PS3 firmware v1.54 adds UVC camera support
It may not be the one you were waiting for, but today's PlayStation 3 firmware v1.54 update brings additional video-camera support to the console:- The image of the person you are chatting with during video chat can now be changed to match the screen size (explanation here)
- You can now use a USB camera compatible with USB video class (UVC) for video chat

I do like the 360 more than the PS3, but I like how the PS3 supports standardized hardware.
Very nifty.
Jess @ Feb 28th 2007 1:05PM
"You can now use a USB camera compatible with USB video class (UVC) for video chat"
That is something that the 360 needs.
sambo @ Feb 28th 2007 1:05PM
does that include the usb camera from ps2?
Myke @ Feb 28th 2007 1:10PM
Well I'm glad to see some people are hard at work to make that system even better than it already is, instead of just trying to convince mindless reporters that you can't buy one in a store. We need more posts like this one, even though it doesnt directly effect me, I'm happy to see improvements take place, regardless of the system.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 1:12PM

That's one thing I like too. Standard keyboards, bluetooth headsets, and now cameras. It doesn't limit you to proprietary/branded equipement.

You could always use the Eyetoy, but this update allows you to use a group of UVC compatible device. A lot of the Sony cameras are UVC compatible. I'll wait for the HDEyetoy that's suppose to be released in April.
F1ghter @ Feb 28th 2007 1:17PM
At first I thought this was PSP firmware, and thought it was pretty sweet. For PS3, though, not so much. It's still nice, but nothing new.
Poisoned Al @ Feb 28th 2007 1:21PM
Hey, something positive on the PS3! Yay! I'm a PC gamer so this place did seem to be turning into another Wii60. But then again, it's the arse end of February so there's bugger all games news at the mo. No wonder all the gaming sites pick up all the times Sony does anything stupid, because lets face it, there's no real news and Sony does something dumb on a daily basis.
Myke @ Feb 28th 2007 1:25PM
Poisoned Al - Hmm, strictly a PC gamer? So when you're not here laughing at all of us argue over console matters, what do PC gamers debate? I'm honestly wondering, I've never really gotten into PC gaming. Video cards? Whether 2Gig of Ram is worth it? Even so, I can't see PC gaming debates get as juvenile as some things on here. I'll be a console gamer for life, but PC gaming seems like a nice wine, while console gaming is something along the lines of pabst blue ribbon...IMO
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 1:30PM
@9
Just go to the software section at any big tech forum (like Anandtech). PC gamers sit around and debate video cards most of the time and geek out over how FPS they can pull at certain resolution in a specific game. Then they sometimes turn to bashing consoles and masturbate over the superiority of KB/M in FPS/RTS/MMORPG games. Trust me... I'm a PC gamer too and they are just as ridiculous on the whole as console gamers.
Draco @ Feb 28th 2007 1:32PM
Myke:
Pc gamers don’t do much arguing, but there is a shitload of bragging that goes around. I used to be a PC Enthusiasts and I got tired of people telling me my video card wasn’t l33t enough. And that 88fps or 145 fps or any random number isn’t high enough. (Even though 500fps only hurts you if your monitor can only handle 75Hz)
It’s a nice change watching the consolist bitch and complains about the other systems, it’s really weird to see people defend a faceless company as if it was their own mother, you would never see that in the PC elitists.
GJM @ Feb 28th 2007 1:36PM
Yay. Now I get to go home and be forced to do an update that will take forever to download and then forever to install all for a feature I'll never use.
PS3 interface = arrogance personified
Myke @ Feb 28th 2007 1:38PM
Wow, thanks for the insight guys, that was honestly interesting to read. Dare I say, that was the most interesting thing I've read on Joystiq for weeks, and that includes the articles.
Poisoned Al @ Feb 28th 2007 1:40PM
Hehe, what Draco says is pretty much it Myke. PC ownership is one huge, never ending pissing contest, seeing who get get the best out of their hardware before the thing overheats and melts into the centre of the earth. However we do take a break now and then to look down from out ivory tower to laugh at the antics of the console owning peasants below ;)
Joe_ @ Feb 28th 2007 1:40PM
Still Joystiq is pretty much a 360 fanboys web page. Look at how they start the article, they ALWAYS put something negative whenever it's related to Sony, it's true this web page it's more like a blog (so they can put whatever they want) but I'm hoping they don't think they are doing journalism.
Jason @ Feb 28th 2007 1:44PM
#15: You think Joystiq is "like" a blog?
GJM @ Feb 28th 2007 1:53PM

