i voted less (seems to be the popular vote, since no one has stated this). the wii just isnt that much fun. its good for a laugh with friends but beyond that i feel that the experience is quite shallow and leaves something to be desired. movements are not 1:1, that is why it feels gimmicky. graphics are terrible, thats why it will have the shortest life cycle out of all the consoles out this generation. beyond zelda the games should be free. warioware is litterally a free games site with motion controls. mario party will be similar to that. besides nintendo's AAA titles (Mario,Zelda,Metroid,SSB) there is not much going for this machine. i wish nintendo would make an original IP WITHOUT MARIO/WARIO/PEACH/LUIGI/DONKEYKONG/DIDDYKONG/ETC. how about something new? no, not animal crossing, nintendogs, pokemon. possibly a FPS? or a non-childish RPG? fuck even a new platformer would be a step in the right direction. just make sure it is made by nintendo and NOT ubisoft. nintendo has some great IP's and almost all of those games are awesome. there just arent to many of them. fix that and ill start playing my wii again. until then...

To all Nintendo "Plumberboys", deep down you know I am right. IBM said that the broadway chip that is in the WiiCube IS in fact very, very similar to the gekko chip that powers the GameCube. If it is not, then how do you explain Mario giving early WiiCube developers the Wiimote and a special adapter to use with their....stay with me know, GameCube SDK. Please enlighten me on this one. Give me a good laugh. #29, I have been a gamer since the TRS 80 AKA the Trash 80, if u do the math that puts me in the mid 30's and I was in the Game Industry from 97 till 2004 so I actually do have a leg to stand on.

Face it...u r worried that I am right. My 50 panny with my PS3 and my Blu-ray movies and my many many years of future killer AAA games r gonna wipe the floor with the Plumber's WiiCube.

It is about the games....u r right #33.
That is why the PS was the best system...
That is why the PS2 was the best system...
That is why the PS3 in 2 years time say mid 2008 will be the best sytem.

I do not care if you like the 360 or the WiiCube if it makes you happy then it makes you happy.
That is all that should matter.

I just think that calling the WiiCube Next gen or New gen or whatever is not accurate.

Like I said b4...if Sony were to release a $250 dollar motion controller for the PS2 with an overclocked EE and GS...would we call it Next gen? I sure as frack would not...so why do you?

Remember Plumberboys 2008

I actually played it a bit when I first got it. The first day, I used it about 5 hours, then about 2 the second day, and an hour or so each day for the rest for the first week....now it has been gathering dust for the past 3 weeks. The only time I feel inclined to turn on my Wii, is to check the weather.

I actualy posted it on Ebay, but it did not sell. I was only asking the price I paid for the console, Wii Play, and extra wiimote and nunchuck and could not even get a bid.

Now I fear that I may be stuck with it as my local SuperStore actualy has Wiis on the shelf.

Here is hoping that is actually a good game to play something time year on the thing. If I wanted to play flash games, I could have gotten those free on the Internet.

PS/ Cannot wait to get home to play DDR Revolution.

Jebus - so what if the architecture is similar.

My 3.4 Ghz P4 with 2 gigs of RAM is similar to my old 33 Ghz 486 with 8 megs of RAM.

Can they play the same games? In some cases yes.
Do they take the same input? In some cases yes.

Are the comparable beyond that? Not particularly.

So what does it matter if the Wii is based off the original GC architecture? Just think about what your PC and Mac is based off of.

currently, its a POS. if i was to get zelda, id get it on the gaemcube. doesnt have any decent games yet.

"graphics dont matter..." im afraid they do, and the wii's are terrible. wii sports was fun for the whole 30mins, zelda was absolute gash. my friend thought some boss was badass, it was nothing on lost planets bosses.

i wasnt a fan of the wiimote either.

dont get me wrong, £99 and im buying one.like someone said, its an over priced gamecube (even 99 is a lot). mario kart, mario party etc love them when drinking

single player+wii= no go

Ya, 2008, right. Maybe your POS3 will gain steam when MGS4 and FF13 finally come out.

