I found the survey and the interview fascinating. Thanks for posting, Joystiq! I hope that more gamer-related surveys come out in the future, whether or not they're related to sexuality. The study in general brought up a lot of points I'd never thought about, and it's rather intriguing.

I think the whole thing with the bell curve of the sexuality being the inverse of the Kinsey stuff was huge news. That should get more attention outside of the gaming press in my opinion.

As far as people mainly wanting more gay content in RPG's all i have to say is FFXII! Vaan: so gay. Blathier: so Bi. Basch: so straight. Those Japanese are way ahead of this study, they have all the bases covered!

I'm not entirely sure why sexuality has to come into play when we're talking about video games. You'd have to be a complete pervert to want to play a game just because of it's sexuality. Sex is shoved down our throats in just about every other facet of life and advertisement, why can't video games just be fun? Also, I don't really understand what having gay video game characters accomplishes. What is the game about or involve if a character's sexual preference is important to know?

I don't think there's anything wrong with polling different types of gamers to see what they play, but should a gamer's sexuality really matter to a video game publisher? I really doubt it. Also I think to say that gay gamers need to be targeted with certain types of games is ridiculous. What's the point? Are we saying that gay people can't be truly happy unless whatever product is specifically targeted towards them? I know I don't buy products based on the fact that I like women. The whole thing just seems ridiculous.

Let me get this straight, Kentjones. You're going to use a man ho lathers himself up with oil to "play fight" with other oily men as a source of "hetero power?" Excuse me while I laugh for a minute...

Anyway, if you don't like gay people, fine. You don't have to read about gay people. Joystiq is hardly shoving it down your throat since you were the person who actively clicked the link. If you wish to remain in a social cave, you're more than free to do so. Just don't click the links.

The published results are completely uninteresting. With this 'reverse bell curve' that Jason achieved on the response participants, this is a great opportunity to show what differences exist in gaming attitudes as you move from 1 to 7 along the orientation curve.

Instead, we just ended up with some generic gaming survey that shows us 66% of respondents own a PS2. BOOOORING!

I've got nothing against the GLBT scene, let 'em play, I say. I'm suprised there's not an MMORPG for the BLGT group yet. Like World of Heroes.. Only everybody's gay. (as opposed to Second Life which is.. well.. just "GAY")

Thanks for the interview though, it's always a pleasure to read about stuff that isn't always fanboyism spouting out of otaku mouths :D
