Amplitude servers going offline, 'farewell party' Sunday
Before Guitar Hero there was FreQuency. After FreQuency came 2003's sequel Amplitude. Harmonix's Sean Baptiste dropped us a note to let us (let you) know that Sony is pulling the plug on Amplitude's servers this coming Monday, February 26. Baptiste is organizing the final "shindig," currently scheduled for Sunday, February 25, at 7pm EST. All are welcome!Reminder: this will be your last chance to download user-created remixes from the Remix Repository.

Good riddance then, Im sure all 4 of its fans will be disappointed.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I own it. Don't have the network adapter, though, so it's of no consequence to me. Great game. If you haven't played it, you should pick it up out of the bargain bin. You owe it to yourself to see the maiden that spawned Guitar Hero.

id like to know how many people actually still use the online feature for this game.
It has to be asked how long any game server run by companies will last?will they release someway for users to do it themselves? just curious
Patrick @ Feb 20th 2007 9:03PM
thats why xbox live rocks, i can go play the first live game and it will still work
Chalex @ Feb 20th 2007 9:34PM
Hey Patrick go try to play Steel Battalion: Line of Contact (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Battalion:_Line_of_Contact) online and tell me what happens.

Only on Joystiq would an article like this contain comments that bash Playstation.
Amplitude is a great game and it's too bad that the servers are being shut down.
Sean @ Feb 20th 2007 9:52PM
chalex, the link you provided even says:
However, the Free Mission portion of the game is still supported and continues to be popular with LoC players.
So obviously they can still play it online.
sheppy @ Feb 20th 2007 10:55PM
I used to do the online portion in versus, however, I found fun in uploading and downloading the remix tracks.

I've never played this game, but it's a shame they're taking down the servers. Every time the online aspect of a game is pulled, a little piece of gaming history dies. Well, I'm off to play StarCraft on my free Battle.net servers that have been getting updates since 1998.

Thanks for the warning!
I own the game but not the network adapter, but I know someone who does own a network adapter, so I'm going to try to download the remixes this weekend.

It's an issue of no one playing the game online and it being too expensive to keep the server up. It doesn't mean the game is bad (Tondog) it means you didn't play enough online to justify keeping a dedicated server going. By paying for you online experience this in less likely to happen to your game, even if it is a crappy one. I don't want to see any games loose their online function.. it's just too much fun!
So I'm with Justin, it is better to pay for a service like Xbox LIVE than to deal with this. (Not to mention my 'free through LIVE' Gears of War maps totally rule). :)

Most of the times I tried playing against people, I could find, at most, 5 players. Most of them were usually amongst a list of about 20 regulars. The same scenario exists in Twisted Metal Black : Online today. Only the truly dedicated were regulars and it will be sad to watch such a phenominal community go, but time marches on and the internet dreadfully hates the past.

this was a great game. pre-guitar hero, i owned both frequency and amplitude and im sad to see the servers go... i will be there on sunday for the final countdown. probably on shrooms (this game is fantastic on shrooms!)
