What are we hiding, exactly? MS has a quality control issue. The launch 360's had a number of manufacturing problems. The processors ran too hot (then again, everything based off of the PPC architecture has a tendency to), the cooling fans would occasionally be installed backwards, and some of the memory was clocked up/down from what it should've been. These were things that should've been looked for and weren't. I acknowledge this quite openly, and, to be blunt, you'd be delusional not to. Anyone who doesn't accept that such a problem does exist is blind, a fanboy, or both. The only positive thing that came from the PS3's 8 month delay was better manufacturing. To somewhat make amends for it, Microsoft offered extended warranties and refunds for the owners of defective launch 360's (and this rule later carried on those manufacture during last year). Setting aside the warranty increase, this was something Microsoft would never have had to do if it had the proper quality controls in place (which, to some degree, it does now).

Anyway, I'm one of the many who is still on his first 360 and if I wasn't, I wouldn't whine and expect a handout. Sh*t happens. In a perfect world, the year old rear differential on my '77 GMC stepside pickup wouldn't have gone out, its carburetor wouldn't be missing an idle screw (you guys think you get bad gas mileage, I get 10 mpg on a good day), the RAM in my PC wouldn't be dying, and my TV wouldn't have pixel burn on the left side. Unfortunately, we are imperfect creatures and our creations reflect this ugly truth. And it's not 20%, it's closer to 5%. If you have 10,000,000 Xbox 360 owners, 500,000 of them will most likely have a defective unit in some fashion. Defects will also start popping up in the Wii and PS3 when they start moving more units but most likely never to the same degree as what the Xbox 360's faced with.

One thing, rfom, that also needs to be considered (as far as bricking goes) is the fact a small number of the people complaining about getting shafted by MS has tinkered around with the firmware and doesn't want to fess up to it after they got popped. Microsoft checks Xbox 360 firmware during an update and if you've messed with the Xbox 360's security schemes (and the same will most likely go for the Wii and PS3 at some point), they'll shut you down remotely. Sony does the same thing to PSP users.

I've had quality control issues with nearly every console I've owned that has an optical drive in it. My first Gamecube's DVD ROM motor burnt out 8 months after I bought it, my PS2 started to get disc read errors a month after it went out of warranty (instead of complaining about it, I did what I could to fix it), and my Xbox had the same problem until I swapped out the Thomson (every DVD-rom manufactured by Thomson usually bites the dust 1 month to a year after the Xbox is booted up for the first time) drive with one manufactured by Philips. My 360, thus far is fine, and the only issue I have with the Wii is that it struggles to pick up a wireless signal 1/2 of the time. If either of them burn up, you won't hear me complain. Both aren’t necessities, and they’re easier pills to swallow than the $1500 needed to make my truck more than a 1:1 scale model.

Tekken DR? yeah Tekken 5 was an excellent game. FOR PS2 and PSP.

do you notice it was a 555mb download? forget Blu-Ray, forget DVD even, you could fit that on a Playstation1 CD-ROM.

and that's your big $600 PS3 justifier?

Hope you know the difference between streaming data from 4x DVD-rom (5.4MB/sec) and a 2.5" SATA HDD (80MB/sec), and by the way, go educate yourself before you spout such crap again.
I'm still wondering why you are comparing arcade/PSP game to next gen PS3 games.

i was responding to a poster #48.

who was boasting how "next gen" his PS3 is, and then citing that game.

that was my point exactly, i certainly know the difference, why are we talking about arcade/PSP games when talking about next-gen?

I didn't think this was news. I thought they were obligated to do this! When I was at Disney's Blu-Ray FAQ, they said that, as part of the BD standard, EVERY BD player would upscale DVDs. This means that it was Sony's own requirement as they set the standard. It's bad enough the the PS3 doesn't pass DTS HD 7.1 audio, but this is a feature I was promised and expected all along.
#2 needs to understand that this is a software update.
#3 needs to understand that some TVs will not upscale a digital input. For instance, my Sony KV-30XBR910 is equipped with the industry's best tube (Sony 30" Super Fine Pitch with XBR image processing). DVDs look BEAUTIFUL with the included image processing. Unfortunately, when I switch my PS3 from component to HDMI/DVI, I get scanlines and a dim standard-def interlaced 480i screen. That's worse than I CAN get with any other input, though it's interresting to see such crisp scanlines. ;)
