Sony unveils launch lineup for Euro PlayStation Network
The PS3's launch day in Europe is set to be filled with wanton punching, devastating explosions and utterly callous driving -- and when new PS3 owners finally get home, they can experience even more of that. Sony has announced a trio of downloads that will greet European PlayStation Network users on March 23, namely Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (costing £6.99), Blast Factor (£3.49) and the Gran Turismo HD trial (£0).Other games slated for the online network are:
- 30 March: Super Rub-A-Dub, a touching study of the social intricacies found in a group of inanimate ducks!
- 6 April: flOw, a relaxing aquatic adventure with many a mingling microorganism!
- 13 April: Go! Sudoku, a game stunningly devoid of ritualistic suicide!
- 20 April: Go! Puzzle, a gripping crime thriller following a fugitive jigsaw piece!

Hmmm... a game about rubber ducks, another game that's already free to play on the internet, and two sudoku games. All those "hardcore" gamers out there who dropped $1,000 for their PS3 must be hardly able to contain themselves. *YAWN*

Why is Sony forcing the EU to wait for games that are already available in the U.S. and Japan?

$1000? The system is $500-600. Also, this is post able the PS Network line-up, so what else do you expect to see there?

60 GB unit + a couple controllers + 3/4 games is $900+
What, are you going to buy the stupid thing and just sit there looking at it?
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 2:18PM
Oopps... double post.
But just so this post isn't useless, does anyone know what type of game(s) are in Go! Puzzle? Not really my type of game, but my wife will likely want this game. She's a big fan of puzzle games and we have pretty much every puzzle game on XBLA and Go! Sudoku on PS3.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 2:22PM
@6
Or you could just buy 1 game? Adding an arbitrary amount of games and accessories just to pump up the number to make your point is pretty lame. Not counting PS Network games and taxes, the minimum to play a game on a PS3 is $550-560.
Either way, this is a news post about the PS Network, so you point is rather meaningless anyway.
ssuk @ Feb 28th 2007 2:24PM
@4 (& 5 I suppose): No, moron. £425 at an exchange rate of 1.97 dollars to a pound, It's over $800, which was then rounded up by our friend here. Why do you think we're complaing about the price of the god damn thing?
Marty @ Feb 28th 2007 2:24PM
My point is that the releases are weak, and don't warrant the cost of the system. Even at ~$600, playing with rubber ducks, an otherwise free flash game, and a couple of sudoku clones just isn't worth it.
Scoyle17 @ Feb 28th 2007 2:30PM
Actually, the PS3 is a damnsight more than $600 in Ireland. With a little delight known as VAT, we have to look forward to paying about $800 for ours, couple that with a few controllers and games and you're definitely pushing $1000
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 2:57PM
@10
But, again, what does that have to do with this post? Seriously, is it really necessary to spin everything Sony related as a negative? This is just the PS Netowrk line-up.... that's it. I fail to see what other games or even the cost of the system really have to do with this.
@10
Hey, dispshit, read my comments above. What does any of this have to do with PS Network games?
Stef Geiger @ Feb 28th 2007 2:57PM
... You guys seem to be forgetting that the Euro launch of the PS3 will probably have the biggest and by far most impressive game lineup of any launch so far. That's what's really important. PSN titles are icing on the cake at this point.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 2:58PM
Meh... my second comment above should be directed at ssuk (#9).
Slaziman @ Feb 28th 2007 3:14PM
Well Vidikron, maybe we are talking about the fucking EUROPEAN(!) PS Network launch line-up, then your retarded ass comes here and say "it's only $500-600". It's not $500-600 to us, and we aren't wetting our pants for these retarded PS Network games, let alone on a $900 system. That's why this line-up recieved a mighty yawn from #1. Does little retard SDF member understand now?