You.. are sad...
And my previous statement stays. Buy a PS3 and feel my pain.
Myke @ Feb 28th 2007 2:06PM
Al - Yeah, it really seems like alot of hassle to be honest. Almost like falling asleep owning the best gaming rig possible but by the time you wake up it could be outdated. That's something that would REALLY make me feel like I was getting ripped off no matter what I purchased.
JJC @ Feb 28th 2007 2:07PM
yippie! oh wait... who cares.
J.Goodwin @ Feb 28th 2007 2:14PM
Standard USB keyboards and standard 2.5mm wired cell phone headsets work just fine with the 360.
ssuk @ Feb 28th 2007 2:31PM
I can understand that Microsoft wants to make a product which gets them money, but it at least regulates picture quality between players, especially since the 360 is mostly about Xbox Live co-op, it's not fair if one user is playing a game like totem ball with a better quality camera than their opponent... But we all know this isn't the reason MS has restricted them to using the Vision Camera, it's because they want money. =/
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 2:34PM
@GJM
I really don't see how the update process equals the entire PS3 interface being 'arrogance personified'. I find it annoying I have to connect my controller via a cable when doing the update, but other than that the process is simple enough. And the XMB interface as a whole is very nice. It works well, is very fast to navigate, and has a nice clean look. I like the 360 interface too, but it does look very cluttered in comparison and isn't as fast to navigate. IMO, condemning the interface because of the update process doesn't make much sense... especially when the update process is rather easy.
Poisoned Al @ Feb 28th 2007 2:39PM
@ Myke. Oh yeah, you have to except the fact that no matter how much you spend, there will ALWAYS be someone with a better rig then yours. There will always be some nutter with a £3000 machine in a fish tank of coolant, overclocked to buggery. However most PC gamers without endless funds go for last month's kit. It isn't QUITE as fast as the top notch stuff, but it's close enough that it makes no diffrance and it's hell of a lot cheaper. One thing I envy about console owners is that they can just plug the thing in and play. They don't have to worry about how well their memory works with their motherboard or why their controlers keep cutting out (I had to turn off power saving to my USB keyboard because Windows was helpfully starving it of power). Not a cheap past-time ether. You have to build your own machine of course, because not only will you get treated like something that fell out of a dogs arse, you pay far more for a pre-build! "You bought a top end Alienware machine eh? Noob! I built a faster rig for £200!" But yeah, you avoid all the damn fanboys. A PC gamer cares little for brand names. AMD? Intel? nVidia? We don't care as long as it goes faster.
GJM @ Feb 28th 2007 2:50PM
@Vidikorn
The arrogance comes in when you take into consideration that the PS3 had one year to see what the 360 interface was like and make it equal to or better. The fact that it seems like they didn't even try and just assumed you would buy it no matter what they did is where I call arrogance.
My game column on the XMB, is becoming so long now with all the demos, store titles, and Resistance, that I can't imagine what a nightmare it will be to navigate in a year or two.
The thing that kills me the most though is the downloading and the firmware updates. At least on the PSP you could keep playing until a new game required it.
If the PS3 was $300, all would be forgiven. For $600 I expect the fine dining of gaming.
Myke @ Feb 28th 2007 2:54PM
Yeah, it seems like a fast moving hobby for sure. Us console guys just sit around hoping that our $400 launch system doesnt develop a fatal error 3 days out of warranty or suddenly have the carpet pulled out from under it like the Dreamcast (which I still believe is one of the greatest systems ever).
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 3:07PM
@25
How does it differ from scrolling through a list of XBLA games, other than being faster? IMO, the interface itself is every bit as good as the 360's... again, I'm just talking about the GUI itself. Secondary features like background downloading I'll agree should have been there from the start. But at that point are we talking about the interface anymore?
James @ Feb 28th 2007 3:24PM
That's the one problem I have with the 360. Microsoft says "This is what we want you to do with it". "We want you to watch only WMV". "We want you to buy our harddrive". "We want you to make programs for the system but we want you to pay us money to access them.
ill trooper @ Feb 28th 2007 3:29PM
What's cool is that I just plugged my 360's LIVE Vision camera into my PS3 after the update and it works. It didn't work before, so that's cool with me, as I don't have an EyeToy from the PS2 days.
"The arrogance comes in when you take into consideration that the PS3 had one year to see what the 360 interface was like and make it equal to or better. - GJM"
I would say that it IS equal or better to the 360's interface. It's the same concept but it's cleaner and faster. Now, as for what the 360 can DO with the interface, well, the PS3 has a long way to go... "Arrogance" is a strange word to use to argue your point. Yes, that column you mention might become a problem... But maybe there will be a folder system added. These are problems with simple quick fixes.
The 360 added camera support, background downloading and other features like MORE GAMES at a later points as well. So many people seem to forget the 360 went through almost all of these same growing pains.
GJM @ Feb 28th 2007 3:39PM
I really didn't want this to get into a vs 360 but I guess it has. Just because 360 took a while to have certain features means the PS3 should also? That makes absolutely no sense. Are you saying if the PS3 remains one year behind the competition throughout it's life that will be acceptable to you?
I have no doubt that there will be a parade of firmware updates to fix all the PS3 problems and that IS the problem to me. Each time there is a firmware update, you have to do it, you have to hook up the controller with the 3 foot cable to do it, you have to wait an unreasonable amount of time while it downloads, you have to wait another unreasonable amount of time again while it installs. I'm sorry, but simply put, it is a very poor setup.
A lot of times I feel like it is a chore operating and maintaining my PS3. And please don't respond that certain features are OK because the 360 blah blah blah. Let's pretend the 360 didn't exist. If something is no good, something being even worse doesn't now make it good.
Jon @ Feb 28th 2007 3:55PM
How can a positive news about PS3 owners being capable of using non proprietary products become a bitching ground between MS fanboys and Sony fanboys?

Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 4:38PM
@30
My main disagreement with what you are saying is that you seem to be willing to condemn the entire interface based on the upgrade process when, in fact, the GUI itself is very fast and easy to use. I agree that the firmware updates takes longer than they should, but we're still talking about a minute process here. It's not like it takes all evening or something. Also, I don't know if your comment was directed at me, but I agree that secondary features like background downloading should be there already. Sony should have seen those features being added to the 360 and done the same before launch. But I like the XMB itself. Really, the lack of background downloading is really the only major flaw with it, IMO. You may also add the firmware update process, but that's still a pretty minor "problem" overall. Other things like the ability to use standard bluetooth equipement and cameras is superior to the 360. So overall I consider both dahsboard to be very good. Even the Wii's is pretty nice. They all have good dashboards compared to last gen.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 4:41PM
Damn.. I can't type today at all. I meant to say the upgrade is a 5 minute process. It definitely takes longer than a minute.

Well, I do have to say this. You notice those USB ports on the front, obviously. Were you aware of an option, when doing an update, as to the source of the firmware info? Do you not have a PC? It's under a minute DL on your computer, put it on a flash drive, and BANGO, Speedy McQuickerson just smacked your biggest bitch down.
And yes, while it does suck needing to update firmware, despite PSPs long history of updates, they've yet to brick a console through them. Something Microsoft wishes they could claim. And if you remember, to update your firmware, you had to be 80% charged as well as plugged in so firmware updates on PSP weren't the most convenient things on the planet either.
Also, 3ft USB? I take it you have no stores where you come from. It's an $8 cable. You spent $500 at least on the console and you'll bitch about an $8 cable. You sir, are the very definition of a douchebag.
nerfgun @ Feb 28th 2007 8:55PM
Hey guys, there is a VERY USEFUL FEATURE included in this update that a lot of you haven't spotted yet...
The web browser can ZOOM now. Try it with the shoulder buttons. You can reposition the web page window or zoom quite a long ways in. It makes a HUGE difference when browsing sites with tiny type. Try it out.

