Killing us softly with a PS3 song
Like the Saint's Row musical, talent, no matter how biased it may be, deserves to be recognized. Using The Fray's How to Save a Life as a template, GamerCastNetwork's How to Kill a Brand stands as one top notch piece of PlayStation smearing. It's time for Sony to start showing some Killzone footage and make people go, "ZOMG!" And at this stage of the game, that had better be the reaction.

I'm not a Sony hater, and I hope to one day own a PS3 (my 360 and Wii are expensive enough right now), but that is really, really funny.
Brandon @ Feb 25th 2007 1:14AM
There comes a point where the dead horse cant be beat anymore, because its been ground to the point of being dog food. I love the heavily edited and taken out of context Phil Harrison talk. But anyway, for all the sony hate, whats the real benefit of wanting sony to crash and burn? It wont necessarily translate into things being all hearts in roses in the world of nintendo or microsoft. All they would do is attack eachother with FUD next.
Grog @ Feb 25th 2007 1:24AM
Hilarious, if only for the contrast between what he had to "spice up" and the quotes and facts that were just sitting there ready to be highlighted.
ManekiNeko @ Feb 25th 2007 1:27AM
Yeah, I'm surprised Phil didn't start talking about a "sweet can... s-s-sweet can" in that video. It's still pretty funny, though, and I really do feel that Sony will be on the losing end of the console wars for the reasons described in the film clip.

Gott @ Feb 25th 2007 1:29AM
The real benefit is teaching Fony a lesson that the consumer won't buy a giant expensive piece of crap just because it has a Fony logo on it.
Those arrogant pricks need to be humiliated. Now how is it no one has lost their job over at Fony yet? I guess they are afraid to lose face in the public...
Once they are embarrassed then maybe next time around they will release a consumer friendly system and not try to shove blu-ray down our throats.
I hope Fony implodes...no one wants their equivalent tv's for higher prices or walkmans anymore.
Elrando @ Feb 25th 2007 1:35AM
6. "whats the real benefit of wanting sony to crash and burn?"
At no point during the song or these comments has anyone said they want Sony to crash and burn, they've only highlighted their poor performance so far.
This isn't really unjustified Sony hate, it's hating Sony for their fuck-ups.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Feb 25th 2007 1:36AM
Ugh.
I've said it once, I'll say it again.
Any person who wants any one company to fail is a compete and utter dipshit who can't call him/herself a gamer.
Sure, its fine if you predict a consoles loss. Hell, its fine of you hate a console or company with a passion. But to WANT a company to go out of business? Thats just lame.
Unless of course, the company in question was EA.

I was talking about some of the commenters that frequent Joystiq, and how they constantly talk about wanting sony to not only fail, but go under entirely.

wow, that has to be one of the best parodies i've seen since the good ol' days of weird al
Nino @ Feb 25th 2007 1:41AM
WIN
And as for Sony crashing and burning, well, why let companies think it is OK to price a console at $600 dollars? Even $400 is ridiculous to me for a game machine when I have rent and food and college to pay for.
I would have prefered a decent Sony machine this round but as it is, especially with the recent anouncements about bc, I'm loving seeing Sony get their butt kicked here. Maybe from now on they'll stop it with the false promises and arrogant mentality? Hope springs eternal.

hvnlysoldr @ Feb 25th 2007 1:46AM
I was a lapsed gamer. I had fun with Square RPGs on PS2 and Nintendo games on GC but I became frustrated at the length and time commitment. Where before I would spend hours a day playing a game and watching TV it became too much. I started spending less time on both and especially when I went to college.
I also became frustrated that my PSX, PSOne, and two PS2s broke down. My NES lasted longer and I didn't even take care of it.
When I was looking to buy my brother FF3 after Thanksgiving for the next holiday, I bought a DSL and other DS games on impulse. Being from a poor family I've never bought a new console. That speaks how the DSLite grabbed me. Now I can just pick up and play.
Games aren't interactive movies they're virtual play sets. Sony and MS are pushing for better graphics, more realism, turning it into a movie. Nintendo is pushing for accessible fun so I'm pretty satisfied with my DSL.
eagleclaw @ Feb 25th 2007 1:45AM
Where is Shepy and Optimus Prime when you need them the most to defend their COOL Playstation brand?
Elrando @ Feb 25th 2007 1:45AM
"I was talking about some of the commenters that frequent Joystiq, and how they constantly talk about wanting sony to not only fail, but go under entirely."
Well I spose that's fair enought then.
Gott @ Feb 25th 2007 1:50AM
Very intelligent point you make.
"Any person who wants any one company to fail is a compete and utter dipshit who can't call him/herself a gamer."
Now I assume your panties are in a wad because you are thinking that the more consoles the better. That is fine with me...just can't stand the arrogance of Fony...remember the comment that millions would buy the ps3 even if it didn't play games? Hard one to forget.
I would be happy with the Sony Empire crumbling to have the gaming division purchased by a new and more gamer friendly corporation.
Not that against EA myself...except for the silly microtransactions and how Madden only changes a little bit every 2 years. But it is the morons that buy it every year that keep EA doing what they are doing. So if you are mad at EA stop buying Madden you fools!
^^ That was for Fatass of Kickassness ^^

