Interesting that everyone ignored Chris @ #11 who apparently lives there and pointed out that higher prices are just the way it is.

It's also $400 for a Wii there.
#28 also mentions higher prices for Denmark. $440 for a Wii.

So when everything is more expensive, a ps3 is more expensive? I guess it falls under the category of "everything". Who would have thought?

Didn't the Sony privateers, erm.. marketers in Australia say something else inflammatory recently?

I said it before, I'll say it again. David Jaffe needs to become Sonys Reggie. Get rid of Tretton, get rid of this jerk, Phil can stay because, even though he's a pie in the sky kind of guy, he still shoots straight when he has to and he doesn't "reak" of snobbitude like some of the others. But yeah, get David Jaffe in the front, ASAP.

You should have used the Ken pic with the huge PS3, but it was a nice effort nonetheless.

What a trainwreck.

WAIT isn't it region free? So they don't really got to do anything but change the menu's to...Wait they speak english...WHY THE INCREASED PRICE? It seems like less work to port from the US to Aust. then Japan to the US...Strange...

I wouldn't buy one here OR there.

This is insane considering that I live in Singapore and we're getting the wii for 799 SGD, which is roughly about the same in aussie dollars, give or take 40 bucks. And we've got a population of 3+ million. Why is there so much of a price difference??

yet nobody says jack when the 360 costs a equiv of 3,000 US dollars in Brazil.

It's gotten to the point where the hunger for Sony dirt has far blinded the ability to be convincing in any way.

There needs to be contrast to make this story make sense to anybody other than Fanboys.

"And when you've adjusted that article to be fair. Why not post a BIG ARTICLE about how the WII is a rip off in Denmark and say how Its almost as much as an Xbox 360 Premium here in some places. No? Thought not. Carry on with the PS3 bashing. Its becoming quite boring."

People like this annoy me. I never wanted to flat out tell someone to shut up and explain to them how they do not deserve the right to free speech before, but I feel I have to in this case.

Shut up.

When Nintendo or Microsoft make a statement as illogical as the one Sony has about why the prices are expensive and Joystiq does NOT post anything about it, then you have room to talk.

Joystiq puts up articles about the Wii and the 360 in a bad light all the time. People such as yourself just seem intent on ignoring that. Off the top of my head I remember them bashing the 360 about its weak Live releases and the Wii's shortage of actual Wii games.

If you want to blame Joystiq of 'PS3 bashing', consider this. Joystiq wouldn't have anything to bash Sony with if Sony wasn't actually screwing up, or not selling well. By you saying that Joystiq has it out for the PS3, you're asking them not to report anything bad about the PS3. If you want to live in that jaded perception of reality, fine, but don't get bent out of shape when a blog news site about video games adds a punchline or two to Sony's misfortune.

Oh, and shut up.

@Denmark dude

Haha I love it how the DS Lite is more expensive than the PSP, and the Wii is more expensive than the Core Xbox 360 and in "some places" only a little less than the Xbox 360.

Obviously shows that Nintendo products have more value xD

Also I've heard the price for the PS3 in brazil will be OFF THE CHARTS, with a Wii being like $1500 and Xbox 360 $3000, you can bet your ass the PS3 will be... 4500$! HOLY SHIT! Poor brazilians are getting it up the ass... flying to the USA, buying your electronics there, and going back is cheaper xD

(Those are not Brazilian currencies, but actual US dollars!)

I am very good friends with a games retailer and she has been told by sont that Europe, Russia and Australia will only recieve 1 Million Units.

That is not not alot of consoles for the amount of gamers in these regions. She told me she had 200 Preorders of the console prior to christmas (When it was Supposed to be released) but when SONY pushed back the release date everyone pulled their preorders and bought a 360.

As it stands now she has only 20 Preorders for the PS3 with less than a month till release. Could this spell the end of Playstations dominance in Australia??? Here's hoping.

"20. ""We have to realize that we live in a country with 22 million people, and the US supplies product to 300 million, which creates very different business dynamics," said Michael Ephraim, Sony's Australia and New Zealand managing director."

What the hell kind of bullshit, half-witted logic IS this?!

-Samfish"

It's SONY logic.

I agree with poster 11, there is such a thing as economies of scale which I wouldn't expect anyone intent on bashing Sony at all costs to understand. Aussies generally pay more for electronic goods, cars, whitegoods, you name it compared to US consumers. We are a small population, relatively isolated and logistics and distribution when goods do arrive here add to cost. Having said that I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, the lifestyle is great.

I think the PS3 is probably a little overpriced, but we are a wealthy country (sorry that $18000 avge income in complete garbage) and many people think nothing of blowing $5k on a big screen plasma...I am sure the PS3 will again be a success once a decent range of games is available, which will happen. For what it's worth I have a XBox and will probably get a PS3 later this year, after all it looks like Blu Ray will win the format war. But PS3 dominance will be less than before, and competition is a good thing.
