Codemasters adds a 'Rainbow' to Bubble Bobble replacements
Were you affected by the Bubble Bobble Revolution recall? Of course you weren't -- you didn't buy a game that was known to be broken: "The game is so broken that it isn't worth purchasing. Do not support sloppy game making. Do not buy this game" (Digital Entertainment News). Did you?Apparently some did. Now, five months later the fixed replacements are shipping out. And guess what? Codemasters has packed a tiny Rainbow into every box. Aw, how thoughtful... (too bad it's rubbish -- but it's all the team had).
Was that too harsh? Yeah, probably. Um, well, then let's just say this was indeed a kind gesture -- and leave it at that. Anyone else care to make nice? We're looking at you two, Microsoft and Treyarch.

Regardless of the quality of the free game, that's still an incredibly stand-up move on Codemasters' part. It certainly makes me want to support them in the future and give games they put out more of a chance than I would have previously.

I was really looking forward to this game. I love BB and thought it would be really hard to screw it up.
Guess i was wrong :(

Yeah, that was too harsh for sure. Name for me 5 other game developers who have done something even remotely similar in the past few years. I bet you can't come up with any; at least I haven't been able to...
Regardless of the quality of the extra game, it's a very kind gesture, and a bigger apology than we'll ever see for most of the screw-ups we encounter. Kudos to codemasters for doing this, just ignore the too-jaded-for-their-own-good bloggers guys!

Atari should be so kind to the thousands of people it's currently cheating over downloadable content and patches for Test Drive Unlimited on the 360. They advertised "monthly downloadable car packs", but have only put out three packs. Most of the cars in these packs are just rehashes anyhow. One of the latest fiascos involves the Atari forum's moderators telling people they had to buy a car pack to get a new driving physics mode (known as "hardcore mode"). Now they've decided to recant and say that we'll have to pay for the new mode (which was initially promised by December or January) even though loads of people purchased the car pack. Now they say it's going to be March before we get anything. Why doesn't Joystiq do a story on this bit? I'd be happy to give any information you guys need!

To #4: WTF does this have to do with the initial post? If you were dumbass enough to buy something thinking you would get something else NOT ACTUALLY PROMISED with the initial purchase, that is nobody's fault but your own. Not releasing additional content is not even remotely the same as the initial game release not functioning. The fact that they are giving people a free game, even if it sucks, is awesome. And as for you, TDU is a great game. Possibly the greatest driving game ever made. It only cost $40 out of the gate. Quit f'ing bitching and enjoy the game. Try actually reading the descriptions of the downloadable content instead of what mods on a message board say. Guess what? They don't make the game. They don't control the content. THEY MODERATE THE F'ING MESSAGE BOARDS. If the issue is beyond the scope of a message board, than it's out of their control or direct knowledge.

I'm going to buy a defective copy of this now for the sole purpose of sending it back to Codemasters and getting a free rainbow in return.

I bought this game back a while ago without knowing of its fatal flaw..but codemasters did say they would fix it. and the other day I received my new game, and the freebie just like they said I would. They didnt require sending the old game back, and all in all im very happy with their efforts.
The game that was free may not be the best, but what other company would give you anything for free? I think they did a great job of fixing their screw up.

This phenomenal and inspiring rainbow pack-in doesn't surprise me. Back in the NES days there were a handful of legendary, unbeatable games--such as RYGAR. CODEMASTERS was actually able to capture, mass produce, and box a 'GAME GENIE' which granted you three wishes to conquer even the most tortuous of 8-bit trials!