I am buying a ps3 not because it is sony branded i just dont give a about the brand wich i think that is a good brand i have tons of sony products not because i am a sonyfanboy just because they made quality products and i have a ps and a ps2 both of them the best consoles i ever had not just like that crapy gamecube.
And i am buying one because they are tons of games that i want to play, i dont give a shit for the wii and its control even if i am going to buy one to play with my friends and family.
So at least i am not buying one just because it is sony or fony or pony whatever it is i am buying one because i know that sony its a good brand.
Call me a fanboy whatever i dont care

Fatass of Kickassness @ Feb 25th 2007 2:01AM
Oh believe me, I can't STAND how arrogant Sony is. Still, wanting them to fail is a dumb thing to do.
eagleclaw @ Feb 25th 2007 2:05AM
@21If you didn't give a shit then you wouldn't have posted in the first place. Sony makes quality electronics? Maybe in 89' they made durable electronics but not any more by todays standard. Samsung does better HD's than Sony and that's why Samsung is the official sponsor of the NFL.
scepia @ Feb 25th 2007 2:09AM
Phil Harrison you do no best,

Brandon @ Feb 25th 2007 2:15AM

"Any person who wants any one company to fail is a complete and utter dipshit who can't call him/herself a gamer."
That's why the world need's fanboys. To do the work that so many 'normal' gamers would find morally apprehensive!
Sony doesn't need to fail. They need to shut up though. I think the video thoroughly points it out with real audio. As did the Sony E3 1-minute conference video.
You know, it would be wonderful in the eyes of a 'normal' gamer if everyone could like the consoles equally and perhaps own all three, but most people can't even afford ONE of the three.
ss @ Feb 25th 2007 2:21AM
You know you've reached a low when someone makes a shitty song about your failing brand :))
mongoro @ Feb 25th 2007 2:27AM
Sony is quite an amazing company. They are the only company ever to be #1 worldwide (not just gaming, I mean in electronics in general), but not be #1 in their home country. Sony's strength had always been delivering customer needs. But somehow they have gotten off track. I am a PSX owner, DC, PS2 and Xbox owner in the previous gen (i used to have some nintendo love with my NES and SNES). It is unfortunate that new consoles cost so much that I actually had to make a choice, and I picked the xbox360 (though I waited until the ps3 launch and found it hard to pick between them). Both are excellent machines, and it is unfortunate to have the extra costs associated with blueray in the ps3 as I do not yet have an HDtv. I do not regret my decision because the 360live experience and connectivity to WMC has been great. But the true reason the 360 got my dollars.. force feedback. I couldn't possibly have a system without it. Personally, that was the 1 change I could not forgive. Sorry for the long post.. its late and im tired.
Ironhide @ Feb 25th 2007 2:24AM
The sad thing here is that there is a ring of truth to all this. Some of you on here assume I'm a major 360 fanboy, however I'm actually a multi-console gamer. You name it I've owned it or still own it. Mostly the older stuff that I'm missing. Currently all the consoles from the past 10 years or so.
I fully intend to get a ps3 at some point, but I simply can't justify the cost of a console that looks identical if not better in terms of graphics on my 360. I just can't invest in a console like this at this price. Nor can one ignore the sheer arogance that Sony has taken this time around.
Even the most staunch PS3 fanboy can't tell me that Sony has been perfect from conception to launch. There are very few people who can look at a ps3 and say
'This is worth 600+ to me. I invested wisely.'
Often people will argue that this is comparing 2nd gen 360 games to 1st gen launch titles of ps3. For all the power Sony has laid claim to the ps3, this should blow my socks off with what this baby can do. Does it? Nope. Not a chance. The 360 has consistantly blown me away with excellent games, great selection of genres, and fantastic online experience.
When the PS3 has at least 3-4 games I am willing to play for ps3 that aren't available on 360, then I'll invest. Not before.
scepia @ Feb 25th 2007 2:33AM
It would seem as if the PS3's life is hinged on 2 titles. The way i see it, if MGS4 or Final Fantasy 13 become available on another platform, it will be the end.

