The biggest setback about the game is simply that there is no online play. This game might be fun if you live with many people at your house to brawl but if you don't, fighting games get very dull. I'll just wait for the game to possibly get online play like you say.

Shun Di on VF 5 is the most rewarding fighter I've ever used, and when you figure out what you are doing, he's unstoppable. Half of his move can be used as fake-outs, his stance and variety of strikes doesn't clue your opponent in to your strikes, and you can pair together if a hard combo with two throws into one move if you have the timing.

Plus, he's a drunk, and what is not to love about that?

I got the game and I like it, although I've never been a fan of the series. The fact that is one of the very few decent games available for the PS3 made me get it and put an effort in liking it.

It is really not clear to me what are the resolutions supported. My TV supports both (720P and 1080i) but it doesn't have an option to tell me what is the current resolution. It does look very good.

If they add online play I'll be a happy camper but it is not really a must (in my opinion).

I just wanted to make a note about your comment that the Online mode installed on the HDD would eliminate lag. That is not true. The only thing that would change is the loading speed, not the amount of lag.

He dicho.

"It is really not clear to me what are the resolutions supported."

It supports 480i/p and 720p...

..which also means that those in my camp (CRT HDTVs and such) will only get to enjoy this game at 480p on our HDTVs.

Le *sigh*

I tried it at my friends and I didn't really care much for VF5. I don't know but I think by now these console systems should be able to have real life physics in them and better "Movement" quality, there movements are to computerish still. I mean yea, the graphics are really nice but the character movements don't match that of the graphics, so to me this game I would have to rate it a 5.5/10, It's nothing new it has been done in the past, by now they should have made these fighting game's a hell of a lot better.

@ BigDog -- I hear what you're saying about the physics, characters floating after getting hit and whatnot. You've got to understand though, this game is huge in Japan and fans actually -=requested=- those physics remain. Don't look at me, I'm all about getting as real as it can get, but the arcade-going "hardcore fighting enthusiasts" wanted floaty physics. *shrug*

the game can be played in native 1080i from the PS3 - thing is you have 720p not selected in the display settings. Online would have been the cherry on this sunday, but hopefully they release some downloadable content for leader boards, replay viewing, or something....

how can you not like the physics in this game? aside from getting hit while u are falling down and etc. the physics and animation in this are amazing.

things like the floating after getting hit are left in the game because of the fun factor. there has to be a thin line between a game and reality when you make things too realistic you get rid of the fun factor.

im personally not a fan of fighting games but i have been hooked to this one just like i was hooked to the first one on the sega saturn. this is a great game definitly worthy of a 8.5 out of 10 orr higher

Update:

=D

I can't wait to take this online someday and fight you guys. The computer can't keep up anymore. The reward for training with a character is so high. Especially dressing them up all pretty-like.

Huge Tekken fan, but after sometime with this game I can't put it down. I'm big on using Goh.

As far as those comlaining about realism, why? Too real and it will turn into a UFC game from way back when. Pulling off certain combos would disappear too; people just don't bounce like that in real life, no matter how hard you hit them. You put that realism in and you sacrifice some serious gameplay features and mechanics that make it fun in the first place. Also, fighters in a ring don't exactly have great "movement" majority of the time their movements are pretty stiff and jerky, save for maybe genki sudo.

If you don't like the game don't play it, no sense leaving a negative comment when you don't have to, unless of course you enjoy having people listen to you whine.

Used to play as Wolf back on the Sega Saturn, then went to Lei Fei when he came around, and now i'm really eager to try out El Blaze.

Akira all the way!!! Oh ya, give it up people neither PS3 or 360 is gonna be online. 360 will have leaderboards and stuff. So start worrying and get the cryin over w/people online isn't coming.

I believe that Sega has denied online play on both versions. The only online the 360 will probably be leaderboards.

With the resolution saying 720p, but able to do 1080p, could this be a result of the PS3 firmware upgrade?

yeah, nick, you are wrong. Game Informer has nothing to do with 1up. 1up is done by the ziff davis gamegroup. Same company that brings you Games For Windows and EGM mags, but slightly different groups of people. I have no idea who does Game Informer, but it ain't ziff.

Bigdog, you are crazy to complain about this physics. This game is perhaps the most perfect and well rounded fighting game ever made, and this coming from a tekken fanboy, this game is nuts. lei fei is of course the best, fools. And if you think the comp aint hard enough, go to the advanced arena and fight some guys whos dan 9, playing wolf, it is damn near impossible, this game cannot be won with cheap combos and repeated moves, it works for awhile, but eventually if you aint got skills, you aint gonna keep winning.