So sheppy, now for an all new inconvenience. Download the new firmware to a USB stick (assuming I knew it hit before powering up the PS3), and do all of the other stuff you mentioned. Same crap, different hoops to jump through. The bottom line is, you should turn on the machine, click yes, and have it done for you automatically within a few minutes and without having to plug in the controller.
I could care less if no PSP has been bricked by firmware updates yet the 360 has. What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?
Also, I shouldn't have go buy an $8. For $600 they could throw in a 15 foot USB cable and a $15 HDMI cable while they're at it. I have 2 60" SXRD TVs, a Jamo/Denon THX surround sound system, and a MB Quart surround sound. You think I care about an $8 cable? LOL.

First off it's douche bag. And the definition is:

Bottom line: horrible firmware updates, horrible wallet system for the PS store (thanks for the Korean language glitch while purchasing flOw!), horrible patching of games (ie redownload the whole thing), trailers in stereo only, all movie files grouped together, all game files grouped together, no background downloading, can't recharge controllers without the system, no rumble, can't boot to OS, etc

I have always been a PS3 Fanguy i love it.360's not so much but in no way is the 360 a bad system. People wondering why PS3 didnt start out with some good feature that compareto the 360 now is because PS has to find a way to do it without copying 360. I work and Sony Corp US i know all this crap email me at canesniffer if you have any questions and i will emial you back with an answer. Apparently, sir, you don't use computers. Flash drives are the very opposite of an inconvenience. And hey, here you go. Warning of a new update. Or the PS3 will tell you. And it's not like the console quits functioning until the update is applied. Hell, I played for two weeks before applying 1.51 (and even then, just did it because of the BluRay playback glitch). Firmwares are annoying but hardly the breaking point of a machine.
"Also, I shouldn't have go buy an $8. For $600 they could throw in a 15 foot USB cable and a $15 HDMI cable while they're at it. I have 2 60" SXRD TVs, a Jamo/Denon THX surround sound system, and a MB Quart surround sound. You think I care about an $8 cable? LOL."
You were the one bitching about the 3ft cable. Here's a solution. And here you are "Think I care about $8? I'm so rich, my maid dusts off my balls while wearing a diamond g-string." Is it inconvenient to have to purchase a long USB cable? For some, maybe. For others, hell, it's so cheap it hardly seems unreasonable, especially to those like myself who literally have backpacks full of cables.
And while we're on this subject. Every console has their own little "extra" expenses. Like why do my Wii controllers come in two parts (at least) and cost an arm and a leg, and offer only the skill of eating batteries? Why does a $50 controller from Microsoft require an additional $12 for a battery? Face it, kitten. $8 as an option looks better in my mind but maybe it's just me.

You were able to go two weeks without using any online functionality whatsoever? Doesn't say much for your usage of the machine. Go back to my last comment. That is how the bios should be updated. To argue that would be mind blowing to me.
"Is it inconvenient to have to purchase a long USB cable? For some, maybe. For others, hell, it's so cheap it hardly seems unreasonable, especially to those like myself who literally have backpacks full of cables."
99% of people buying this console won't have a long USB cable lying around. 99% of people don't want to go back to the store to buy one just so it's more convenient to do bios updates that should be done as I already stated above. Stop arguing just to argue.

A complete throw away paragraph. You would be absolutley killed in a debate. Again, just because one person murders two people does not mean a person who only murdered one is OK.
"I didn't type a space. But yeah, sounds like you enough."
You didn't type the space because you are ignorant. Don't try to pretend it was a internet typo.

So because you rarely use the wallet it's not glitched? What does $1 = $1 have to do with what I said? Nothing. I've only used the wallet twice and it had issues. Please understand that. It's easy.
"horrible patching of games (ie redownload the whole thing),"

I'm arguing about now and apparently you're agreeing with me. When it is actually fixed, then we can say it's fixed. None of this I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
""trailers in stereo only,"

Well since you like to point out what the OTHER machines are doing. Most PC and 360 promotional videos for movies and games are in 5.1. If the PS3 is the be-all end-all of machines, why not their trailers?
""all movie files grouped together,"

In the 360 it's split into game trailers, movie trailers, etc. So the crime stands. Ever used iTunes? Categories are your friend.

