Personally, I think I am just going to get the Ocarina of Time remake for the Gamecube. That way, I can move it from system to system. Any downsides to my plan?

I have been waiting since Wii the opening of VC for Ocarina of Time. I want to play it again, but I never had a gamecube. Now I don't have to buy gamecube controllers, a gamecube memory card, and the gamecube disk.

If you do the math, OoT Master Quest runs about $30, a wavebird is around $35, and a memory card would run me $10-20. That is almost $80 for a single N64 game. I will happily pay $10 for OoT.

I hope there aren't any problems like there were for MarioKart 64

Germ - if the price is right, I say get the disc.

For 1000 Wii Points, I'm excited. There were rumors of 1200 at one point. Granted, I'm in the US, but it's only a matter of time (no pun intended, really) before Ocarina of Time is out here as well. I'm guessing Monday.

I won't be getting Ocarina of Time. I already have two copies I got for free(MQ bonus disk with Wind Waker, Collector's Edition by trading in some Stars on NoE's site) and I feel no need to start over again with the lack of rumble.

Instead, I got Kid Icarus and I'm enjoying it.

According to the wikipedia (should that be wiikipedia), Oot Master Quest ran in emulation on the GameCube and had certain emulation problems

"There were a few setbacks in the Nintendo GameCube version. Since the game was not truly ported in the technical sense, (as in being altered and optimized for the console in question) but merely running under emulation, there were some minor inaccuracies in the presentation of both Ocarina of Time and Master Quest due to flaws in Nintendo's emulator. [citation needed] For example, the controls are not as tight or responsive as they were in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Also, certain sound effects were altered, most notably the chanting in the background music of the Fire Temple which was replaced by a vocal midi instrument."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time_Master_Quest

I have not played it on either the orignal console or the GC (what a noob). Any comments from those that have played it on the GC? I assume the emulation issues that the wikipedia talked about are probably not going to be an issue as a)the wii has a some extra horsepower behind it than the GC (despite the people that say it is just a repackaged GC), and b) Nintendo has now built up a bit of emulation experience.

I'm going to buy a classic controler right now and downloading it! I had a N64 but never bought Zelda OoT, so i'm doing it now. I think it'll be one of the few games worth the 1000 points price.

Anyone who buys this game having already owned a GC edition is proof that Nintendo fans are the blindest, foolhardy, fans on the planet.

Don,

I have recently played MasterQuest and while I can't speak for the music in the Fire Temple (I didn't notice anything), I can say that the rest of the gameplay was perfect. In fact, the only difference that I did notice was that the graphics appeared to be enhanced and made the game look just that much more beautiful.
Also, as far as the controls, they were actually more sensitive (with the exception of the L-button). If it was emulated, I think it was done so very well.

I own the 64 version, but its in the back room, so doesnt get any play. No sense in buying it now until I finish Twilight Princess (I know, still havent yet!). Still enjoying SMW also. I guess the games I really enjoyed from Nintendo was the SNES games, still waiting on Super Metroid, Pilotwings, and FF3 (SNES Version, not rereleased real FF3 from Japan).

I've played both the Master Quest and CE versions (though admittedly only partway on the MQ version), but I came out of both experiences thinking the emulation was just fine. The CE version does have disclaimers for the sound quality, but I didn't encounter anything that reduced my enjoyment of the game.

Quick check of ebay and gamestop, however, prices each disc around the $40 USD range, so you may be better off going the way of the VC

I have: the original cart version (with red blood and Muslim chant intact), a gray cart version that someone must have left at my house, the MQ version for pre-ordering Wind Waker, and the Collector's Edition from ordering a year of Nintendo Power. So, no, I don't think I'll be buying the VC version.

OoT being released on the VC raises an interesting issue, namely which version are we going to get. For those of you unsure of what I'm talking about the original background music in the Fire Temple featured chanting monks. Later editions of the game simply removed the voices, because they were deemed to be "religious".
