My wii was a gamecube for the first time this weekend. Recieved Lego star wars 2 from gameznflix.

I understand why, but it was a small shock to have to use the gamecube memory card to save my game.

thats a good question. i really like the wii. i want one. but they are trying to hard to sell it on backwards compatability and mini game bundles.

nintendo's whole new idea is a new way to play video games right? well start making new ways to play them nintendo! we dont care about the past. if we wanted gamecube games we would have bought a gamecube last gen.

Um...whenever I want to play a Gamecube game?

I've had a Cube since launch but just recently I picked up some old Cube games that I never got a chance to check out. Prime, Chibi Robo, among others... Great gems to be found and the Cube library is full of hidden treasure.

I know you're not suggesting that they should have left backwards compatibility out, are you?

Personally, I've never used mine as a GC, except to see how the disc loaded when I got it. My friend, however, has used it to beat RE4.

The wife is beatin' on me to finish half of the old GC games we never played through. Still gotta finish fire emblem, Eternal Darkness (I know, I know), MP2.

I hate using wii as GC, because after you switch to GC mode, you have to turn it off and turn it back on to get it back into Wii mode. Also, I'd like to be able to use my classic controller on GC games. Is it really so hard to have the wii mode in the backburner to interface with classic controller and the "home" button?

This is my Wii annoyance.

I'm just annoyed at the delay.... I would have it already if it still wasn't pulling $70 at import shops as a dreamcast game.

They didn't need to leave it out, but perhaps they could have made a system with significantly different hardware. System power spawns innovation just as much as user input.

I haven't really used mine as a GameCube yet, but I may try it out this weekend since I want to play Summoner 2 again. My goal is to get around to finishing off some old games I've never beaten. The only real problem with that is coming back to it after so much time.

Being able to play Cube games on the Wii is a pretty good feature in my opinion.

of course thats not what i meant. what i meant to say was that it would be nice for them to focus on some nice original AAA games that use the wiimote well. im just hoping we dont have long droughts like with the GC and they expect us to just fall back on GC titles to keep us entertained.

in the article it said "it'll play in your Wii". im saying if u own a wii its not about pushing old GC titles on us. it should be about delivering the unique experience nintedo promises.

So the question should be put (inaccurately, but funny at least) So how often is your Wii just a Dreamcast?

Radilgy, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Ikaruga, Skies of Arcadia, RE Code Veronica, etc...

The nice thing about using Wii as a Gamecube is I can finally play a lot of games in progressive scan. Not a huge deal, but it does look a bit better. Also, I forgot to get a Christmas present for my sister, so at the last minute I boxed up my Gamecube along with some games and gave her that. Since I no longer have my Gamecube, I NEED that capability in the Wii. Even so... I don't use it as a Gamecube all that much.

I suppose I could have gone around rooting up old GC games, but that's not what I did. I just bought a PS2 (slim silver is all they had) and have been raiding the used game and players choice sections. So far I have Shadow of the Colossus ($20), Stuntman ($4), Gran Turismo 4 ($12), Ape Escape 2 ($10, but the disc prone to freezes during cutscenes), and God of War 1 ($16). Those should last me through the Wii drought and then some...

I never had a GameCube, so now that I have a Wii I picked up Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Gems Collection, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Mega Man X Collection, and Pikmin. Those along with some 5-player TurboGrafx-16 games on the VC can keep me busy until the Wii goes online.

@16

I did the same thing. Well, not quite...I've had a GameCube for a couple years and purchased a Wii at launch. I've been raiding the used GameCube games for awhile, but have always been jealous of all the choices PS2 owners had in comparison. So I bought a slimline PS2 about a month ago to take advantage of that game library.

So far I've picked up GTA San Andreas, Burnout 3, Gran Turismo 4, God of War, and Socom 3, and there are so many more good ones out there to nab for cheap!

I still play PS1 games on my PS2! Probably 25% of my gaming time over the past 6 months has been playing 5+ year old games that I missed when they were new because I didn't have time for gaming when I was in university. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the PS2, it just means that the PS1 had some great games! Likewise, in the case of the Wii, most Wii owners I know never had a GC and want to play the games they missed because they didn't have a GC. If you want to extrapolate any meaning from that, it probably means that the CG had great games and the Wii is expanding it's market to include people that never owned a GC.

I wish they had run GC games on the Wii through their VC emulator, then you could be able to use the home menu, instead of having to stand up to turn the game off

But then again, if they had used an emulator (instead of their being an actual "GameCube" in your Wii), the same problems that some VC games are having
might show up

It has always been a gamecube. Legend of Zelda is a gamecube game, and that's the best game you can play on the Wii.

I envy those that bought an overpriced gamecube. Then again, I don't...

Trauma Center is the best game on Wii. TP is better on GC.
Also, opinions are not at all subjective.

Oh, and I also played some Metroid Prime, another great game.

I swear to God this wasn't the case until a firmware update crippled it or something...I could have swore I remember playing a GC game and using the home button on the Wiimote to get out of it.

Anyhow, assuming it's less than $30.00, I'll probably buy this game when it comes out since I'm a fan of shoot-'em'-ups...if only so I can say I've got the (presumably) last Gamecube game ever made.

I also use my Wii as a Gamecube probably more than I use it as a Wii. Since I bought it, I've picked up a lot of GC games I never owned and should have, like Metroid; as well as a lot of those harder to find games like Beyond Good & Evil (I think it's so-so) and Ikaruga (fuckin' awesome!)
I usually buy games used, anyway, but it's great these days because used GC games are now especially cheap. I picked up 4 for less than $35.00 a few weeks ago.

Demaar:

It's not about opinions. You could think Mobile Suit Gundam for PS3 is the best game ever despite it being utter shit by the critics.

So basically, averaging up all hardcore gamer opinions gives you Zelda as the best game, while Wii Sports gives you the best for casuals. Zelda is a gamecube game in the end, so no reason to get a Wii for it. Wii Sports has N64 graphics, and frankly I wouldn't pay 250 just for that.

After mid January, my GameCube has been in lots of use not playing games I owned, no, games I never got to own because I didn't have money at the time. Now GCN games are in the $20 or less range and that's worth my bill. I do have to say, until my Wii S-Video cable comes in, I will not put away my GameCube. I'm actually thinking of giving it to my sister so when all the new Wii games come out, she doesn't harass me trying to play them. Lemme tell you, girls will play videogames more than guys as long as the game in question is Wii Sports. Gears of War has nothing on that. Heck, Gears doesn't even appeals to most guys.

Game critics, in general, are turning into such disgusting snobs nowadays anyway. Seriously. Only game critics do the following.

Applaud a Japanese RPG for being a Japanese RPG, while bitching about what's wrong with Japanese RPGs.

Bash a game for bland environments even when those environments match the source material or all logic points towards those environments being barren or bland.

Hype a game to incredible heights before a release to drum up ad revenue, just to finally tell us how badly the game sucks three days after it's release.