And let's not forget that it is indeed about the games. You give a lot of credit to PS1 and 2, rightly so. But let's not forget that they both had hundreds of games, about which maybe 10% of were at least decent and about 3% were quality titles. It's like looking for a pearl in the sewer when you want to get a good PS2 game and don't have a specific one already in mind. If you disagree, then you're definitely in love with Sony and love is definitly blind.

I am very happy with my PS3. I use it more "right now" for Blu-Ray movies and just to let you know...after Blu-ray I can hardly watch a DVD anymore even though my Panny upscales it. The colors are not the same, the clarity, the depth, the sound...everything. Even my wife who could usually care less about this sort of thing is in awe of the difference. Anyone who says otherwise either has not seen it yet or is an eeidiot. Seeing them at the store does not count as the eediots at the stores have the contrast and the other setting way off and nowhere near the D6500K—(the optimum prescribed color temperature used by the film and broadcast industry)

When I got my PS2 until fall 2001 when MGS2 came out I also used it primarily as a DVD player.

I know that by the fall of 2007 I will be playing MGS4, Lair, GTA4, Star Wars The Force Unleashed...I could go on and on.

Meanwhile...you Plumberboys will be playing with more cute fuzzy creatures that kill things by landing on them with their buts.

I knew that I was going to by a PS3 back in 2002 when the first rumors were going around about the PS3 possibly having a built-in Blu-ray player.

Mario is making about $75-80 per WiiCube sold (they have been since launch) Not hard to do when you are using 6 yr old technology.

As for PC's being simmilar...of course they are...they have to be. Otherwise none of the hundreds of different software would work properly.
That is the drawback of the PC...it has to have all of this redundant crap built into every new chip.

The PS3 was built from the ground up so it does not have any of these useless bottlenecks that PC's do.

Each to his own...but I know that 1 out of every 2 or 3 people that bought the WiiCube that are true gamers will regret buying the WiiCube in 2008.

Just my opinion.

I still spend several hours a week playing Battlefield 2 on the PC but I try to get some play time in on the Wii daily as well. Playing Red Steel and Mario 64 at the moment (and the occasional game of Madden 07).

And for the fanboys, yes I am aware that it is basically an enhanced Gamecube but I was not willing to drop $600 for the PS3. I am in my mid 30's and have had every console known to man in my time and even though I like to see progress, I think there should be a limit to just how much money these companies should expect us to pay. Granted, an Atari cart back in the day costing $30 was nowhere near worth it when compared to a Genesis or even a Playstation game for the same... But you could always count on a new console costing about $250 or less and suddenly Sony and Microsoft decide that it's time to just slam us with $400 and up console prices?? Not happening!

I won't touch a 360 or PS3 until I can get a premium version for about $300.

WarioWare is amazingly fun to play. Trauma Center is excellent. SSX Blur I pick up today! Madden is really fun, and I've beat COD 3 which while not graphically on par with 360, has a better play mechanic.

@jay

I completely agree about excite truck. It was called the game to definitely not by but the fact that it is alot of fun, somewhat challenging, and features custom soundtracks off the bat (no ulocking crap for that feature) made it one of the best titles I own. Its just a ton of fun even if it is subpar graphics. I sure hopre F-Zero does not control the same way. The reason why is that F-Zero needs very fine controls but it wouldn't be hard to map regular F-zero controls to the wii remote. Maybe add a couple of neat motion features. Gestures would be fine. I'd like to see regular analog steering. Z and B for quick turns/"lean" or whatever its called. Obviously A for gas, Dpad down for turbo, C button for brake. Then just add the motion in the controller for things like 360. Its has to also be as least as fast as the gamecube version. Maybe even faster. The F-Zero on GCN was seriously one of the most under-appreciated and best racign games of all time.