Again, you're not going with the average Joe here. First off, you should be able to use regular batteries so you can play it right out of the box. No. I bought a console at launch because I buy every console at launch. I said those games couldn't get here any sooner becuase the machine needs some positive energy around it. Nothing right now? I thought I would enjoy RFOM, but oh well. I've enjoyed something on every console day one so is wrong to expect otherwise? Especially from a machine that so hyped by it's makers? It's pretty bad not to have at least one B+ title at launch.

"I like how you had no response to that or sycophant. Things you obviously can't think of answer too. To the rest of your 9 year old tirade..."
You bash the firmwares and I debate the bash. I make a statement that, while PSPs firmwares are annoying, Sony has yet to mass brick consoles. Something which Microsofts last March update accomplished with outstanding success. But I digress. And why did I not respond to your sycophant insult? Simple. I called you a douche bag, and you respond with a word you believe is so complex. Point is, you used a word that stood for a fawning follower. Someone who sucks up for the goal of personal gain. A yes man, in other words. And I wonder what part of your diseased skull even thinks my behavior on this thread could even remotely relate to the definition of this word. After all, who am I sucking up to, exactly, and what is the ultimate gain? So learn a word before you use it, douche bag.
"Apparently, I do, as I am responding to you. Not only do I use them, I build them, and I even use to program on them."
You could be doing this with you Wii. You are bound and determined, after all, to make this a pissing contest and your attitude of anyone who does not agree with you being an enemy does seem rather childish. Or was that a pointless burn against Nintendo. Oh well. If you are familiar with computers, you would know the painless endeavor such a thing is. I'm not saying it's perfect, nor have I ever made that claim. But updating your firmware is relatively painless no matter how you look at it. Annoying, yes, but still so easy even a Sycophant can do it. Wait, I just made your mistake. That isn't what that means...
"You were able to go two weeks without using any online functionality whatsoever? Doesn't say much for your usage of the machine. Go back to my last comment. That is how the bios should be updated. To argue that would be mind blowing to me."
Yeah it does, actually. Because when I have been playing PS3, it's been with friends. Physical entities next to me, crowded over pizza boxes and rushing through levels. To me, online will never replace four player splitscreen. Why go online with 39 strangers when three good friends can have even more fun. Not to mention splitscreen Ridge Racer 7. And, incidently, I never argued firmware upgrading couldn't be improved. I merely argued it's not the huge system breaker you claim it is.
"99% of people buying this console won't have a long USB cable lying around. 99% of people don't want to go back to the store to buy one just so it's more convenient to do bios updates that should be done as I already stated above. Stop arguing just to argue."
You need to cable anyway to charge. They packed in a cable. It's only 3 feet. For most, this is fine. For others, like yourself, more cable is needed and it's a very cheap option. Where, exactly, is the fucking problem? For someone who builds computers, you bitch about some minor shit here, dawg.
"A complete throw away paragraph. You would be absolutley killed in a debate. Again, just because one person murders two people does not mean a person who only murdered one is OK."
Fine, I'll just pretend the sudden need to keeping AA batteries in the house is a "feature" of a console and continue to bitch exclusively about the PS3. Boy, the PS3 sure is the sucks, huh? Douche bag.
"You didn't type the space because you are ignorant. Don't try to pretend it was a internet typo."
I'm sure you can point at the above and find typos as well. This is an internet forum, not a thesis.
"No. It's enforced if you want to use ANY online function (ie internet, PS store, etc)"
Actually, I bitched about this a long time ago when I was ripping CDs. Sucks, minor annoyance, get the fuck over it.
"So because you rarely use the wallet it's not glitched? What does $1 = $1 have to do with what I said? Nothing. I've only used the wallet twice and it had issues. Please understand that. It's easy."
How exactly is it glitched? I log in, add money to the wallet using a credit or debit card, it applies the money to my account and that money can be used in the store. I only started adding money before shopping after having to jump into the wallet system when paying for Hot Shots Golf 2. After that, I decided it was a pain in the ass, just like Microsoft POINTS and Wii POINTS. Except instead of going through the pain in the ass of having to either buy a card or buying the points in their online store, I have to go through the pain in the ass of adding money to the wallet. Same shit across all three consoles, just a different name.
