GDC director: PS3 owners will be "very happy" next week

As GDC rapidly approaches, GameDaily's James Brightman sat down with conference director Jamil Moledina to discuss possible PS3 announcements among other things. According to Moledina, PS3 owners will be "very happy" come March 7 after hearing Phil Harrison's keynote. "Not to be coy but you'll just have to come to his talk" he told GameDaily. "All I can say is that I stand behind my ['very happy'] comment."

It's likely Moldina has the advance on Harrison's keynote because, after all, it's his freakin' conference. And being that Jamil isn't on Sony's payroll, maybe PS3 owners do have some legitimate good news to look forward to next week. To say they need it is an understatement.

Jamil may not be on Sony's payroll, but as you said, it IS his conference - he's directing it - what else would you expect him to say? "Sony's keynote will be adequate at best."? Give me a break.

Sony is going to announce a firmware update to enable the rumble that the sixxaxis has really had all along!

He'll say that Europe is finally getting the PS3s in stock, fully compatable with PS2 games, and it'll run 100 Euros for the entire PS3. Or not.

Are they reducing the price of the PS3? Because that's what would make me the happiest.

One new "exclusive" game from Konami and/or Capcom, that would be my best guess.

maybe they'll show off some killzone gameplay. zzzz...

I bet he will be announcing a rebate for PS3 owners and then drop the retail price. It will be Sony's indirect method to admitting the PS3s are just collecting dust

Actually, Harrison seems to be the most competent of the Sony higher-ups (though that isn't saying much).

Why would a price-drop make PS3 OWNERS happy? I'd think it would be the opposite.

GOW II will run in HD in PS3. IGN retract that statement because they did an NDA. Now they can say that again soon..

My guess: HD Movie downloads en masse (a big catalog made available at once) or a firmware update to make the silly PS1 on your PSP downloads playable on PS3, along with a bunch more titles added. No doubt Tekken 5 DR will be announced or made available to USA folks around that time as well, he may announce that.

The ONLY thing that could make me happy would be that MGS4 or FFXIII will be out within the next few weeks. Other than that, this guy is setting me up for a big let down.

The announcement that will make everyone happy will be that Best Buy is taking 1 for 1 trade-ins on PS3, so you can finally exchange the ill-fated purchase for something more functional, like a Wii or 360.

@8 I have to agree with you - is this still joystiq? pro ps3 news? I didn't think this Microsoft subsidiary was capable of it. Wonder what Ballmer will say now that they've posted positive news of the PS3 on this "news" site. lol. Maybe he'll throw some chairs and do a "developers, developers, developers" dance (hey 360 owners, if you love MS so much, you should at least get those references).

As for the good news, it doesn't really matter to me, I'm still enjoying the games that aree currently out on the PS3 and I'm playing through the original God of War game again in anticipation for the the 2nd. To the more moderate writers out there that don't post racist remarks, tell others to die and wish a company to fail, enjoy your games. I know that those people are far and few on this site "News" site. ;)

My guess would be PS1 downloads can be played on the PS3. It would be stupid if it's the God of War 2 in HD thing, cause we heard that a while ago, regardless of whether or not they had to pull the story. A sony rep already said no killzone at GDC, right?

I don't know. Should be interesting. I hope it's something worth hearing.

i am hoping its some "exclusive game" announcement than stuff we already know that "will happen" like downloads playable on PS3, background downloading, downloading more movies/music etc. Give us the supposed new Bioware PS3 title and announce it being exclusive will do the trick...

Whatever it is everyone will be... Underwhelmed. And I'd be saying that whether it was Sony or Microsoft. Both companies have a horrible reputation for blowing minor upgrades into THE NEXT BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! Honestly Sony and Microsoft should hire Steve Jobs as their product roving product roll out Guy. Jobs can make the average person by bottle air -- iAir.

But if I had to lay a bet it will be some sort of copy of XBOX LIVE for PSN. Except for the (lack of) games situation that's always the big complaint I hear from PS3 owners -- the wretched state of PSN.

But, I can hear Phil Harrison now, its better because you'll the consumer can choose free PSN or PSN LIVE for $79.99 a year.

He'll promise that you'll be able to play games online for free (and that sound you hear is Host servers at game publisher being switched off) in addition to being to play online (via a P2P system) for a fee.

My brother in law (a PS2 guy) snubbed his nose at all the new systems this go around. But I got him to playin my 360 and showed him some HD-DVDs and he's comin closer to getting a PS3. I told him there was gonna be a Rachet and Clank and he's gotten even closer. I think Killzone 2 will be the deal breaker. Hopefully that is what this is about. Wish he'd hurry up and get one though. I've been wanting to try out the PS3.

The big announcement is that the PS3 is flame retardent....or, maybe it floats??
