Ken @ Mar 1st 2007 11:17PM
Sweet. More of the same crap, but better graphics.
I hope I'm wrong. But yeah... I'm not holding my breath for something new in this one.
philpott @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:10AM
Alright, hand it over to the hype machine. How many other brands can just lay down a number and a countdown clock and make me wet my pants?
Sure, I haven't been enthralled with the last two PSP installments, but this is the brand spankin', newly reconditioned Grand Theft Mutha! IMO - Nuff said.
KC @ Mar 1st 2007 11:54PM
Oh boy. *sarcasm*
They better hope to step it up.
Saints Row beat em to the punch on a lot of things.
It better be AT LEAST better than that wannabe gta game.
Exick @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:06AM
Rockstar is really going to have to deliver with this game. It's going to be hyped beyond all belief.
REUYL @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:12AM
I know I'm weird, but I think a GTA set in Germany would be teh pwn.
Random, but it's hard to make conversation about a timer.
dantebk @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:20AM
Think about the craziness of this for a second.
If Vice City and San Andreas weren't GTA IV and V, but instead just -- what? subsets of GTA III? not really true sequels to the GTA franchise?
Then think how different this upcoming game has to be to justify the title of # IV.
THINK ON THAT!!!! THAT SHOULD BE BLOWING YOUR MOTHERF***ING MIND RIGHT NOW!!!
steve17 @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:27AM
I JUST MESSED MYSELF!!! FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG SWEET! san adreas is 3 years old. i cant live much longer without fresh GTA
fffunfarm06---xbl @ Mar 2nd 2007 3:30AM
that is very true. gta IV better be mind blowing to justify its name. i really think its gonna be like cuba or something. like in a different country like england..
Grunge @ Mar 2nd 2007 5:43AM
Let us not forget that they've already been to London with the series.
Ben @ Mar 2nd 2007 6:28AM
Sweet! Rockstar has to love me since March 29th is my birthday and I'm turning 18.
OTAM @ Mar 2nd 2007 6:38AM
This game is gonna have to turn up the heat because Saint's Row launched up the bar for this sandbox gangster genre. I hope Rockstar isnt going to ride on 3 letters on the front of the box to sell copies. It was different with your closest competition being True Crime: Streets of LA,but now there is Saint's Row they're going to have to kick their asses in gear.
Nate @ Mar 2nd 2007 7:58AM
OMG! Those other sandbox games were NOTHING compared to GTA! Yeah sure, you could walk around, shoot people, and steel cars but they were all missing some very important elements... Variety, freedom and fun, just to name a few.
I personally cant want wait for this next installment. With Rockstar being the pioneers they are I'm sure they got some good things up their sleeves!
Kurt @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:33AM
Jack Thompson coming on March 29th.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:40AM
I think what they should do is set it in Tokyo Japan. That might sell a few 360's there. I guess MS would have to pay RS to do that, though.
samfish @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:36AM
I shall continue to not care about this game.
sabe @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:44AM
Dont you get it? Its not going to be set in a single city. Why would they move backwards when they managed 3 cities, a countryside, the badlands, and a friggin desert into the PS2's San Andreas? So stop saying "London, or Tokyo, or where ever". Its not even going to be set in Cuba either, Just Cause has that kind of South/Central American theme, and so does the upcoming White Gold, not to mention even Scarface. Rockstar will put it in a completley different area thats never been done before and London and Tokyo have been done. Remember how San Andreas kickstarted the whole Urban/Gangsta kind of games? Yeah. 4 is going to be completely original, and do what San Andreas did. Also, to #15, youre right, I stopped playing Saints Row about a month after I got it, and right after I beat it, I never picked it up again, even with Online Multiplayer. With the GTA series, I become helplessly addicted to it and Im still popping in San Andreas today, 3 years after it came out. No other game will have anything on GTA4.
SuperMario21 @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:02AM
I can't believe they actually announced that the TRAILER is coming out soon...why don't they instead tell us when the game is coming out. I guess I'm in the minority by not getting hyped about a TRAILER.
