Elite Beat Agents sequel is on (oh yes)

Dengeki Online has today posted Nintendo of Japan's latest release schedule, which includes mention of the long-awaited sequel to -- drum-roll for nervous anticipation -- Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (which was rejigged for the West as Elite Beat Agents). There's no release date mentioned other than a non-specific "during 2007." Four-player action is confirmed, though, as is the new sensation's snappy title: Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Tamashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. Got all that? Quick translation: Burn! Hot-Blooded Rhythm Spirit, Yo! Fight! Cheerleading. Need we say more?

ALH @ Feb 21st 2007 6:08AM
needs to change title to sequel to OUENDAN, because i couldnt give a crap either way about elite beat agents
but ouendan

dekox @ Feb 21st 2007 6:08AM
Please, please, Nintendo, EBA2! This game is amazing!
the godfather @ Feb 21st 2007 6:43AM
i was just reading a thread on gamefaqs about the possibility of a sequel with no sign there. this is great news, as i just beat ready steady go on insane last night :)

OUEN DAI-SEI-KOU!
This is the best news I've heard in a month.
jesus_bon_jovi @ Feb 21st 2007 7:26AM
Ouendan was great.. (even though it broke my touchscreen) Elite Beat Agents.. not so much..
R2P2 @ Feb 21st 2007 7:36AM
Ouendan would probably be a lot more fun if I understood Japanese. EBA FTW
Dusty @ Feb 21st 2007 7:43AM
Ouendan is fun regardless of your ability to understand Japanese. Although Elite Beat Agents was a worthy follow-up, I'm thrilled at the news of a true sequel.
R2P2 @ Feb 21st 2007 8:03AM
I didn't say Ouendan wasn't fun, I said it'd be *more* fun if I knew Japanese. This weekend I finished Ready Steady Go on the second difficulty level, and I'm most of the way through EBA with the Divas.
Demaar @ Feb 21st 2007 8:31AM
I was about ready to pee myself, then I thought "Hang on, what if this is just EBA for Japan?". Then I cried because it's probably just that :(
sheppy @ Feb 21st 2007 9:20AM
The title specifically mentions the chearleaders. Which makes me believe this cannot possibly be the inferior US product. Having said that... it's now time for a wishlist...
DJ Doc
M-Flo
Def Tech
More Blue Hearts
Mad Capsule Markets
...please?
Josh @ Feb 21st 2007 9:37AM
Like already mentioned, this is probably just going to be EBA for Japan.
Luigi193 @ Feb 21st 2007 9:49AM
I agree with #7, best news i've heard all month. I finally beat elite beat agents 2 days ago (that meaning Unlocking Commander Khan and almost getting highest rank...Im 5 star commander, dont no whats above it) and it was my favorite game of 06 IT EVEN BEAT OUT ZELDA! I really want to get the first ouadan, but i don't got enough $ to import it from japan, i wish i could find a copy used! But if there is a sequal in the works, iNis better bring over a eba2! (with livin lavada locka [it was supposed to be in the first one]). EBA didnt sell to well here, but if they bring it over i will but 100k units.

Okay, I'm going to go the non-Wapanese route and say that even though I love both, EBA is a better game hands-down. An Ouendan sequel is pretty cool, though, albeit really weird (didn't the game sell, like, 50,000 copies?). I'll still be picking it up, but the real news will come when EBA2 comes...or, dare I say, Elite Wii Agents? :)
WizarDru @ Feb 21st 2007 10:28AM
"Inferior US product"? Are you HIGH? EBA was a technically better game in multiple ways. You may not have cared for the music selection or perhaps that specific stories...but "Inferior"? Did you miss the various enhancements, like Ghosts, single-card play, being able to skip cut scenes and so forth. Since it was from the same company, it would even be fair to call EBA Ouendan 1.5 with some western customization.
Ouendan, while a good game, only sold 60,000 copies in Japan. Elite Beat Agents sold over 120,000 copies in the use before the holidays, and Ninty had hoped for 300,000 in light of positive reviews. And while EBA's content is much more Western-friendly, it certainly still has it's share of odd Japanese cultural quirks.
idioteraser @ Feb 21st 2007 10:46AM
Luigi if you have a Best Buy around you go there they carry certain Japanese imports and one of them is Ouendan.
MMM the game looks to have sold enough to have merited a sequel or earned enough praise to get one.
It is likely not EBA since they wouldn't translate the game for the same reasons they didn't translate Ouendan for America.
32_Footsteps @ Feb 21st 2007 11:43AM
You know, in terms of quality, the American songs were about the same as the Japanese songs. Most people I've seen who way the music is better in Ouendan are the ones who don't know what the Japanese songs translate to. Morning Musume or Ashlee Simpson, either way a bad move.
Consequently, it wouldn't surprise me to see EBA be popular in Japan because they don't understand half (or most) of the songs, just like many importers here don't know the songs they're listening to.
Still, my sincere hope is that we eventually get the massive uber-cart to rule them all, EBA vs. Ouendan. Commander Kahn couldn't keep me away.

This news makes me a happy panda. :)
Luigi193 @ Feb 21st 2007 11:59AM
Thanks a bunch idioteraser!!! I never knew that! To best buy i go!!! AWAY!
sheppy @ Feb 21st 2007 12:54PM
M-Flo is HILARIOUS...
Actual translated line: "I'll buy you anything, a spaceship that blings..."
How can you not love that stuff? It's obsurd, obscure, and entertaining. Much in the same vein as MC Frontalot and MC Chris.
And no Blue Hearts love? Linda Linda fit the original perfectly. Just my opinion.
some person @ Feb 21st 2007 6:09PM
Some of us want to hear japanese music, I just hope that they release Ouendan in the US, EBA is good, but I would like to play/listen to japanese music (OTO).
david @ May 9th 2007 12:39PM
Elite Beat Agents was the english version to
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan so I'm sure they'll eventually
come out with an english game to Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2.
But it's half the fun when it's in Japanese, I got
mine preorder from Games Asia...oooh yeah baby!

As long as they don't make EBA2 as camp as EBA1 was, I'll be happy. I missed the whole Cromartie High charm of the Ouendan guys. The songs stunk in the first EBA an'all.
My Wishlist for songs:
(1) Sugar-Coated Iceberg - Lightning Seeds
(2) 7Twenty7 - Roxette
(3) We Didn't Start The Fire - Billy Joel
(4) Miami 2017 - Billy Joel (but the much better Richard Marx version)
