Prince of Persia could be Disney's next 'Pirates' film franchise
Murmurs of a Jerry Bruckheimer produced Prince of Persia film have resurfaced, buzzing about Bruckheimer and Disney working to mold Ubisoft's game franchise into a successor to the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy; set to conclude in May. One source even speculates that the Prince could hit the big screen as early as summer 2008.When Bruckheimer and company first seized the Prince of Persia film rights in 2004, the goal was to adapt elements of the game world, rather than directly translate 2003's The Sands of Time. It's unclear if that direction has since changed, as the game series has evolved into a port-able trilogy.

Will Johnny Depp be starring again?
brandon @ Feb 22nd 2007 11:35PM
This game isn't terrifically violent, but as it is, still not Disney material. It'll be quite toned down. Now the second one... no where near Disney material.
Tim @ Feb 22nd 2007 11:49PM
@brandon
If it's too violent, they'll just release it under the Touchstone Pictures name. That's what Disney does with all of the films to violent for the magical castle it wants to realease. (See: Apocolypto)

i've been saying it for years, the prince looks ridiculously similar to leo dicaprio. they even have the same build, more or less.
Goldrush @ Feb 23rd 2007 12:12AM
I'm glad that it's under Disney. This way, there's a better chance it'll adopt the more fantastical and less violent atmosphere of the first game.

Yeah, but the Prince is an athletic Middle Eastern guy with blue eyes. Leo, while a remarkably good actor with roughly the same body type, just doesn't have the physicality.

you really should think before you speak (or write).

Well Disney always wants to do 6 PotC movies and at least 4 National Tressure movies so why not?
And PotC only made money because people love Johnny Depp. PoP will never come close. If they don't cast it just right I will be amazed if the movie gets one sequel.

Are you a fu**ing idiot? Pirates 1 would've made tons of money EVEN WITHOUT Johnny Depp. Take out all the "funny crap" that Depp brought, and I'd still watch it, although I hated Pirates 2. Don't make such blind and stupid comments, you make it sound like without Johnny Depp Pirates 1 would've gotten 1 star and only made 300 dollars. Its true Johnny Depp made the movie hella more successful, but even without him, it woulda done nicely, to warrant the sequel that was made.
Demaar @ Feb 23rd 2007 3:22AM
Eh, Pirates was entertaining, but Johnny and Geoffrey gave the characters the personalities that made it so memorable.
I don't think it'd be half as successful without them in it.
ben @ Feb 23rd 2007 4:26AM
if bruckheimer's involved it'll beamazing, and since he owns the rights i dont see how he couldn't :)
Ocho @ Feb 23rd 2007 10:41AM
I can't wait until the movie comes out on DVD so I can use my Remote of Time to magically manipulate the flow of time itself.
Cook @ Feb 23rd 2007 12:14PM
I'm sorry, but the only person I can think of to make the prince even close to as incredible as he is in the game would be Tony Jaa. It would be fantastic!
Ethan @ Feb 23rd 2007 12:23PM
Tony Jaa for the Prince! He is the only man who can pull the prince of with the weight and reality needed for the screen.
Leobebes @ Feb 23rd 2007 12:27PM
Bruckheimer is a hack. You know its Bruckheimer when every other scene is in slow motion followed by an explosion.
Craigo @ Feb 23rd 2007 1:31PM
I have no idea if he can actually act, but I thought this guy looked a lot like the Prince when I saw Goblet of Fire.
And I'm sure there are talented yet unknown Middle Easternish actors out there. I just can't wait to see what Bollywood hottie would be cast as Farah.

Oops. forgot to add this. http://imdb.com/name/nm1670700/

Wonderful. More fuel to the jihadist fire.
David @ Feb 23rd 2007 4:14PM
Obviously PotC would have made more than $300 you dumbass but without Johny Depp the movie would have only done ok. Most knew about the film because Depp was in it, without that there would not be any sequels. Plus without him you would have had a movie that looked great but didn't have a good story and was rather blah. Kind of like the Star Wars prequels.