"I'm arguing about now and apparently you're agreeing with me. When it is actually fixed, then we can say it's fixed. None of this I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."
If you can find me one online service that functioned as well as you expect Sonys to on Day 1, I'll shut up. But none have. You buy a console atlaunch, you expect this shit to be less than perfect. Hell, it took Microsoft two months before the first demo went up.
"Well since you like to point out what the OTHER machines are doing. Most PC and 360 promotional videos for movies and games are in 5.1. If the PS3 is the be-all end-all of machines, why not their trailers?"
Well, can't argue that logic. Just don't see how it's THAT important.
"In the 360 it's split into game trailers, movie trailers, etc. So the crime stands. Ever used iTunes? Categories are your friend."
Don't like iTunes. I have roughly 18 weeks worth of music according to them and no matter what sorting options they offer, I still have a huge heap of unsorted just because iTunes either cannot recognize imported music or it just doesn't like MP3s ripped before they became the standard. Truth be told, haven't dicked around with the organization of the XMB on PS3 too much. I have a few Code Geass episodes on and some Kids In The Hall. I do like how you can record a 15 second clip from the file to show up as a thumbnail reel though. So I haven't been stuffing this option as badly. MP3s sort well though. Also, game discs always go up top, demos seem to go below the PS store entries.
"Again, you're not going with the average Joe here. First off, you should be able to use regular batteries so you can play it right out of the box. Also, most people don't want to take their PS3 contollers to another device to recharge it. It sounds like you live in a studio apartment where everything in your life is within arms reach. This is not the case for most OTHER people of which the world does not revolve around. AGAIN, think average Joe here."
Umm, PS3 controllers ship with an 80% charge. They CAN take it out of the box and use it right away. And considering the high drain of Wii and 360 controllers, I'm thankful for the rechargable standrad.
"YOU said it before?! Who are you? Nobody. Who am I? Nobody. The majority of people want rumble. You are a complete pompous ass to argue otherwise."
If you state opinions, which you have, I can state opinions. That's all I stated, an opinion. You should look that word up too so you'll know how to use it properly.
"Who cares when it was added to the 360? What does the 360 have to do with the PS3? The PS3 should boot to the OS. Period. Your arguments are some of the weakest I ever encountered in my life."
One day, it will be a fix. See previous statement about how nobody's service is perfect day one. Launch system, launch problems, launch annoyances.
"No. It's pretty bad not to have at least one B+ title at launch."
Personally, I felt PS3 had two A level games. Resistance and Ridge Racer 7. It's all about opinion. I have mine, you have yours.
AirIntake @ Mar 1st 2007 3:48PM
hehe, RR7 an A level game... that's an opinion all right
Vidikron @ Mar 1st 2007 4:03PM
Damn... you guys are really going at it. But I have to say, GJM, you are REALLY nitpicking over stupid shit.
For example, you complain about the short USB cable. Fine. I agree, it should have been longer. But the 360 doesn't even come with a cable for the wireless controllers... so +1 Sony. And don't give me that shit about being a throw away paragraph and two wrongs don't make a right. We ARE comparing consoles here. You've been doing it the ENTIRE time. Also, the controllers come charged, so you CAN use them right out of the box. Not only that, they come with rechargeable batteries which is what more people prefer anyway. That's an extra purchase on the 360. The ONLY crime here is that the system won't charge the controllers after you shut it off. The 360 continues to charge them and then shuts itself off when they are charged. I do wish the PS3 did this, but it's not a huge deal since they charge in any USB port (I use my cable box).
Then you whine about how movies are organized. Come on. How many freaking movies do you have on there? This is pure personal preference. I kind of like having them in one spot instead of having to navigate to different areas, but then again I don't have dozens of clips on there. The PS3 does doa very good job of organizing audio is is MUCH more flexible with formats and ease of copying them to the system itself than the 360... but then the 360 has built-in ability to stream from a PC (can't copy though). So which is better is really up for debate.