@ Jebus Christ/ Aka Mcfly

So you are a 30 year old trolling around on a video game website trying to make people feel bad for a purchase that they are not sorry they made. Wow.... You are truly inspiring to many hate filled losers with nothing better to do. Its also a little ridiculous to sit there and use the early dev kits given out as a good example. Yes the chips are similar but its still more powerfull then the gekko so its a pointless argument on your side. The early dev kits are a result of an obviouse need to get games out quickly before the hardware was completely finished. In my opinion nintendo rushed to get the product to market and as a result we have a lack of good games coming out right now. Just like the DS we will see a huge release of games about 1 year after the systems release. Just like the DS had no good RPGs until after a year of release. But the best part is I'm not scared of any company winning or so called loosing. Actually thanks to idiots like you I can get all the gamecube games I want at dirt cheap prices. Some of which have better graphics then PS2 games could ever have. So I should actually be thanking you for all the negative sentiments you have towards anything not sony. Thanks for letting me play games I missed for real cheap. The sadest part is that you are obviously the one who is scared. Its easy to pick up on that since your comments are of a "hahaha na na na na poo poo" nature. Xbots and Wiicube.... You are truly hurting my feelings.... maybe I'll sell my Wii now since I am in denile. Guess Xbox fans will have to give up their system as well and forget Live since its inferior to the PS3 network right??? How about those of us who plan on buying all three systems b/c they all have different offerings? Guess we should just follow your blind ass leadership. The truth is you're the one who is scared and you show it in every way. And if you indeed have been around long enough to have seen tape drives and such then tell me how you figure the Blue Gay will dominate. The end of spinning optical drives may just be around the corner. They will have a 1TB "dvd" type disc probably within the next 3 years. What will you say then? You should obviously know whats going on with technology after seeing so many renitions go by. Do you really expect to place all hopes in blue ray when just recently researchers found a way to increase data storage on a single dvd type disc to 1 TB using regular red lasers? Seriously most people don't give 2 shits about Blue Gay or HD DVD and regular DVDs will stay king for years to come. The 1TB disc will be for computers and data storage. Everything may end up being direct download in the long run. Point is who knows which way it will swing but I doubt Blue Gay is gonna be the end all say all new standard.

I like to keep my wife happy. She gets bored watching and playing shooters. Since I usually am at work so late, we spend all our time at home together, except for maybe a few hours on the weekend. So we normally play WoW together in the evenings.

There sure is. Remember that graph a few days ago that showed power consumption by all 3 next gen consoles? Remember 360 and ps3 was measured in the hundreds of watts, whilest wii ran at 22 at MAX LOAD.

Thats why its 250 dollars. It takes alot of R&D to shrink processors, beef them up, and STILL have them use less electricity. Astronomically less, in this case.

Get your head out of your ass. Sony and MS spend their R&D and more power and more power consumption with the same old controllers. Nintendo spent it on making a streamlined machine that uses practically no energy and gives a new gameplay experience.

And it has a free game.

You sir, are a fanboy.

I love the people bashing the Wii cause of its poor graphics. Who gives a damn? All the games that look good often suck, with the exception of a few gems like GoW, Halo 3(assuming), Gran Turismo, yadda yadda...

Fact is, most of the Nintendo games everyone loves. (MOST) People will play smash brothers, mario kart, mario party, forever. Such great games to play with friends and for long periods of time. You very rarely get a game that is lots of fun and also looks very nice.

Graphics are way way way way way over reated.

Games are like girls (kinda sorta)

Sure, you could get a really beautiful girl(pS3, 360), but if she is a raging bitch, nobody is gonna wanna be by her. I'd rather be with a girl that looks decent, and is lots of fun to be with (Wii)...

Every game could look like twilight princess and it wouldn't bother me one bit. It looks great.

That being said, I also own a PS3, and plan to get a 360, so, Im not bias, just tired of people bashing eachother for their preference. not everyone wants to pay 400-600 bucks to play games that suck anyway.

so what if the 360/PS3 uses more power? im pretty sure that article made everyone go ' oh shit i cant turn that on anymore, because i want to conserve power/save money on electricity'. because the cost of electric for having a game machine on is soooooo expensive, right? if you can afford a console im pretty sure the electricity used is a non factor. it was an interesting article, that im not denying. but honestly who cares? it does use less power, and guess what i would expect it to. it isnt producing anything more than previous generation graphics! oh and i wonder how many more batteries it eats through? i have barely used mine (under 20 hours total) and it has spit out 4 sets! and these were not low price batteries, they were duracell.

oh ya and it did include a free game if you call it that. maybe thats why it retailed for $250 instead of $200... realized most people would not buy it so lets package it in raise the price $50 and say we are giving it away! amazing! oh and i wouldnt consider myself a fanboy, i am a pissed off customer. i bought their shit and i wish i didnt. im sure im not the only one after reading how many people say "i havent touched it in weeks" , "havent played it since december", "collecting dust", "only play it to demonstrate to friends", "only play with friends", "stupid when playing alone". so if you want to call me a fanboy go ahead. BUT are they all fanboys too? they dont sound particulary happy with the wii.

congrats on being happily married to someone that likes playing games. i honestly wish my gf liked playing games.

