I thought that was reasonable at first...

£39.99 = $78.32

I'm sorry UK, especially if Wii and 360 games are in the same range.

I was expecting worse, more around the £50-£60 area. Not too bad considering Xbox 360 games started off at the above price point.

Wii games tend to go for around £30-£35.

80 dollars per game? Not bad!

Hopefully those other companies can stay competitive with $ony's low low prices.

$13.00 is VAT (17.5%)

$78.00 - 13.00 = $55.00

That seems like a pretty good deal for first party games. The majority of games for the XBOX 360 are priced at £49.99. Overall, good move on Sony's part to price games competitively, especially since many of the first party titles are solid games that will attract a lot of attention at launch.

Prices suck, but at least it's consistant. Unfortunately, Sony left it open for more... disreputable publishers. At the same time of this announcement, Sony also announced Aussie pricing on games. Which remained high but consistant with the region.

I do chuckle anytime I hear someone bitch about $20 for Dragon Quest VIII. I have to remind them the Japanese paid $90 a copy for it.

Check your math DBX00.

$78 - $13 = $65

It still looks a lot closer to US prices for first-party games.

@5

That extra $13 is still coming out of your pocket. Also, competitive pricing means using price as a competitive platform, meaning you go lower than the other guy.

Sony is a prime example of non-competitive pricing as they frequently assert that their product is worth the hefty price increase over their competitors. It looks like their game pricing is identical to the states, meaning same price as new 360 games, both of which are more expensive than Wii games. That's not competitive pricing.

PS3 for 600&euro and then two times 60€...

Not only console itself is overpriced, but with so few worthy games - 60€ price tag is really good recipe for slow suicide.

I want to buy PS3 - but would Sony give me any slightest chance to do that???

If Sony wouldn't drop prices ... OMG ... Okay, okay I'm leaving: Wii availability is not problem anymore over here and everybody's happy with 10 decade old non-crispy graphics.

Another disadavtange of going last?

MS priced their games at £49.99 for 9 months before lowering them to £39.99 and I guess Sony had no other choice but to sell them for the same price despite being bluray rather than DVD.

MS must have sold a few million games in the UK at 49.99 at £10 ($20) extra thats a spicy meatball!

DBX00, wrong. The RRP came down on Xbox 360 games from £49.99 to £39.99. Unfortunatly, we're still being screwed. God save the queen.

£40 is rrp on wii games but if you look around you can get down as far as £25 but mostly around £35 so hopefully the same will be true of ps3 games

£40 is a rip on ANY game.

(Don't think i've EVER paid more than £30 for a game in my 15 odd years of playing them. Except maybe for Tie Fighter Collector's Edition - back when yu got a gigantic box, manual, keyboard layout, etc.. ..oh the memories.. sigh..)

Better price point than the 360 when it launched according to IGN...

"Sony has finally revealed how much you're going to have to pay for its first-party PS3 games at launch and it's less than the cost of Xbox 360's initial line-up.

Potential big hitters MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man cost £39.99 (€59.99), as do with Genji, Ridge Racer 7 and Formula One Championship Edition. With many expecting Sony to follow Microsoft's lead and price its next-gen games at £49.99, it's nice to see we'll be saving a few extra pennies"
