I enjoyed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time when it first came out, but the graphics already seemed not only dated and chunky, but murky and gloomy by the time the game arrived on GameCube via the promotional Zelda compilation. How sad! The game should still be fun, though, for players who can look past all of that. Long quest, horse, arrows, time travel—good stuff!

I just found something that Ocarina of Time players might find useful: a checklist I made to track progress in finding Gold Skulltulas. The idea was that while a detailed walkthrough might spoil much of the fun, a checklist would likely be only a very minor spoiler to maximize the enjoyment of the game. Anyway, the modification date on the file is April 8, 1999 and I never finished or released the checklist, so if I don't share it now, I probably never will. Here goes then.

This may or may not be useful to you, but here is just in case, almost untouched since the last century (!) except that I deleted some unfinished parts, added the GameFAQs URLs, and condensed and slightly modified some of the text in the introductory section, such as the general tips. And by the way, I probably used a walkthrough such as the one mentioned by "marshmallow" to help me find some of the spiders for my checklist, but it was so long ago that I do not recall such specific details.

That should do it; knock yourselves out.

The Hunt for the Gold Skulltulas a.k.a. "Spiders of the Curse"

A Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Checklist by Brian Sexton

I hate spiders, especially golden ones that look like skulls and leave
behind tokens when they die. Thus, I am happy to aid you in your quest
to rid Hyrule of the foul beasts.

This is not meant to be a complete listing of how to find each Golden
Skulltula. It is simply a checklist to help you track your progress.
For more information about how (and when!) to find each Spider of the
Curse, refer to something like the walkthrough by "marshmallow", which
can be found at sites such as GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/); in
this case, the URL is as follows:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/game/564226.html

Please note that the listed areas may include sub-areas. Also, an
area can be marked as clear when a dungeon it contains is not.

@jman: "just stop repating the same complaint over and over again..at least come up with something new..."

You want them to come up with NEW complaints?! I don't; I just want them to shut the hell up. ;)

Might get this. Any word on that rumble, fellas?

You can just emulate all these VC games.

Seriously, dont waste your money on the VC. Mininova bottorrent with every SNES and N64 game ever created is on sale for free.

@ Tom

If anything I doubt there will be Rumble functionality, but if it's like the GC version it should have rumble. To really be sure, I'd try to find a good deal on either the OoT+Master Quest or the Collector's Edition before getting the VC version. Both discs have rumble and come with extra goodies as well.

Holy cow... I downloaded this yesterday and played through the first temple, and I must say, the graphics have tremendously improved since the N64 days. So crisp and clear. Is this the same resolution upgrade they did for the Gamecube version? It probably helps that I'm running it with component cables to an HDTV, but man, I'm in non-muddy graphics heaven.

@ #39 & #43
If u lose your VC games u bought before (Wii craps out, u inadvertently delete VC games, or something like that), u shouldn't need to b/u on SD cards since ppl here say Nin lets u reDL them for free.

Another point to make about SD cards and VC games is that you are *NOT* allowed to put those games onto an SD card and play it on another Wii. To prevent copying and pirating, those VC games are tied into your specific Wii machine

Word is that Zelda OoT is better on n64 emus b/c 1) u can tweak the resolutions to better suit your monitor, and 2) there actual was a graphics overhaul to the ROM, so even if u output display to a TV, it would still look better than the original n64 cart version. That may be what Nin did with the VC

Normally, I'd buy anything Zelda, but since I can already play all of the console games on GameCube, which means I can play them all on Wii, I think I'll keep my $10.
