Conan impressions from THQ Gamers' Day
Beyond the violence, Conan looks to sport solid, if not uninspired mechanics. Looking past the usual combo and experience systems, interacting with the environments already looks hugely entertaining with tons of hazards in which to torture enemies with. Any weapons they drop can be picked up, dual-wielded and utilized with their own unique statistics and combos. And if giant swords aren't your style, Conan possesses some mean grappling skills that are straight out of the world of professional wrestling. We'll admit it. We marked out when Conan popped some guys head off with what appeared to be the Canadian Destroyer.
Scheduled for an early 2008 release, the developers at THQ seem to be in good shape despite the overall clunkiness we witnessed. It also must be pointed out that Conan is a single-player experience without any multiplayer or online modes to speak of. They may not be reinventing the wheel, but we're looking forward to getting some hands-on time with THQ's half-naked hero.

You know, every time I see one of these 'Conan' headlines I expect Conan O'Brien to be featured.
And then I get disappointed, 'cause a Conan O'Brien game would be kick-ass. "Watch out enemies, masturbating bear attack!"
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:33AM
This game looks crazy.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:34AM
That game is very manly. If only it had actual Arnold phrases and grunts dubbed in off of the original Conan movies...

Can a brotha get some vsync up in this mofo?
Dark_Jedi @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:12AM
My goodness, What if young Tommy sees those pictures?
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:18AM
But would Arnold Conan stand a chance against Future Conan?
The game sounds cool.
scott @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:18AM
I played this the first time when it was called God of War.
I played this the second time when it was called Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. The so-called "grappling" and decapitation/bodyslicing moves were in MK:SM as well.

Looks great.. the 360 needs a good ultra-violent slasher.
I'm sold.
ackmondual @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:02AM
What is best in life?
"THE WIND WHIPPING THROUGH MY HAIR"
"A FALCON AT MY WRIST"
"A FLEET HORSE BENEATH ME"
What is best in video gaming?
"TO CRUSH THE ENEMY!"
"TO SEE THEM DRIVEN BEFORE YOU!"
"TO HEAR THE LAMENTATIONS OF THE WOMEN!"
Those lines (not alone) would certainly make the game worth it
Arglor @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:44AM
anyone else notice that the weapons are suspended off the ground... just floating up in the air.
very odd.
ss @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:44AM
I really don't like the camera on this video and to be frank God of War looks more fun.
But, this definitely has much better graphics, so it should be worth a buy ;)

I liked the moves of the game, and it almost sounded like one of those 'Aaayyys' was very similar to one that Arnold did in the movies.
However, was it just me or did every 'sploosh' where the bad guy was cut open sound exactly the same? I think that would get old really quick.
Tyler @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:50AM
I wasnt impressed, the graphics looked nice...but the animations and how things were hit was very meh.. I hope they do more work on that before they release it
Genius @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:57AM
Wow... looks just like God of War, they could have at least changed it a bit if they wanted to copy it. I miss the old days of gaming when there was more originality and less people copying every hot title on the market just to make a quick buck.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:04PM
I don't understand why people are comparing this to God of War then saying it doesn't look as fun as GoW as if that is a meaningful statement. If you only play games that are better than God of War, you won't be playing very many games.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:11PM
So any game where you run around and violently hack n' slash stuff is a God of War ripoff now. This game looks exactly how I'd expect a Conan game to look. I think I could just as closely compare this game to a number of games that were out before God of War. It really isn't a ripoff, just falls in the same genre of games. Unless you have some specific details that I am unaware of.
WEEZY @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:14PM
this game framerate = choppy.
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:16PM
Beat-em-ups weren't always original 'back in the day' either. It's mostly you either love them or you don't.
HenryJonesJr @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:26PM
This game looks very good except for the camera. The camera's movements are tied way too closely to the character's movements. If the developers detached the camera, made it somewhat stationary with more cinematic angles, basically set it up like the God of War camera (which this game obviously takes its inspiration from anyway), I think it would look a ton better.

Good thing you said PRE_ALPHA.
Because the soundeffects were crap.

COMING TO YOUR HOME IN 1995 --- ONLY ON NINTENDO ULTRA 64!!!
Kibbles @ Mar 2nd 2007 3:52PM
I liked this game better when it was called 'God of War'
Phil @ Mar 2nd 2007 5:16PM
Wow, are these guys serious? If that isn't a complete bite off the opening to God of War I don't know what is.
And you know, fancy texturing and high poly models aside, God of War actually LOOKS better. People forget that solid design and great animation can go a long way.
Zero interest in this title from this point forward.