The wallet complaint? No idea what glitch you are talking about. I've used it several times and had no issues. And real $ amounts IS better than Wii/MS points. Period. It's not like people haven't had glitches with Live Marketplace purchases too. But I haven't had problems with either one, so in my book the wallet is superior due to not using a gimmick like 'points'.
Boot to dash is one complaint I agree with. I don't like games being auto-booted. This should be an easy fix so I'm not sure why Sony hasn't done it already. You can get around it though by holding left or right on the controller as it boots. The will cause the XMB to scroll off the games section and the game won't boot. Annoying? Yes. End of the world? No. I used to have to push the media center button on the 360 remote to keep it from auto booting games before than added that option. I lived with that I can live with this.
Also, quit bitching about the background downloading. Damn. Yes, it should have been there from the start. Split milk now. But as Sheppy stated, it's a scheduled fix. So what's the point on continuing to bitch about it? It's being address and has an actual date. Basically your only grounds for complaint is that it's not here now. Fine. But it's scheduled and is close, so it's just stupid gripe now.
Stereo only promo videos... I agree with Sheppy, you're digging deep to pull that complaint out. I hadn't even noticed. Might as well whine that the 360 doesn't have any 1080p videos. I could likely come up with dozens of complaints about each system if we're going to nitpick that much. Seriously, at one point you tell Sheppy to stop arguing just to argue... well, hello? Pot, meet kettle.
Rumble? Hmmm... I miss it sometimes. But it has tilt sensing. An extra feedback has been exchanged for a versatile input. I'd would have liked to have both, but only the Wii has that... and they traded away HD graphics. So no system has everything I'd like, good thing I own all 3.
Vidikron @ Mar 1st 2007 4:11PM
BTW...
[You didn't type the space because you are ignorant. Don't try to pretend it was a internet typo.]
Don't even bother pulling that shit with me. You've got mistakes in your posts too. Almost no one proof reads this crap before posting. Also, I'm at work and am having to handle various tasks as I type. So I'll type some, then do a work task, then type more, etc... But I'm not getting a grade on this, so I don't care.
GJM @ Mar 1st 2007 4:20PM
"While PSPs firmwares are annoying, Sony has yet to mass brick consoles. Something which Microsofts last March update accomplished with outstanding success."
So instead of refuting what I said you just repeat yourself. So again I say what Microsoft has done is meaningless in this argument. AGAIN: just because one person murders two people does not mean a person who only murdered one is OK.
"I called you a douche bag, and you respond with a word you believe is so complex."
I don't believe it is complex word whatsoever. It is just a word I feel represents how you come across in every post you make.
"You could be doing this with you Wii. You are bound and determined, after all, to make this a pissing contest and your attitude of anyone who does not agree with you being an enemy does seem rather childish. Or was that a pointless burn against Nintendo."
Thank you for describing yourself to a tee. I never started an argument, I stated opinions. Opinions which you have tried yet failed to counter with a mature and well informed opinion of your own. I also like how YOU mention the Wii, I don't, and then somehow I made a pointless burn against Nintendo. Do you even realize you're insulting yourself now?
"Oh well. That isn't what that means..."
That's all I ever said was that it was annoying. Now you're agreeing yet saying I said something else so you don't look as stupid. Your then purposeful misuse of the word sycophant is embarassing. I'm sorry you're a sycophant. No need to take it out on me.
"Yeah it does, actually. Because when I have been playing PS3, it's been with friends. Physical entities next to me, crowded over pizza boxes and rushing through levels. And, incidently, I never argued firmware upgrading couldn't be improved. I merely argued it's not the huge system breaker you claim it is."
This goes perfectly again with me saying the world doesn't revolve around you. Almost every opinion you state is based on a very narrow minded vision shared by you and very few others. Heaven forbid someone OTHER than YOU wants to have a 40 player death match or download something from the PS store. Again, I never said it is a huge system breaker. You keep putting words in my mouth. I listed a bunch of annoyances that ADD UP to a "system breaker" (which is still to harsh in my opinion).
"For others, like yourself, more cable is needed and it's a very cheap option. Where, exactly, is the fucking problem? For someone who builds computers, you bitch about some minor shit here, dawg."