Trolling around? That is a good one. Other than 2day I hardly ever post anything. Go back and look if you do not believe me. I usually just sit back and laugh at all of the funny stuff people post.

It is clear 2me now that it is very easy to rile up and cause a raucus by just pointing out a few facts.

I do not think I ever said anything about the PSN being better than XBOX live. However, I know that in 5 yrs time I will have paid $0 for the PSN whereas Live will cost u an additional $250 in the same time frame. Of course it is better, it HAS to be better, it has been out longer and they CHARGE you $50 a yr for it.

As for future mediums DVD 1TB is still very much on the drawing board, holographic tech is still a ways off. More than likely this is the last physical medium we will ever have...at least I hope so.

I do not understand why some of u think that I am scared that Sony will not be #1. Even thought I think they will. I do not work for Sony, I know Sony is in this buisiness for the money, as are Mario and Bill Gates. Even if the PS3 is last this generation then so be it. Sony is not going anywhere, niether is the Plumber, or Bill Gates.

It is a good time to be a gamer...more so than ever. The big 3 will be falling all over themselves trying to please us.

If u can afford all 3 then good 4 u. I cannot, so I choose which one is best 4 me.

If u have a WiiCube good 4 u.
If u have a 360 good 4 u.
Like I said b4 each 2 his/her own.

Boy is it easy to get the "Plumberboys" panties in a bunch.
Thanks for letting me have so much fun 2day.

And the wii is lacking. it looks terrible, even in 480p. it is unbearable to go from smooth 720p/1080i/1080p graphics to clunky 480i/480p graphics.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/08/ucf-mad-scientists-squeeze-1tb-of-data-onto-single-dvd/
You can see that it is probably closer then you think. I don't think wys off will be 10 years from now and I am positive that Blue Gay and HD DVD will become the new standard. All the consumer needs is to buy a Blue Gay player, pissing away a couple hundred bucks, to find out that scientist have already had the 1TB dvd on the way. I am definitely not a nintendo fanboy. I boycotted them after the MK1 incident because I don't like censorship. I want my Mortal Kombat bloody and thats that. I would deem it appropriate to call you something of the similar nature to plumber boy but PS is about third parties and they don't have a "mascot" to peg you with. Unlike you I can see that praising the PS3 and bashing another is a childish waste of time. It sure doesn't get me upset. I am just trying to see how far you'll go. I think everyone reading this thread is wondering the same. You know there is a point where you can't pull the foot out of your ass there bud.

Ok, lets stop to think of this

Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist trophy appeared photo realistic

GT4 and Tourist Trophy were PS2 games

PS2 was weaker than GameCube

Wii is stronger than GameCube

Thereby, the Wii is more than capable of "good enough" graphics, as well as having the ability to display 1.9 billion pixels in a second, mathematically (pales in comparison to PS360, but that means it is physically capable of running great graphics)

My wife actually cried every day that she couldn't find a Wii. Once we got one (about 2 months ago) we went wild over (about 2 weeks).

That was the last time it got touched other than to show the weather channel to someone.

I'm not a PS3 fan, but I seriously don't understand how that thing (the Wii) can possibly be somebody's main console.
Then again, I'm pretty hardcore, so just SEEING the graphics on the Wii makes me turn it off immediately. I was all excited to play a shooter, so I rented Call of Duty - bad decision. I couldn't believe I had a so-called 'next-gen console' where I was shooting at clumps of pixels like I was back on the PS2.

And about 100 new processor instructions which run the gamut of features that PS3 and 360 have.

