Wow. What the frack did EA do to Wing Commander? Arena is a joke.

When word broke that EA was preparing to resurrect Origin's classic franchise after nearly a decade-long hiatus, fans were understandably thrilled. Uhh, guys, I don't know if anybody else knows this, but EA isn't actually developing this game, Gaia Industries based in NYC are doing the development work. We sent a team up there to do a preview for their Spring Release: Street Trace NYC and it looks to be an amazing XBLA title, http://www.360-hq.com/article-1420--0-0.html. Anyways I just wanted to clear that up a bit. This doesn't look too bad for a game, but definitely doesn't look like the original at all. More of the FASA Shadowrun naming stuff I think. Not true to the name, but still a good game nevertheless.

Honestly, it looks like it has the potential to be a fun little casual timewaster, but Wing Commander it is not. Have any of you played the cute little platform game that came with Half-Life 2 (Project Freeman, I think it was called). It was a silly little timewaster as well, a 2D platform game with Half-Life trappings. It was inoffensive, but nobody would have paid money for it.

The game above is the Wing Commander equivalent of Project Freeman.