Wanting Sony to fail is not dumb at all. I don’t hate Sony or anything and have very much enjoyed the PS1 and PS2. Wanting the PS3 to fail means rejecting the idea of a $600 console bloated with ‘features’ we don’t care about. Sony is not going to go away if the PS3 continues to do poorly. Instead they will design the PS4 better and not charge an arm and a leg. Having the PS3 fail is the benefit of competition, not a strike against it, as is tells Sony that they need to do better next time. If Sony left the console market because the PS3 didn’t come out on top, that would be bad. However, I can’t imagine that being the case. The PS3 failing doesn’t hurt competition, but rather forces Sony to produce products people want. If anything, having the PS3 succeed would be bad since we’d likely be paying $1000 for the PS4 and getting crappy titles.
big z @ Feb 25th 2007 2:42AM
I just want resistance to come out on xbox 360.
sony is really gonna be hurtin after this summer when the price drop hits,120 gig hard drives, and the new model with the cooler processor comes out.
If I was sony I'd lube up, bend over, and think of a happy place.>BURN
eagleclaw @ Feb 25th 2007 2:43AM
Seriously Sony's glory days are over. R.I.P to Sega and Lik-Sang and may Sony's karma continue to attack itself untill it breathes it's last breath. Game Over
Brandon @ Feb 25th 2007 2:58AM
So eagleclaw, sony will die from the karma of killing Lik Sang (although Lik Sang killed itself, all it had to do was stop selling PSP's, it decided on its own to close, and then blame it on Sony. Play Asia is still in business, all it did was stop importing PS systems)and pushing sega out of the console business (as if Saturn, Sega CD, 32X, NOMAD, and gamegear, on top of other blunders had nothing to do with their shaky viability in the market).
That would mean that microsoft will also be getting it from the karma police from their nefarious past.
But anyway, this is a sony lynch mob, so let me get out of the way.
Sidepocket @ Feb 25th 2007 3:12AM

scepia @ Feb 25th 2007 3:03AM
"although Lik Sang killed itself, all it had to do was stop selling PSP's, it decided on its own to close, and then blame it on Sony."
Well, when you have a number of lawsuits from a large aggressive company, you can't simply "clean up your act". Sony would have pursued it even if Lik-sang stopped, likely for past damages.
ManekiNeko @ Feb 25th 2007 3:06AM
Actually, I DO want to see Sony fail. Sometimes game companies need to be humbled before they can see the error of their ways. It happened with Atari, Nintendo, and Sega, and now it's Sony's turn to choke down a little humble pie.
Wouldn't it be a nice change of pace if Sony took its competition seriously, rather than expecting success to be served to them on a silver platter? That won't happen until they fully comprehend the concept of humility, and that can only happen if the Playstation 3 is an undeniable failure.
JR
Azerael @ Feb 25th 2007 3:07AM
The PS3 needs to fail hard. Sony doesn't need to die, they just need to learn to not try and fuck over their customers so that they don't do the same with the PS4.
Mike @ Feb 25th 2007 3:08AM
Hehehe. That was quite good.
Kevin @ Feb 25th 2007 3:15AM
Most people want Sony to deep down inside to fuck up because of what they did to Sega and now Lik-Sang.
I would gladly switch Sony with Sega in the industry as a competitive gaming company any day of the week.

Brandon @ Feb 25th 2007 3:22AM
Kevin, Sega did more to itself than sony couldve ever done. To many systems with little support. They would give up on it and churn out another poorly supported system. Dreamcast was doing well, but when the PS2 came out, sales dried up, and Sega decided to throw in the towel.
Vexorg @ Feb 25th 2007 3:43AM
I think I saw the best summary of what Sony has done wrong with the PS3 today at the local Fry's. There was a stack of PS3s (at least 30) sitting in the middle of the aisle, with a big sign on top reading "Financing available." Ignoring for a second the fact that Fry's would try to get you to finance a USB cable if they could get away with it, that seems to be a good sign that your product is way too expensive.
Christopher Lawrance @ Feb 25th 2007 3:51AM
"It would seem as if the PS3's life is hinged on 2 titles. The way i see it, if MGS4 or Final Fantasy 13 become available on another platform, it will be the end."
Ladies and Gentlmen Scepia hit it on the head. This is the sole reason the majority of those I've spoke with including myself still want a PS3. I'm never thought I would say it but I am finding myself leaning more and more toward a 360 (I never would have guessed Microsoft would have succeeded in this market..). I own a Wii since day one but do enjoy those epic movie experiences that both those series in particular bring. In addition, I DO enjoy high end graphics. I wouldn't even mind shelling out for a PS3 to be honest, but I anticipate either or both series jumping ship and an ill fate for Sony down the road. In short I dont want to end a new age Jaguar...