Seriously dude. You don't know what you're talking about. The wii is more than capable at doing everything the PS3 and 360 can do (in games) except HD resolutions. All the cool lighting effects, all the cool AI tricks (because game AI really isn't so complex), even the physics.

The only thing you're not getting on Wii is HD visuals. And frankly, for 250 dollars, thats OK with me. Would I have liked to have HD visuals, hell yes. But I did not want to see this console generation priced at 400 dollars and up.

JJC, sorry you have buyers remorse. Sell it on e-bay for twice what you paid for it. That should make you feel better.

 Wii is pretty much the *only* console I play anymore. I'd thought about buying a 360, and who knows, if there's a price cut maybe I will, but I just don't see the point. I find the older I get, (30 next month) I want to play a game I don't have to think about. I've probably spent $200 on the VC, it's been great to round out my TurboGrafx collection. Super Castlevania, Bomberman '93, Mario World, I can't complain. When I try new games like GoW or Crackdown (or even Halo for the original Xbox) I just get the feeling that it's the same game I've played hundreds of time before but now with fancier graphics. Not saying that all 2d platformers aren't similar in the same way, but at least then it's a fast, non-comittal, "twitch" style of play... Playing Lost Planet at a buddy's house just feels like *work* to me.

Oh well, to each their own, I guess. I just feel like the Wii is my perfect system. When large portions of your gaming life were spent on games that had two colors (black and white) the "next gen" shine of the 360 and PS3 just don't do anything for me.

Now get off my lawn!

@ Crono

Exactly: Hollywood Chip is capable of normal mapping (despite what people say), as well as bump-mapping, and specular levels, plus its using the same kind of VRAM (GDDR3) which is used in the competition

The chipsets have most of the features, just lack the raw horsepower (only about 1/6th the total RAM and 1/11th total clock speed of PS360)

And TiaMaster: The reason it resembled PS2 was because COD3 (just like most ports so far) were running on the PS2 engine with Wii Controls

The Wii was pretty much the only gaming system i used since November,
with the exception of:
>>A few X-box Live Halo 2 sessions,
>>Playing through Gears of War co-op at my friend's place,
>>And playing Katamari & Shadow of the Collosous with my girlfriend.

So, that would be a good ... 70 - 80% of my gaming since november spent with the Wii. And i still havent gotten bored.

Until the release of Supreme Commander that is ...
My gaming PC isnt feeling lonely anymore ;-)

(i havent played another game since Supreme Commander came out)

Admittedly, I am playing my wii a lot less than I was before.. I've finished Zelda, and.. well.. yeah. I COULD go and buy Ocarina of time on the VC, but I'd rather get a link to the past, which isn't out in australia yet.

So, it's back to FFXII for the time being... until the wii drought is over. once things like project hammer, foreverblue, MySims, Spore, and Metroid prime 3 arrive, however...

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

people like you are so adorable.Your just mad all the third party developers are going to Xbox and the Wii and leave the Xbox 360 2 behind

PS3 blows

Xbox and Wii between them have better motion controls than the PS3 and the same graphics for the price of one PS3

you got ripped off, for 700 you could hav had 2 systems with 2x the exclusives, and more than 4x the games because of the 360's headstart

i am ashamed that i took the time to argue with such an idiot

I havn't played mine at all this year. There hasn't been any great games for it since Zelda and Wii Sports which is a disappointment. When a new good game comes out I'll play it more.

@MosquitoControl

Most ignorant statement regarding technology I've heard in a long time and my mom thinks she can "rewind" a dvd. You are talking about a 33 MHz inorder execution processor that predates the Pentium brand. Holy shit your so far off with that statement putting them in the same architectural class it's really quite humorous. Way to talk out your ass.

I'm glad I spent money on a Wii than a PS3. If were to get bored of a system and stop playing for awhile, I'm more relieved that I only spent $250 rather than $600.

As for those people who feel that games with out-dated graphics translates into less fun, you're a fucking moron! There are tons of dated games that are still fun, and in many cases, even more fun than the new games with the new graphics. Developers have moved on to higher end graphics but have long forgetten the "fun" element. Just because something is 3D doesn't guarentee fun.