Petey @ Feb 28th 2007 3:18PM
@Vidikron... in GB PS3 is 425£=835$, add 1 game 39£=76.5$... so a toatal of 911.5$ for the console + 1 game... far from your 600$ figure you are talking... with the 311.5$ diference, you can buy a Wii(including WiiSports) + 1 game + 1 VC game... unless 300$ is nothing to you, in wich case you won't mind donating me the 300$ in question...
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 3:23PM
Yeah, yeah... you guys are right about the price. This is a US site so I tend to think in terms of US pricing. But my point stil stands... WTF does it have to do with the PS Network games? Nada.
@Slazima
STFU you twit. Here's my gaming room:
http://www.thraxen.com/extras/games.jpg
You can shove that 'SDF' crap up your ass.
BPM @ Feb 28th 2007 3:26PM
"Go! Sudoku, a game stunningly devoid of ritualistic suicide!"
Confusing sudoku with seppuku, eh Ludwig? :P
Slaziman @ Feb 28th 2007 3:29PM
OMG poor little boy got dissed and his only retort is "STFU you twit"? What this has to do with PSN games is that the console is near $1000, and we are getting CRAP on PSN, for almost $1000 you would expect the thing to toast bread, not crappy sudoku and free online games. Since when is a SDF member considered someone who only has a PS3? SDF member stands for "asshole to continues to praise a console that's quite obviously trash, and tries to spin all negative news about said console to make them look positive". Next time spell my name right asshole.
Jason @ Feb 28th 2007 3:34PM
Easy there ladies, there are plenty of video games for everyone to have a least favorite.
Shagittarius @ Feb 28th 2007 3:37PM
If that rubber duck game was comming out on the Wii everyone would be crying, 'ZOMG genius! A game about rubber ducks, no way Sony could ever have something as creative as this! $ony for teh loss!!!one!1"
But since its on the PS3 its automatically a lame concept and game.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 3:37PM
@lsazmnia
Where was I singing its praises here? This is a post about the release list of PS Network games for Europe. It has nothing to do with cost of the system. It's just the line-up. Could ANY game in the PS Network warrent the price? Does any game in the XBLA warrent the price of the 360? No. It's the fvcking arcade. We all know it's expensive...we've fvcking known that for months. Using that logic you may as well whine about the price in any thread about Sony. Why don't you go bitch about the price in the firmware update thread too?
Slaziman @ Feb 28th 2007 3:37PM
In case I wasn't clear, I'm only talking about the PSN games, the "real" games could very well justify the price of the PS3 in Europe, but those PSN games are pretty weak, and on a very expensive console to top it off.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 3:40PM
@24
And like I said above, no game in the XBLA warrants $400 and no game in the VC warrants $250 for the Wii. That my point. And you seem to agree with that since you say the actual "real" games my justify the cost. Glad you finally get it.
Slaziman @ Feb 28th 2007 3:43PM
Okay, you don't seem to get the point.
FACT: These PSN games blow
FACT: The console is expensive
What I mean is that those PSN games are NOT a selling point for the PS3, because they blow and are outmatched by XBLA, on a cheaper console. Of course you aren't gonna buy a PS3 just for the PSN games, but for the price of the PS3 you'd expect EVERYTHING to be top-quality, but you get sucky games instead. That's the whole point. I might buy a PS3 some time, but the PSN games won't be a factor in my decision, because they blow.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Feb 28th 2007 3:45PM
BPM,
Yes! That's sort of the joke, you see. :)
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 3:54PM
And you seem to miss my point. Why does every single thread have to degenrate into Sony bashing? All this news item was about it the PSN line-up. It doesn't make any claims about those games justifying the cost. And, no, just because it costs more doesn't mean you should expect all the games to be the best. That's up to the devs. You are paying for the technology. In this case that includes things like the BR player... which, as you can see from the pic I posted, I clearly make use of. Was it smart move to include the BR player? Not sure yet. It clearly seems to be having a negative impact on console sales, but it appears to have boosted BR movies sales... at least in the short term. So whether the overall impact is positve or negative for Sony has yet to be seen.
But my point is that you are paying for the technology (BR player, cards reader, wireless built-in, 60 GB HDD), but that doesn't ensure good games. That should be a given and understood. And, again, that's really a totally separate issue from the PSN games. No REASONABLE person would expect the full console price to be justified by those games anymore than they should expect the XBLA arcade to justify the full price of the 360.
If you want to claim the PSN line-up is weak... Fine. If you want to compare it to the XBLA games... fine. But to make a statement like #1 and act like people actually expect the PSN games to justify the price of the PS3 is beyond pointless... it's just plain stupid. If you want to be part of that worthless argument, go ahead. Take your place in line with the rest of the fanboys and their non-sense. And, again, STFU about SDF. I'm far, far, far, from that. I'm much further from being a fanboy that you can ever hope to be.
Slaziman @ Feb 28th 2007 4:09PM
I wasn't bashing Sony, only this PSN line-up. It's trash, where it should be good when it's on an expensive console. Why is it bad? I don't care, I'm not blaming Sony for it, but it is bad, and shouldn't be used as a selling point for the PS3. I expect quality from an expensive console, yet it is not there on the PSN games line-up.
XBLA can be a reason why you'd think: hey, that's pretty cool, and the Xbox 360 has all these games too, man this console is cool! Man the VC allows me to play games I've never been able to play before, that's really cool, now I don't have to go to shady sites for ROM's or search carts on E-bay, the Wii is looking more and more attractive! But the PS3 must impress with it's full games, and it's full games alone, which makes people think: why am I paying $900 for this again? I'm not saying Sony sucks for it, but so far the PSN games aren't impressing.
Vidikron @ Feb 28th 2007 4:25PM
Finally getting somewhere. Again, this all started from that stupid post #1. You've gone done a different road in asking if it is one of the selling points. I'd say it depends. You call the games bad, yet you couldn't have even played Go! Puzzle or Super RaD. Sudoku is a love/hate type of game. I couldn't care less about it, but my wife loves Sudoku so we have Go! Sudoku and she loves it. flOw, by most accounts, is a good game. But it again seems to be a love/hate sort of game. So is it a selling point? I'd say it has less content than the XBLA when the 360 launched, but I wouldn't call it bad. Either way, everyone buys consoles, to a large extent, based on future releases anyway.
Personally, I prefer the PSN over the VC, but less than the XBLA. I like original content and older games with achievements and online play. As such, I have no interest in the VC right now. While it maybe "shady" as you put it, my modded Xbox (also seen in pic) is capable of playing games like SMW at 720p/1080i and is a far more enjoyable experience than the VC can provide.
KevMac @ Feb 28th 2007 5:37PM
Why do American game sites always include the UK sterling price but not the Euro price when talking about a European game story.
90% of Europe uses the Euro currency (including here in Ireland).
It would be like reporting a U.S. game story and quoting the Canadian dollar price only.
Keith @ Feb 28th 2007 7:20PM
Nice spin, mention the crappy games, ignore the slew of new releases for EU Launch...
Austin @ Mar 1st 2007 11:27AM
Contra and Street Fighter, that warrants the 360's price.
Austin @ Mar 1st 2007 11:32AM
#31 - we use the UK pricing because they speak english and no one likes the French.
