I don't know about anyone here, but my eye-rolling isn't becuase of him using the GameBoy as an example object for videos games - it's that he uses it the same way my mother used it when I was a kid. She would treat all video games as a nebulous concept rather than a direct object.

"Stop playing Nintendo and do the dishes."

It's like if you were telling someone "stop fixing car" or "stop washing dog."

This is the dumbest thread I have ever seen on this site. All he said is to put down the Game Boy for a bit, or is too hard for the gaming population to actually do something in their lives that doesn't involve pushing buttons to the next level. He's not trying to ban games, or even control the ratings on the boxes! All he is said is for once in your life, go outside for a change!

And I agree many non-gamers describe handhelds as gameboys. I'm fine with that.

HA HA.. and when he said that quote, the DS and PSP did not exist! Genius!

I know Obama doesn't hate the Game Boy, and I know what point he was trying to make.

But if you're speaking to a youth group, use the right terminology. In that audience - which was _not_ the average Texan, mind you, but young Austin Democratic campaign volunteers, which is about as far from the average Texan as you can get - you know every gamer cringed when he said "Game Boy."

Yeah, it's a generic term for "grown-ups", which I guess now are, what, people 35 and up? Talking to a rally of college students, he should know better.

He also should probably say "get off your damn MySpace and get to work" instead. Waaaaay more time wasted by 18-30s on MySpace than on portable video games of any brand or model - just wait until he starts opening campaign offices that join these young volunteers with computers. He'll change his "get off your ass" speech in a hurry. ;)

Like it matters. No one is winning the US presidential election with a name like Barack Obama. Most americans are ignorant and know nothing of the issues or the canidates and most of the ones that aren't think the presidential election process is fatally flawed (see the last two elections, where bush LOST both of them...) and don't bother to vote. Thus, they go on name recognition alone, and won't be voting for someone whose name they can't pronounce. Sorry, but that's the simple truth of it.

This thread is a good argument for rescinding the vote.

Yeah, Obama is totally out of touch. People don't watch TV anymore, they spend all their time on Teh Innernets!

Um. Okay, was this news post necessary? Whether he said Game Boy or cell phone, it's all the damn same in his statement. It has nothing to do with his overall point. Jeez, guys.

"Go back to last year's Maryland Primaries for Democratic Senator. I'm not going to come out and say the word, but it's pretty obvious once you look at it."

Just because nintedo thinks the psp is old technology doesnt make it a reality. PSP still owns, don't believe the hype.
