Can we have a second opinion for Beyond Oasis, anyone?

p.s. Sonic Spinball is probably the greatest pinball video game around. That said, 8 bucks is probably still too much :P.

"In the grand tradition of Xbox Live Arcade having one title announced, here comes the competition with four announcements in one."

MS take note! The competition is here and you can no longer jerk the consumer along with your lame 1 title a week (lately 1 a month) releases. I was hoping MS would be setting the bar instead of stumbling over it like they are now.. People were trying to get Sega to publish some stuff on the XBLA for over a year but it looks like they are working with Nintendo instead..

VC > XBLA

And this is coming from someone who doesn't like Nintendo or the Wii..

btw - Sonic Spinball is fun stuff.

Not sure why anyone would pay for these. You can grab the roms and play on emulators easily enough -- and they certainly don't hold up on a big TV.

At least when XBLA ships old crap they update it.

I was a big fan of vectorman, and spent many an hour trying to make any measurable progress in sonic spinball. Never really got the hang of it. I'm ashamed to say it was the only Sonic game I ever owned, unless you count Sonic 1 in the VC. What's with the disrespect?

Cloincidentally nothin! You'll see the VC and Gametap libraries (from sega) become identical as time goes by.

Sega is whoring out sonic and crazy taxy and everything they can to everybody these days.

Sword of Vermillion had one of the coolest Genesis ads ever back when it came out.

Sega used to run these four page ads where page one would be the teaser, then you turn to page 2-3 where there's a HUGE screenshot of whatever game they were pushing, with text that gave you the rundown of the game with a bunch of smaller promos for other stuff around it. The fourth page would just be small screenshots of a couple dozen other games for the system. The SoV 2-page spread photo in the ad had some enormous orange-ish dragon from an in-game shot. I had no idea what the hell it was, but it made me want to play it.

Sword of Vermillion was cool, kind of hard and a little boring but a very rewarding RPG experience.

Anyone remember the name of that Dungeon Crawler on the Genesis? My brother and I have been racking our brains for the past six months and we cannot think of that title. Very cartoony RPG, you started in a town and went into the dungeon deeper and deeper as you advanced in levels. You started out with two other characters, a fat-male healer and a skinny-female magician.

Help me out, please!

Jared,

I think you can see most people don't think Sonic Spinball and Vectorman sucked. In fact, VMan is often considered among one of the best looking, most original games for Genesis.

As for Spinball, that game KICKED ASS. In fact, it was the only Sonic game I found remotely hard as a child, and I only ever beat it once, even though I played it as much as the other Sonic games.

It had brilliant animations, made Pinball fun, and the ENDING ROCKED YOUR SOCKS.

IMO Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is the real stinker-that-Sega-ports-to-everything-for-no-reason.

Vectorman was a great game on the first play through. It's not something I spent much time playing after that, though. I mean, it was a great title, don't get me wrong, but once I finished it, and then played a couple more times via warps, and tried to get a few secret passages and bonuses (no photon bonus anyone?) That was it. I lost interest fast. Amazing looking game though.

I too, had Legend of Oasis, but I enjoyed it. I always wanted to play Beyond Oasis, so perhaps I'll get it now.

I have Sonic Spinball on my mega collection, so I'll pass.

Can we get Streets of Rage already? Pretty please? Oh, Shining Force would be cool too.

I know this is a bit unrelated, but with the XBLA/VC comparisons going on, there is one thing that will annoy me. XBLA includes something that VC doesn't just in name alone: Arcade. Basically, if the game didn't appear on a console, forget it. No Simpsons arcade, Xmen arcade, Turtles In Time (the REAL one, not the SNES port), when we get Street Fighter and MK titles, they'll be SNES copies, not arcade perfect reproductions. It's a bit of a disappointment, even if just a minor one. I was sad to know that my Street Fighter II wasn't arcade perfect, but rather, SNES perfect. Ah well.

Nope, it wasn't Sega CD. Played all the Phantasy Star games (II thru IV) on the Genesis.

Not Landstalker, nor Sword of Vermillion.

It was similar looking to Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System when you were tunnel walking, but obviously with better looking tunnels. The walls would change after going down a couple of levels. I never beat the game and it really did not have a story, but the graphics were great for a 16-bit generation game. It doens't stick out in my mind because of the lack of story. Just a dungeon crawler, and no one seems to remember it (cept for my bro, me and a friend we used to game with).

I need to search more at home, my fucking office blocks those sites.

I am gonna do that!!!! If I find it, I will repost.

Thanks RYAN for your help though!!!

I agree with everyone else, I love Spinball and Vectorman. I haven't played the other two, but hopefully this is my chance to do so. I never owned a Genesis, so I missed out on a whole lot of titles. I only got to play the Genesis while at my friend's house.

I think Nintendo should put these titles up a day early here in the states and call it,"SEGA Sunday."

Phil is definitely thinking of Shining in the Darkness, although the next game, Shining Force, and its many sequels, were much more well known. I owned both, but never was able to beat the former.

Back on-topic, I owned Sonic Spinball and Sword of Vermillion as well. I sort of enjoyed Spinball--made it to the final boss a few times but never beat it, sadly. But Vermillion was great...I played through the entire game at least twice. I don't think I'd buy it again, but those who have never played it and enjoy action-RPGs might want to give it a look.

Well You have to remember that XBLA is also having NEW and ORIGINAL games being developed alongside Midway's "classics". What does Nintendo and Sega have to do? Pick a rom of their old games that they've already re-released 4 times and slap it into Nintendo's emulators?

Sword of Vermillion was a great game. It had a good, though typical, story and a different type of combat system for the time. The game had a lot going for it if you gave it a chance.

Phil -- here is your game:

Shining in the darkness was just ok. Needed more party members, more towns, different dungeons. I guess it just needed more

I'm glad to see these Sega Genesis games come out for the Virtual Console, and I know more will come, especially sequels, but I want forgotten games like Eternal Champions, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Phantasy Star IV, Shinobi, Shining Force, Wonder Boy, and (hopefully) Sega's two X-Men games that were on the Genesis.

I bought Beyond Oasis on ebay last year or so for like 40$ it was definately worth it, (well since the copy I rented got stolen from the rental store). I would definately pay 8$ for it, that being said, I don't plan on getting a Wii.

Vectorman was pretty sweet, I remember all the press about its 3d graphics, and it did look amazing, Sonic Spinball was good too, but it was just a pinball game, nothing special.

if they can bring me Earthworm Jim, I would be a happy camper!
