Panel de Pon DS announced

Panel de Pon, aka Tetris Attack aka Panel de Pon, is a game we've loved in many guises. We loved it on the Super Famicom, with its fairies and pixie music (nothing to do with Frank Black); we loved it on the SNES, when it became Tetris Attack; and we even flirted with the GBA version in Nintendo Puzzle League. What we really need now is more Panel de Pon -- and according to Nintendo's latest release schedule, we're going to get just that. The Japanese version of Panel de Pon DS lands on April 26, with wi-fi multiplayer and -- as seen in these screens -- some very funky backgrounds. No news of a Western release as yet, but we can't imagine why it would be a Japanese exclusive.

This was my absolute favorite SNES game of all time. One of the best puzzlers, period. I've been dying for a true GBA or DS port. This had better come to North America, and damn quick.

cool cool.
but cool enough for half a post all in italics??
hahahaha
italics or not,
groovy news.

I love italics!!! Please, don't close those tags!

Oh yes.
This + Tetris DS = excellence :)

I'm really hyped for this as well, but it seems like the game is played holding the DS on its side. I hope this doesn't mean stylus-only controls.
IGN reports voice chat will be included, which is a definite plus. And I'll miss the Yoshi's Island theme of the original Tetris Attack, but I'll deal.
Now we wait for U.S. release date. Grrrrr...

Oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man!
This is the best puzzle game ever. Possibly the greatest game ever. I played Tetris Attack for about 7 years straight through high school and college. I have been waiting for a decent portable version of this game forever, and no Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for the gameboy color doesn't count. The vertical alignment of the DS screen is perfect for this game.

sorry grunge.
italics have been annihilated...

Wait, is this a game where the DS is held sideways, like Brain Age or Hotel Dusk? It looks like you have the players screen on the right and the CPU screen on the left. If this is the case, I wonder how the controls work... Does it use the touch screen to move the cursor and the d-pad to swap pieces? AArgh! So many questions!

pokemoooooon puzzle leaaaaague :D

This is what's known as "an instant win."

Looks like I'll still be waiting for Tetris Attack to come out on the VC. Blargg FTW!!

i hope they programmed in the "slow down" when there are too much stuff on screen ... that's the only time i can make my moves.

"Panel de Pon, aka Tetris Attack aka Panel de Pon..."
I'm guessing instead of a second "Panel de Pon," you meant "Puzzle League?" :P
And, you're misinformed about the GBA version's title. It was just "Puzzle League," not "Nintendo Puzzle League." It was a dual-game Game Pak, bundled with Dr. Mario as well.
Sadly, that GBA version was pretty bare bones. Lacked Single-Pak multiplayer, Puzzle League lacked ANY sort of presentation (Yoshi, Pokémon, those fairies... ANYTHING would've been better!).
Dr. Mario lacked most of the additions Dr. Mario 64 introduced to the game (the silly puzzle mode and the cool 4-player mode).
While Wi-Fi Connection support alone makes Panel de Pon DS a must-have, I really hope they give it some life, beyond a Meteos-/Lumines-like series of "skins."

I've already had this game on my DS as a homebrew port of the SNES tetris attack for months. It's pretty sweet