Agent MOO @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:01AM
Ok, you all keep bickering, and I'll just sit here with my eyelids taped open staring at that countdown clockwork orange style.
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:13AM
I guess I'm in the minority by not getting hyped about a TRAILER
Yea, look at your user name. "SuperMario21". That kind of gave it away.
Yashar @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:12PM
All other GTA wannabes like Scarface and Saints Row were really weak to medicore games and GTA: San Andreas is still the best sandbox game out there and one of the best action/adventures of last generation. But it wasn't GTA4, it was merely an extension to GTA3.
Now enter the GTA IV, the biggest baddest mf and this is R*, the studio that made The Warriors and Table Tennis ENJOYABLE, which could have been really bad but that team made them A+ games. GTA IV, its GTA, its next gen, it will be based on R8's own engine, it will have ONLINE multiplayer and true sequel to the classic masterpiece GTA3. (If only GTA IV had some hot coffe)
dantebk @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:32AM
Jack, please do not turn this into a pointless system war. I love Nintendo and I love Mario and I love GTA. It's all good.
SuperMario21, they have said the release date. It's October 2007. We're excited about the trailer because we love GTA and want to know what the next game will be about, what it will look like, what sort of innovations we can expect.
When I was a kid, I remember playing NES and wishing they'd make a single game that incorporated fighting, shooting, racing, flying, all in one big crazy action movie storyline, and Rockstar fulfilled that with the GTA franchise. I am CRAZY PSYCHED about this trailer!!
Exick @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:33AM
"I can't believe they actually announced that the TRAILER is coming out soon...why don't they instead tell us when the game is coming out."
Because they have already: Oct. 16th in North America and Oct. 19th in Europe.
Greg2k @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:55PM
Damnit, that's too soon for a trailer; what, the game will be here in less than a year? I was going to buy a PC with a low end GPU in order to save up for a kickass one around the time of GTA:IV's PC launch. Now I'm going to have to save up money a lot faster.
Never thought I'd say this...
Max Boyer @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:51PM
Honestly I think it will be set in Liberty City, though you'll probably be able to venture out to other nearby cities a la San Andreas
So far all of the 'numbered' GTAs have been set in Liberty City, and I can't see them shaking this trend
Lord Chako @ Mar 2nd 2007 3:24PM
I really hope they pull out all the stops. It will sell millions of copies regardless whether it is more of the same or not. It just seems like Rockstar has been stuck in a rut since GTA3.
I mean GTA3, GTA3 Vice City, GTA3 San Andreas, GTA3 Liberty City Stories, GTA3 Vice City Stories, are really all essentially the same game. All they've done is tweaked the stories, and added some different side missions, and charged us $50 for it.
I really hope they take IV in a new direction.
To those saying IV is going to be completely different, because all the others were just side quests of three, so IV has to be completely revolutionary. GTA2 wasn't really different from the original GTA (yes, i've been playing it since the original came out). They added gangs, and made the city bigger, but it didn't stray much from GTA1. They did take out the superbike though, which pissed me off. That sucker was fast. And I miss the elvis impersonators.
All in all, I not trying to dog GTA, I just really hope they take it in a new direction. Because if it's just essentially GTA3 with shinier graphics, I am going to be really disappointed.
Also, trailer doesn't always mean gameplay footage. Just something to think about.
jc @ Mar 2nd 2007 5:09PM
It better be London. I'm so psyched to find out. I wanna see those next-gen visuals. The trailer better not be CGI though it probably wont be. They've had a working engine for at least a year already (table tennis).
GTA is all about story, characters, and craziness. Gameplay is good but saints row, crackdown, and countless other sandbox games all offer that. No one yet offers the GTA experience that the GTA3 trilogy games had.
Though I predict GTAIV might be smaller than San Andreas which would suck. But better graphics means new limitations.
wackychan @ Mar 29th 2007 9:41PM
OMg! Im going bald over this game!
