I'm annoyed that it comes with the halo 3 beta. I don't care at all about the halo 3 beta, but I want this game. I'm just concerned that I'm not going to be able to find a copy because of all the teenagers buying it just for halo3.

I just picked it up, and it looked like a single copy had yet to be sold. Also, I used a printed off coupon from cheapassgamer.com, and got $10 off from Best Buy. Not too shabby.

Sean what makes you think that the only people buying crackdown for the beta are teenagers? You're ignorance in this case is repulsive and inexcusable. You are a prime example of how narrow-minded our society is these days. Generalizations like yours continue to degrade our culture. Thanks.

My review: Crackdown has a ton of sweet ideas, but isn't executed that well. It needed more mini-games and gameplay variety. You are given more abilities than GTA, yet seemingly fewer ways to carry them out. I like the game and will get good usage out of it, but there is this feeling that it could have been better.

Yeah, the demo is fun, but I honestly wouldn't even think twice about ignoring this game if I wasn't such a huge Halo fan. I don't normally go for these types of games, but luckily, the game IS somewhat good.

hahaha, repulsive and inexcusable? Degrading your culture? Someones a little worked up over nothing. Heres something for you: All teenagers are annoying little shits who don't appreciate a good game when they see one. Also, they ruin online gaming.

You have a 360 and a PS3? How's VF5?

All these rumors about a new 360 SKU are putting me off to buying one until either this summer or this christmas. I want the 65nm processor and the bigger hard drive. PS3 I'll look into in 08.

At any rate, I enjoyed the Crackdown demo. I might pick up the game at some point. Perhaps when it's no longer $60.

The gaming press really is amateurish compared to mainstream media. 1UP said "bulls***" in a review! That's the kind of language I expect in a student newspaper, not a mainstream game site. I'm not offended by the language, I'm embarrassed by it! I'm not expecting "The New Yorker", but some degree of professionalism would be appreciated if we ever expect video games to be taken as seriously as movies.

So, the worst review you could dredge up was a 78%?

Given how scattershot reviews have been lately (when's the last time something didn't get something in the 60s?), I'd say that's a pretty strong endorsement.

@Dolla Dolla

Yes, I have a 360 (just came back from the repair center yesterday, WOOT!) and a PS3, and a Wii (in the repair center... stupid old GC controller shorted out the AC adapter).

As for VF5, no clue. Game ships today. Which means I will likely get the call tomorrow that it's in the store. I was a huge VF4 Evo fan, though. So I expect to enjoy it immensely.

It's probably a good thing about the shipdate anyway. I have to finish up a freelance art job tonight and I don't want to be distracted by martial arts...

@Dapper Dan
I was referring to the rank one achieves as you play more and more with characters on VF5. You go from 10th Kyu to 1st Kyu before upgrading to Dan status, in which rank, you go from 1st Dan to 10th Dan. Aka, I was saying I wanted to fully rank up my favorite video game baldie by the weekend.... although I'm tempted to try ranking one of the new characters.

I got the game Friday and played it all weekend. The coop is incredibly fun. It also has probably the best use of achievements so far..My favorite:Climb the top of the agency tower and then jump off into the pond below for the "high Flyer" and "Base Jumper" achievements...It also has sub achievements where you have to do more than one thing to get the main achievement such as "Stunt driver" where you have to do 4 different stunts...

@Evan...

Actually, I disagree. I think the occasional curse word, provided it doesn't become a dominating factor in the review, just goes to show gaming journalism isn't trying to be mainstream. At the end of the day, what are they reviewing? Games. Interactive games. I don't want gaming media to become bogged with the kind of nonsensical egotism that goes into reviews of other forms of entertainment. I mean, seriously.

On one hand, it would mean we would be taken a little more seriously (until photos are leaked from the next WOW convention... ugh).

On the other hand, we'll have people bitch about Timesplitters for breaking Mise En Scene, camera position issues, and acknowledgement of influences sooo fucking obscure, not even Wikipedia can save you.

Well, yeah. But I have seen games picked over already @ 11 AM, but this doesn't seem to be one of them. I wouldn't worry too terribly much.

Even though this lets you in on the Halo 3 beta, and will no doubt increase sales, I know of more than a few people (myself included) who would prefer the beta is not on there at all. Just because we don't want to spoil ourselves with Halo 3 until the final copy, and having it a button press away with Crackdown is mighty tempting. :p

In my town, Volition is based. So at lunch time, sometimes before, CC, Best Buy, EBGames, among other places on "New shit day" gets flooded by Volitionites. Not to mention some people from my place of work and yes, even college students. By the time local high school students get to stores, it's usually quite picked over. Not necessarily sold out, just picked over.

Patrick, I used to think the same thing when I was 16, and 18, and 21. Now I'm 24, and I can pick an 18 year old out of a crowd of 20-somethings.

You might think you're talking and acting in a manner that makes your age transparent to those around you, but chances are you're not. I don't mean this as insulting, but when I was a teenager, I thought I was all mature and adult like. Now that I actually AM an adult, I know just how wrong I was.

Yes the graphics are obviously greater then anything GTA (so far) but what is this game about? And why did they choose the people they did to do the cover. I know we are supposed to not judge things by the covers but come on. That looks like fusion frenzy crap.

As soon as someone young says something you know they are younger. Usually for one of two if not both. A. Vocal pattern. You don't even have to be vocally trained to pick out the main pitch of someone's voice which is usually a good identifier as to how old they are... Diffinitive difference between pre ball drop and post ball drop. B. The first thing out of their mouth is either so utterly not related to the game and its not just a simple statement like.... "I wear a helmet!!" Its an entire ear splitting littany of how great something is..... or isn't......

Possibly... in fact, more than probable. I haven't VF'd in a long, long, long time (VF4 Evo for about six months) and because of my local friends and their preference to shallow fighter DOA4, I'm quite sure my counter window perceptions have become tragically imbalanced.

Five people in line to get the game when Walmart - the only store in town where you can buy games - opened today. They didn't even put the boxes in the display, just kept them at the counter because they've had so many calls about it this week.

The Halo 3 beta had nothing to do with at least two of the five in line - I only talked to that pair before the store opened. They, along with myself, have been looking forward to this one for quite a while, and doubly so since the demo.

Sean-

I totally agree. I could care less for the Halo 3 beta as well. To be honest, now that I have an invite, I still probably won't DL it or participate. I'd rather just wait for the final product. I would have gladly paid $60 for this game without the beta invite. It's just too bad that all the great sales it will certainly see will be attributed to the fact that it comes with the invite and not that it is an amazing game.

Gamespot was pretty harsh. There's no question all the criticism's against it are completely valid. But its crazy that despite that its probably my favorite game yet on the Xbox (gears of war is done for me).

I love this game and hope we end up with a sequel with the superbosses and maybe a story. I dont even want them to change the engine. Just give us more content and a bigger city. If they play their cards right, this could be a yearly franchise like madden.

The use the word "bullshit" in mainstream media magazines such as Rolling Stone. I'm sure Pauline Kael probably called something bullshit in a review at some point.

I heard about this game before I knew the beta was in it. All I knew was it was a sandbox game with co-op. It slightly interested me.

Then I heard the beta was going to be in it, but I wasn't planning on buying it because 60 dollars for a beta and a game that slightly interested me isn't worth it.

Then I played the demo. To say I enjoyed the demo would be an understatement. The demo was damn right awesome. Got my copy today XD.
