I like it! Looks a little like BlastCorps for the N64, a game I was hoping would show up for the Wii via the 'virtual console.'

I'll check it out.

I wish more games would use cartoon style graphics. They always tend to look better and more timeless.

This is Calling All Cars?? In my copy of EGM the developers were saying this game is "Beatles Pop songs" for the Playstation Online while Xbox Arcade games are "Ashlee Simpson pop songs".

Are they serious?

Wow, that looks like a fast version of Lego Star Wars, but without Legos, and without Star Wars, but just really fast pointless crap. Might as well be Wing Commander: Arena On Wheels.

Anyone remember the old dos/win hybrid game from back in the day called Ignition?

This looks almost exactly the same.

This is actually looking a lot like Cel Damage.

Cell Shading: check.
Car combat: check.
Big hammer/blade/gun on the front: check.

@Burnt Meatloaf. No no, I'm all about pick-up-and-play. I love the concept and the graphics, but the gameplay looked lame to me. It looks like RC Pro-Am without anywhere in particular to go, which makes me assume you can drive all over the place and do whatever, but that video didn't convince me there was much to do anyway.

Not impressed.

So this is why I need to buy a 600 dollar Cell processor adult video game system PS3. I guess its not all about the graphics.

I guess I'm pretty much the only person seeing the heavy Twisted Metal influence to this game. It literally looks like a cartoony Twisted Metal (and let's give credit where credit is due, what was Cel Damage aside from a really, really shitty TM clone with a gimmick?) with a new scoring system (delivering the criminals) and an RC Pro Am view. I have to admit, it looks fun but I've been avoiding news on this so it's quite a big suprise to me.

wow people... this game may not be the graphics powerhouse that people are expecting on the ps3 but fuck, its an arcade game! i dont think it looks a whole lot different (or better than) a lot of the 360 arcade games. lay off im sure this game will be atleast decent. after all its made my david jaffe.

i would love to play another twisted metal game. i loved twisted metal black, that game was amazingly fun back in the day.

And yet Wii owners go on and on about how graphics don't matter, while being completely enamored with BOWLING, for god's sake.

Is it not odd that a game the likes of which Nintendo *should* be making is hitting the PS3's downloadable service instead? Where are the Wii games that aren't rehashes, aren't activity simulations and aren't DS ports? Oh, they're apparently on the PS3 instead.

Last time I checked, Nintendo didn't advertise the Wii as some graphic powerhouse that could do everything short of curing cancer. It also didn't cost consumers over 600.00.

Sony however, did both.

That my friend is the difference.

Wow... WTF? Some interesting comparisons here... BlastCorps and Lego Star Wars?? RC-Pro Am with no place to go??? Damn, people. It's basically a vehicular combat game with a twist. So of course you can go all over the level, just like any other vehicular combat game. And it's nothing like the first two games I mentioned.

This is David Jaffe's brainchild. For those who don't know, David Jaffe was part of SingleTrac when they developed Twisted Metal 1 and 2. He then returned to Sony with some other members of the original Twisted Metal team as the developer currently known as Incognito.... the developer that created Twisted Metal: Black. Given that, it's easy to see this game's roots and those roots ARE NOT Cel Damage.

@22

It's a PSN game. Just like an XBLA game or a VC game. It's not meant to be a graphical showpiece. The ENTIRE point of the PSN/XBLA is to provide cheap and easy to develop games. As soon as you start expecting these games to blow you away graphically the "cheap" portion goes away.

What's your point? Jaffe is an awesome developer so obviously people who are familiar with his past are excited about this game. It's not even a fair argument anyway. If the game turns out to be crap and it sells well anyway then maybe you'll have a point, otherwise your statement is meaningless.

Can you really blame people though?

I mean, I see cartoony cel shaded cars shooting shit at each other - it's not that far of a jump. I'm not saying it plays like Cel damage , just that it looks like it.

wow. once again the joystiq community turns a simple, average PS3 story about a downloadable game into a negative.

for those saying that this title doesn't justify the $600 price tag...*sigh*. i'm not even going to...wait, yes i am: you people are fucking stupid.

