While we'd like to bring you the hardware sales weekly for the United States as well (and Europe after the PS3 launches there), our searching has proven mostly fruitless -- everything we could come up with had very different numbers. If anyone's got a pretty reliable source (preferably not related to any one company, or the game industry directly), feel free to drop us a tip and we'll give them our weekly nod as well. Anyway, here are the Japanese hardware sales for last week.- DS Lite: 201,177
- Nintendo Wii: 78,550
- PSP: 32,175
- PS3: 23,431
- PS2: 16,033
- XBox 360: 4,811
- The rest are low numbers of other handhelds, last gen games... not really pertinent.
Well, geez. You'd think that everyone in Japan and their deceased ancestors have a Nintendo DS by now (I actually ordered one two days ago since none of the stores in Athens have any in stock), but the good thing to draw from this is the apparent decrease in PS2 purchases and the rise in PS3 adoptions. While Virtua Fighter 5 may not have spawned a buying frenzy for the PS3, it helped a teeny-weeny bit. Leave us your thoughts!
