Namco has unveiled the arcade version of Tekken 6 at Japan's AOU 2007 coin-op exhibition, along with a new website. The new page features a brief trailer of the new fighter, several screenshots (available below for your convenience) and wallpaper of the two new characters: Leo and Zafina.
It's difficult to comb much information from the trailer concerning the newcomers to the series, but from the looks of it, Namco is set to challenge the throne of Itagaki when it comes to underage heartthrobs with Leo. Zafina, on the other hand, is a Latina woman of the mature persuasion who looks to possess a highly unorthodox fighting style. Joining them thus far are old favorites Asuka, Jack, Brian Fury, King and Dragunov, though the cast will naturally swell as time goes on.
Though it is quite early (and due for a 2007 release, according to the trailer), Tekken 6 appears to be around the same level of visual quality as last years Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. While one can argue that even Tekken 5 wasn't a graphical leap beyond Tekken 4, we're keeping our fingers crossed for some serious upgrades.

the king is dead. the king is dead. (shakes clenched fist in a pumping motion like in the Arsenio Hall shows).

I actually thought Tekken 4 looked better than Tekken 5, but I thought Tekken 5 played MUCH better. I really hope Tekken 6 was popular enough to get into the Arcades where I play Tekken 5 all the time and Tekken 4/TAG previously.

PLEASE someone make a new fighting game. DOA4, VF5, TEKKEN6. honestly, after so many iterations and no real leap in gameplay (or graphics), why do we need to buy these new installments? for the one or two new characters? ugh. i just want to see something new, that is actually fun to play. DOA4 really killed my spirit for the fighting genre.

well I think those are the best character models I've seen in a fighting game since Soul Calibur 2/3...
those muscles look mighty realistic stretching around like that, hope it turns out well and comes just like that to xBox360 or PS3

For Tekken 6 I need a sidestep that actually works, better balance and wall juggles that aren't cheap as all get out. Graphically, it's really doesn't look that big of a step up from T5.
Then again...screw it...keep Tekken 6, where's Soul Caliber?

Not featured in their gallery is a huge banner above the booth (someone on neogen snapped some shots) and in the huge banner was the Playstation 3 logo. So consider that confirmation, if you will.
And by the way, Biggen, where's your copy of Melty Blood if you want something new so much? The established series are what survived the fighting game wars. Now that it's over, a company has a HUGE hurdle to jump with their first game without being instantly compared to DOA, Tekken, VF, or even Street Fighter.

Incidently, have they confirmed Zafina is latino? She looks Indian to me. Persian perhaps?

It seems they got the inspiration of Zafinas' fighting style from the movie X-men character Mystique. You will notice she looks like Rebecca Romijgn. I don't know about the Leo character, yeah another uninspired cheesy young effeminate male.

These aren't exactly the days of old when every company and their brother was making fighting games. We no longer have a situation like Weaponlord and Golden Axe: The Duel was dropping within weeks of each other. In fact, aside from the established series and licensed games, fighting games have all but been abandoned.
There will come a day when fighting games are as rare as shumps, but until that time, be grateful we are even getting these.
Personally, fighting games remain one of my favorite genres when friends are over just because they are still focused around multiplayer. If shooters must because the next fighting game standard, they need to start having four player splitscreen and bots as a standard (Incidently, Lost Planet being single player only is BULLSHIT!)

I agree. Lost Planet with splitscreen co-op or 4 player deathmatch would've been seriously hot. 'tis ashame. The best selling shooters of all-time (Goldeneye 007 and Halo) have 4 player deathmatch on one console. What part of that formula are developers not getting???
And, just give me Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and I'll be a happy man.

Why do companies seem to think shiny graphics will look better?
This game seems afflicted by that, VF5 looks afflicted the same, even Super Smash Bros Melee had the shiny problem (although it looks like they fixed that with brawl), Crackdown too looks to have the Shiny problem
I think this game would look better with the same polygon count, but take away that sheen on everything...

I'm convinced Nintendo was right all along. We are rapidly coming to a point where these graphics (while impressive) are no longer knocking us off our feet. Yes it looks good/great but a LOT of gamers have become so jadded that even this is not good enough.
I think before we know it, it's all going to fall squarely into how well the art direction is. Pure realism can only get you so far and will quickly wear thin after the next year or two

Man, I agree with every single word you posted there. Fighters and Shmups... two old school genres that I still love. And, yeah, I'd would have LOVED to have had 2-player co-op in Lost Planet. I've even had friends over ask me, "Why doesn't/Does this game have co-op?" while watching me play.

What does SNK's "Rock Howard" have to do with this sixth incarnation of Tekken? Did he cross a dimensional rip?
