No More Heroes to be most violentest Wii game. EVAR!
Take Jackass Johnny Knoxville, make him an anime and Star Wars otaku, give him a lightsaber and martial arts skills, call him an assassin, and then toss the concoction into an open-world game infested with more assassins ... that's the premise for Suda 51's Wii game No More Heroes -- but it doesn't stop there. The Killer 7 developer has proposed a particularly un-Wii-like challenge for his Grasshopper team: "make No More Heroes as violent, or even more violent than Manhunt 2!"And afterwards? Well, there's that secret "Project S" collabo with Kojima (a Snatcher sequel?) that's been floating under the radar; and, as Suda reveals, there's interest in developing for Xbox 360. "I want to develop games for Xbox 360 as soon as possible. In fact, I am planning the next project for Xbox 360," says Suda. "As for PS3, I don't have enough materials/topics to comment on this because there is only a small chance for us to develop for the console at this point in time." Small chance? Why's that?

I mantain that this game has one of the most hilariously awesome premises ever. The art style isn't too bad, either.

Ooooo..another shot at the PS3. Nice.

The main guy, Travis Touchdown, wins a light saber on an internet auction, and then kills a guy named Helter Skelter, and becomes the world's 11th greatest assassin. Now he must (obviously) kill the 10 greatest assassins, while collecting awesome outfits and cruising around on his motorcycle. This is the best plot ever.
I just picked up Killer7 used for $9 and I'm playing through it right now, so I looked up this Suda 51 character on Wikipedia, and it says his favorite game is Out of this World. Anybody who calls Out of this World their favorite game is a developer who I'll follow to the ends of the earth. That's one of the greatest games in the universe. I highly recommend it to anybody, but I must warn you that it's got the kind of difficulty that can make you smash a TV.

A little late to the party Joystiq, but I'll throw you guys a bone 'cause I love each and every one of you. Plus, you guys are my only source of gaming news while I'm at school. :-D
And I'm buying this game, just because of Suda Five-One and their support of the late 'cube. Killer 7 was certainly different, and that's what we need to encourage in developers.
B33 @ Feb 21st 2007 8:24PM
$5 says they port their 360 title onto the PS3.
And those PS3 shots are getting old. We get it, it's expensive and not worth it right now. We don't need some schmo to say it over and over again.
NintendoFanbot @ Feb 21st 2007 8:27PM
The ONE THING I've never seen in a game featuring lightsaber-esque concepts is maiming. Not even Star Wars is true to the source material in that regard. :P
penas @ Feb 21st 2007 8:28PM
HELTER SKELTER FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HOPE HE DOESNT DIE RIGHT OFF THE BAT!

Probably because it won't be on the market much longer. Oh burn!!! I kid, I kid. I kid because I love.

Not really, we know that in Star Wars technology exists to create lifelike artificial limbs. Luke had his hand replaced, Vader had his arms and legs replaced..
(Ok, if you want a game which actually shows that replacement, Lego Star Wars Original Trilogy)
SKI @ Feb 21st 2007 8:56PM
Sweet, sounds awesome. I will be getting this as soon as it comes out. So much for the "kiddy" brand people have been trying to give the Wii.
NintendoFanbot @ Feb 21st 2007 9:02PM
@ Psykaarn
LOL I forgot Lego Star Wars. Love 'em. :P
But really, even in Battlefront II, where you can mow Stormtroopers by the dozen by throwing your saber, you don't see limbs get destroyed. Not even with Droids. Of course maybe you'd get the ones supported by the canon and such but never hapless NPCs that cross your path. :P
Rubang B @ Feb 21st 2007 9:06PM
Sadly, Travis Touchdown has already killed Helter Skelter in the TRAILER, so he won't be lasting long.
Mr Khan @ Feb 21st 2007 9:39PM
I can't stop laughing at the names this guy comes up with
The location of the game is a city called "Santa Destroy"
It doesn't end, if it's possible to work this into my buying schedule, i will
Larry @ Feb 21st 2007 9:43PM
Please, oh, please give us a 360 remake or sequal or SNATCHER. PLEASE!?
SSBftw @ Feb 21st 2007 10:33PM
Why are they trying to make a game more violent than manhunt? I don't think that even made the list of most violent games ever. They should try to make it at least as violent as pac-man...that's one bad dude.
p.s. lightsaber games are cool...period
Shibathedog @ Feb 21st 2007 11:12PM
AHHHH I NEED A WII!!!!
Everyone stop buying them so i can find one for sale and get one. I demand it.

