mama is worth a rental.
Nintendo has put out a first party game nearly every month.
Many Virtual Console games worth buying that I have never played before.

All Im saying is that its odd how one sees a game drought, and I've got plenty to play.

And all I'm saying is this: There is a drought if you want there to be one.

You should say "some people buy nintendo consoles for nintendo games". I bought it because it was something different. Since the wii is being bought by many people who wouldn't necessarily be into video games otherwise, I doubt first party support was on their minds. Of course nintendo's first party games are incredible, but that was not my only thinking before getting it.

Im more excited about SSX Blur than I ever would be about a resident evil.

I see a game coming out every week for the next month an a half that I want to play. If you don't, that doesn't make it a drought, you are just being picky.