IT. IS. A. DOWN. LOADABLE. GAME.

to continue, the game is meant to be cheap and fun.

an old school game with a simple premise, but lots of fun to be had.

obviously, you guys are too young to remember that, back in the day, that was Nintendo's M.O on the NES.

most of the quality games on that console were cheap and fun (though, of course, they were charging us $50 a pop back then).

the X Box Live Arcade, PS Store, and Virtual Console are the 3 manufacturers ways of not losing our past, while still embracing and working within our gaming future and the market that it has evolved into.

i may have issue with all 3 companies at time, but i can totally respect them bringing us actual classics from gaming past, but also bringing us some new classics, and new games with a classic feel (such as Alien Hominid, Calling All Cars, and even flOw).

i'm simply not seeing the negative with the release of a game that will probably be under $10.

sure beats $50, and, say, $20 for Metroid (which is how much that title cost when rereleased on the GBA).

Fuck dude, THERE ARE A BUNCH OF HATERS IN THE HOUSE...

I don't recall so much vitriol being spit forth when a post about CASTLE CRASHERS goes up. Or when an NES version of 'Zelda' goes up on the Wii's virtual console...

You Sony haters really need to look into what you type and why you type it. (That's a rhetorical question, by the way, I don't REALLY want to hear about how you're mad about Phil Harrison, or how you saw 20 PS3s at BestBuy yesterday).

Every company has it's closet full of broken promises, but you guys only seem to remember what Sony said. It's laughable, but especially, it's getting BORING and annoying, how worked up this sort of announcement gets you guys! Get over yourselves. Really... Some of you act like you BELIEVED these companies when they told you marketing fluff, then come on the internet like scorned lovers!

Personally, I own a PS3 (as well as a 360 and a Wii) and I'm glad to see the PS3 games start to trickle out... The only console I play on a regular basis is the 360 right now. Unless someone comes over who's never seen the Wii, then it's a few minutes of bowling. But even that isn't happening much anymore. Nintendo is on the brink of a Wii 'game drought' too.

SO... if you want to bash, please be consistant and hold your standards up to the Wii as well - remember when Nintendo called that box the 'Revolution?' Because while I love my Wii, can we really call 'Bowling' and an internet polling channel 'Revolutionary?' You likely haven't pained through a Wii session on an HDTV on the composite cables, something you won't want to do for the next 4 years... I'm playing the devil's advocate here, I understand that when you buy a console, it's not just for Wii Sports, Resistance, or Calling All Cars... It's for the lifetime of the console.

This old 'I wouldn't pay $600 for that' thing is garbage, because I don't know anyone who would... Again, we buy these things for the LIFETIME of the console. More games are coming for these systems.

I can't consider you dudes gamers, when you bash games and game releases... Do you guys even PLAY games? Or do you just hover over these blogs with a bag of catchphrases to dump on any topic you don't like?

And Vidikron... "And it's nothing like the first two games I mentioned. [BlastCorps]" Well, actually it is, in my eyes - when I mentioned BlastCorps I was specifically thinking of the racing levels later in the game, where you have a 'General Lee'-type car.

I have to say, I agree with ill trooper 100%. Surely the only people who should compare console sales are Microsoft, Sony and Ninetendo?!? While all of these companies produce machines we (the gamers) benefit from a greater selection of games which, last time I checked, was the point. I also own a PS3 and X360 and think they're both excellent consoles in their own right. X360 has a year on PS3 so of course you'll see more selection and quality on big white tower - the developers have had far more time to get used to it.

So this is a car shooting game - good! Anything new on Playstation Network is good to see and don't forget, whether you download it or spend your money elsewhere is up to you.

Just stop knocking PS3 before it's had a chance to build a mature niche for itself. It's getting really boring and just too much deja vu - remember Dreamcast vs PS2, Saturn vs PS, SNES vs Genesis and on and on and on.