Also just remembered, The Jedi Knight series also does allow limb severing (though you can't cut off people's heads or slice their torsos in 2, sadly).
Maybe some games do not have it programmed, but you can't say all. What I've never seen though, is a game which allows you to do more gruesome multiliations, like opening up stomachs and slicing up a head in 2. Perhaps this would be the first?
(but seriously, it's hard enough to make a game more violent than Killer 7, even if those creatures are not quite human..)
Eric @ Feb 21st 2007 11:34PM
This is older than my grandmother, and she's 70.

Killer 7 =
NintendoFanbot @ Feb 21st 2007 11:46PM
@ Psykaarn
Fair enough.
I only bring it up because it's a fairly uncommon form of violence, especially for a game with swords meant for slicing. :D

I believe violent not in terms of gore but in feeling.
Manhunt was banned in several countries due to it's content and subject matter recall.
You should look at how violent is determined. It isn't your defination that Suda 51 is going by.
jaysins @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:51AM
It's good to see developers going against what many people normally regard as wii games and slapping some mature content on the console. Mixes things up and stabbing a character with a wiimote kind of sounds fun. Nice to see the wii starting to diversify so well.
Mikeo @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:27AM
Gore and violence doesn't sell on its own. Postal didn't, at least.
What most people fail to notice is that GTA, unlike many of its clones, had a great storyline and presentation which was essential to its success. Mindless fun stopped being fun when there is not much point in it. When there is no real meaning to progression.
At least Suda 51 should try make the storyline logical and not IQ 50-ish. But oh well, by the looks they won't; And most Wii users would still get it just because it's violent.
NintendoFanbot @ Feb 22nd 2007 5:03AM
I don't care about the level of violence. I'm just saying it might be more natural resulting from sword fights and etc..
Obviously violence wouldn't be the game's primary selling point. Speaking of which...
I enjoy playing MK than dancing in the rain... of BLOOD.

Yes, but most violence tends to be plain, simple violence, whereas the violence in Killer 7 fits directly into it's art style. From what we've seen, No More Heroes appears to be stylistic similar to Killer 7.
D @ Feb 22nd 2007 10:02AM
cool concept - Looking forward to it! As for the PS3 shot, I'm sure he'll eat those words someday - a lot of people talked trash about the PS2 and it's still outselling the XBOX 360 in Japan - doesn't say much for that PC port console. heh heh.. oh wait, I have to add the "I kid, I kid" comment to make it okay to say that and make me not sound like a fanboy.
Long live the Ring of Death! lol...
ssuk @ Feb 22nd 2007 12:43PM
Hahaha, at the Sony fans. Just, hahahaha. Delude yourselfs any more and you'll think you're in a world of pink ponies, little green men and unicorns.
cyberfrog @ Feb 22nd 2007 2:11PM
As mentioned above, the jedi knight series had maiming. Also, you could shoot off limbs and carve faces in soldier of fortune.
Mikeo @ Feb 23rd 2007 3:09AM
Psaakryn:
Gears of War had a much more rational storyline than this. It's the wackiness that annoys me. Martial arts and lightsaber? It pretty much sounds like you could throw away all plot and the game would still be the same.
Really, if that's what devs have to come up for "mature" Wii games, they DO have a long way to go. Perhaps 10 more years.