You keep bringing up how cheap things are even though I repeated endlessly that price is not the issue. Reading comprehension is your friend.
"Fine, I'll just pretend the sudden need to keeping AA batteries in the house is a "feature" of a console and continue to bitch exclusively about the PS3. Boy, the PS3 sure is the sucks, huh? Douche bag."
Yes, why have AA batteries as an OPTION be a good thing? What a douche bag I am.
""You didn't type the space because you are ignorant. Don't try to pretend it was a internet typo."
I'm sure you can point at the above and find typos as well. This is an internet forum, not a thesis."
REPEAT: You didn't type the space because you are ignorant. Don't try to pretend it was a internet typo
""No. It's enforced if you want to use ANY online function (ie internet, PS store, etc)"
Actually, I bitched about this a long time ago when I was ripping CDs. Sucks, minor annoyance, get the fuck over it."
So let's get this straight, you say something doesn't have to be done, I prove it does, and then you agree with me (thus countering yourself) and go back to showing how you're the center of the earth again and I have to "get the fuck over" it? I think you need to get the "get the fuck over" yourself.
"How exactly is it glitched? I log in, add money to the wallet using a credit or debit card, it applies the money to my account and that money can be used in the store. I only started adding money before shopping after having to jump into the wallet system when paying for Hot Shots Golf 2. Wow you are all over the place on this one. It's glitched because the text changes to Korean sometimes halfway through the transaction (as I already mentioned above, but I'll excuse you yet again as your retention is so poor). You said earlier "Truth be told, I do $20 drops so I rarely have to go into the wallet." Now you say you only went in once?
"If you can find me one online service that functioned as well as you expect Sonys to on Day 1, I'll shut up. But none have. You buy a console at launch, you expect this shit to be less than perfect. Hell, it took Microsoft two months before the first demo went up."
I don't expect it to be perfect, but when other people have already made the mistakes for you, and you still make them, I believe that is unacceptable from the TOP VIDEO GAME COMPANY IN THE WORLD.
""Well since you like to point out what the OTHER machines are doing. Most PC and 360 promotional videos for movies and games are in 5.1. If the PS3 is the be-all end-all of machines, why not their trailers?"
Well, can't argue that logic. Just don't see how it's THAT important."
It's not THAT important. It would just be NICE in this day and age when almost everything is in 5.1.
""In the 360 it's split into game trailers, movie trailers, etc.
Wow. How did I know you didn't like iTunes before you even responded. My point wasn't iTunes, it was CATEGORIES and my point stands.
"Umm, PS3 controllers ship with an 80% charge. They CAN take it out of the box and use it right away. And considering the high drain of Wii and 360 controllers, I'm thankful for the rechargable standrad."
Both of my PS3 controllers required charging so I guess I was just super unlucky. Again, I could care less about comparing to the other guys.
""YOU said it before?! Who are you? Nobody. Who am I? Nobody. The majority of people want rumble. You are a complete pompous ass to argue otherwise."
If you state opinions, which you have, I can state opinions. That's all I stated, an opinion. You should look that word up too so you'll know how to use it properly."
I state my opinion, you say it's wrong, I argue, and now your pissed. LOL. My opinions are a list of annoyances that add up to a lackluster machine, your opinions are just counters of ways to get around those annoyances assuming you live in the special microcosm of ways that you live in.
"Personally, I felt PS3 had two A level games. Resistance and Ridge Racer 7. It's all about opinion. I have mine, you have yours."
But the general opinion is what counts overall and RFOM is a B level game while Ridge Racer is a C level game. The world does not reveolve around us.
GJM @ Mar 1st 2007 4:23PM
@Vidikron
I expect spelling and grammar errors in all posts including mine. I was specifically singling out that one usage of "douche bag". It's like when someone spells "ghost" as "goste" - you know it is ignorance and not an internet typo.
Vidikron @ Mar 1st 2007 5:33PM
@49
But how do you really know? We talking about a difference of one space here. That's a pretty common mistake. Anyway, it's a shame that name calling was brought out, so I can understand the desire to burn him on it... but, really, that whole point should just be dropped. It has nothing to do with any of this. IMO, you should just take the high road and leave it be. Nothing to really be gained by calling him ignorant in return.
