(Wired) Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver hits retail
It might not be the daintiest of dongles, but Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver gets the job done. It's been spotted out in the wild for months now, but today it's officially here -- on retail shelves. $20 will score your PC some quality time with Microsoft's wireless Xbox 360 peripherals; for $60, you'll get the receiver, plus a wireless controller. All 'Games for Window' branded games natively support 360 accessories. The controller can also be used to navigate Windows Media Center; the headset for VoIPin'.

Id rather use my mouse and kb instead of my 360 controller

It officially came out at the beginning of the month, on the 9th. That's when GameStop got them in, anyway.

you do realise that i can now use my forcefeedback steering wheel, wireless controllers and headsets on my computer.
which is awesome, playing emulated console games with the 360 controller, my racing sim games on my pc and xbox360 with the same wheel. GG microsoft, great idea :)

Are we sure it will work with Media Center?
My wired 360 controller doesn't work with it; oddly enough I tried that this afternoon.

Just one question to those that have it already. My computer is relativly close to my 360. The Xbox is in my living room on the first floor and my computer is directly above it on the second. When I turn on the controller to use on my computer..will it also end up turning on my 360? This could be a deal breaker for me...anyone?

The price is insane. I just picked a Logitech Cordless Rumble Pad (a near perfect Dual Shcok clone) for $30. It's great (very comfortable and sturdy construction) and half the price. It may not work w/ Media Center (never tried, might be a hack or something), but Media Portal is fine for me. I'm not anti-MS or anything, but damn... their profit margins on these must be great. And yes, Nintendo and Sony rape consumers as well with their controller prices.

Cloning the dual shock is not a good achievement.
Remember, you can use the 360 controller for both the psc and the 360.

Nope, it was pure conjecture!
I'm hoping MS catches on to Logitech's idea where you can bind Thumb2 to the Mouse X/Y axis. Makes it useful.

Rom, The controller links with the receiver, just like the 360. You link it with the little button on the top of the controller. If you plan on using the same controller, you'll have to relink it between the 360 and PC each time switch between the two.

Hmm, I wish that MS was as open as taking ideas to heart for all products as they are about the X360 OS and feature set :)
I'd like to see a lot of things work differently, and I've always hated the static configuration Windows pukes out (even in Vista) for a joypad/Gaming Controller. Like, honestly we still can't map axis and buttons in Windows yet? sigh!@

I got it a week ago, works great in XP. I'm serious, WONDERFULLY. But Vista.. I have some problems.
AirIntake @ Feb 22nd 2007 10:06AM
There is one HUGE flaw with the receiver (which I bought last weekend). The triggers both get mapped to the 'Z' axis, with the left trigger increasing Z from 0 and the right trigger decreasing Z from 0. When you pull both at the same time, they cancel out. This means that you cannot use both triggers at the same time! This makes them completely useless for racing games, and damn near anything else that requires the use of two triggers. This problem also existed with the wired controller, however, the XBCD drivers that map the triggers to separate axis on the wired controller do not work with the wireless receiver yet.

Yay, now I finally have a use for the wireless 360 controller I have collecting dust...I forgot to sell it when I sold me console haha..

Can anyone tell me if this will allow me to use my X360 wireless headset with my PS3?
Kingshuk Biswas @ Feb 24th 2007 8:39AM
