Honestly, I don't care if it's pay or not... that's not the point.

The point is, Nintendo's putting more content behind its online functions, on top of simply online play.

I mean, we look at each feature as a singularity, they're going to look dissapointing: News? meh. Weather? meh. Voting? meh. Nintendo Power? meh.

But if you put them all together, along with future possible online additions, and a year or so down the line you'll have a busy, thriving community surrounding Nintendo's online platform.

Just keep coming out with more channels, N. I don't care how useless they are. Someone will like them.

Wow. Paying for mindless propaganda? NO.
I wonder how many people would even READ a magazine in 480p, zooming in, flicking like mad for a nice view.

BTW for neutrality, aww SNAP forget that. NP has the neutrality and trustworthyness like those promotional newsletters companies give away for free online. Not many people like being preached to (with the exception of fanboys.)

At least Future publications are independent from the console company on which they publish their "official" console mags on.

This seems a bit worthless. You know Nintendo won't offer searches or anything. They'll just have adobe files or something easy on their end. I own every Nintendo Power up until basically the end of the N64 era, so this doesn't help me as much as most. I wish I had kept my subscription going just for the collection, but many of my magazines are worn from use and mistreatment anyways.

"I can also paly it on my psp along with every toher genesis, snes, gba (almost), nes, amiga, ps1, atari2600, game ever made and all portbaly on a beutiful screen, and download many hacks from smwcentral and other sites on top of alreadya wesome psp games that imoa re alot better, longer, mroe mature than ds games are, on top of having the abiltiy to watch movies and lsiten to music which is the only thing an ipod cna do that costs like 250 bucks."

and it helps you with your spelling, too!

seriously though - what's the point of comparing something you can get or do illegally with the legal capabilities of a console. sure, if you download ROMs you can get free games. but these companies aren't in the business of piracy.

also, it's not like sony is trying to help you out in that regard - last i heard, they keep trying to update the PSP firmware to keep people from doing half of what you are talking about. the PSP is a sweet looking device, and seemingly a hardware hacker's dream, don't get me wrong... but don't act like Sony wants it to be that way.

also, don't even get into the PSP vs ipod comparision. yes, all an ipod (or zune, or zen, or whatever player brand you like) does is play music (and maybe a video here or there), but those players are legitimately pocket-sized (the PSP is not, unless you have some massive pockets). i can fit my ipod in the breast pocket of a button up work shirt. or clip it easily to my bag strap. i can also sync new music and podcasts to it and have them automatically added to my smart playlists simply by plugging it in to charge. it also has about a 16 hour battery life - great for trips.

While playing Startropics (it'll be on there at some point) you press the home button. You click on the NP channel and look over the maps and realize just how lost you got.

Sounds fine to me.

BTW, the fewer reasons to click on over to Gamefaqs, the better.

I would like a Nintendo Power channel. And I like all the other channels too.

@ #4

While Gamefaqs allows JPGs/BMPs, their philosophy has always been not "everyone has M$ Office" (a little hard to believe in this day in age) and to not allow files and filetypes that can harbor worms and viruses. It makes maintenence easy and loading the content fast, but sometimes it's just satisfying getting a NP mag or strat guide and having beautifully put together maps, diagrams, tables, and pictures complete with captions and color codes

@Hannibal and Gavin-

Nintendo can't control when, how, or which companies make online games for the wii.

I loved Nintendo Power when I was a kid! I would definitely get a Wii if Nintendo did this.

"why would those games not be fun when playing sonmeone online?"

Because those games don't benefit from having a large number of potential advesaries... They are fun games because they're social games, and the social aspect is completely lost when playing games online.

Example: I have Mario Kart DS. I even have a few IRL friends coded in with the friend codes... but I don't play that game half as much as I play Double Dash! And the reason is because I go over to my friends house (or they come over here) and we play some Double Dash, and hang out, and talk about stuff. This is something you can't do online...

Don't even get me started about the uselessness of playing games online against complete strangers...
