Today's Princeliest game video: Prince of Persia Wii - Levers & Ledges [UPDATE 2]
Ubisoft released some video a little over a month ago showing off the motion sensitive "waggle" technology for the upcoming Prince of Persia:Rival Swords on the Wii. Today two more videos have hit the web, and one of them shows off the joy and singular pleasure of ledges and levers. Check out that Wiimote waggling and nunchuck flicking action at work. With Disney getting behind this with a possible feature film franchise, look for the Prince to be around for some time to come.
You can also check out the other video that was released today: Climbing and Combat. It's a bit longer, but is also drool-worthy. We're ready to start running on walls and doing acrobatics around poles right now.
UPDATE to the UPDATE: GameVideos now has the correct videos uploaded, and that's what we're featuring here now. Enjoy.
And to still quote Tina Fey to you naysayers: "Ya burnt!"

Errrm, it looks like the gestures have nothing to do with the video shown. I don't think it's right...
NeverSage @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:40AM
That looks... awful
FinalBoss @ Mar 2nd 2007 12:43AM
Ditto that. Plus, maybe next video they'll get some body who has actually played through the level before. Though if it really is being controlled with the Wii remote, the control isn't all that bad judging by his constant progression.
Oliver @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:02AM
When he jumps sometimes it doesn't even look like any buttons are being pressed by the guy let alone any gestures, thats just odd, still I guess it looks Ok since I never played two thrones.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:05AM
Yeah that might be the worst PoP player I've ever seen. Oh and Oliver, you should try Two Thrones, excellent stuff.
Martez @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:15AM
Two Thrones is the best of the PoP games. And yeah, the Wiimote footage looks totally out of sync, or the guy just really really sucks.
will @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:20AM
Yeah the problem is there's no coorelation between the remote and what's going on on-screen, when anything happens at the same time it's coincidental. Most of the time he's moving around the stick, but nothing's happening. Or when the Prince is really active, the guy isn't moving his hands.
Would have been nice to have someone at the studio know what the fuck they were doing with such a controversial subject.
Jake @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:20AM
I'm sorry, but I don't see how the Wiimote adds anything to the enjoyment of that game. I'd rather play that game with awesome graphics and either a Wiimote or a dual analog.
NeverSage @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:32AM
@Jake
Yeah, this is exactly the kind of shit I did NOT buy a wii for. Any game that comes out on multiple systems (aka, not designed specifically for the wii) I'll get for 360.
I never played two thrones. I just hated Warrior Within so much. The glitches made it unplayable. I had to start over after 6 or hours because my guy magically became a zombie and I couldn't progress. Fuck that.
Sands of Time is one of my favorite games, though.
mushiking @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:51AM
it looks frustrating. he could barely do a simple wall-run with Wiimote.
Matt @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:12AM
this is just proof that the Wii is going to be a failure in the long run.
Kevin @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:17AM
I think a badly synced up video hardly shows how "the Wii will be a failure". The game itself looks cool, and I'm all for the motion sensitive controls.
Gavin @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:22AM
So, instead of rotating a joystick to open a gate you wiggle the remote. Wow...what a huge step forward for video game. This changes EVERYTHING!
lol
cg @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:35AM
Judging from those graphics the sands of time really do work. they made me feel like it was about 5 or 6 years ago.
Al @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:41AM
I like how the little 'control demonstration' doesn't seem to make any sense. Did they mix up the videos or something?
Also, more developers need to learn that the Wiimote and Nunchuku aren't the only options. Why not support the classic pad as well? (not sure if this game does or not). It's got to be easier to map the controls to the classic controller than it is to use motions.
GO @ Mar 2nd 2007 3:15AM
Wow this is PS1 graphics right here, did you see how many walls just didnt have ANY textures what so ever?
I dont see how the wii is 2 gamecubes when it cant even do GAMECUBE graphics!
NeverSage @ Mar 2nd 2007 4:08AM
@GO
I don't doubt the graphics won't be spectacular on the Wii version... but come on. You can't tell shit about textures in this compressed video.
And to all you guys who say the wii will fail because it isn't suited for POP: you're pretty fucking dumb. The DS would suck for POP too. I guess that means it'll fail. Better dust off your PSPs.
kevinski @ Mar 2nd 2007 6:18AM
This is definitely the sort of game that doesn't belong on Wii. Well, I suppose that it'd be all right if they added support for the Classic Controller, but - otherwise - I'd rather play something like this on another console.
t_m @ Mar 2nd 2007 7:10AM
i don't get why they are re-releasing Two Thrones..
its already sold really well across all platforms, there can't be many people out there who haven't already played it.
Surely it would make much more sense to re-release Sands of Time! Not as many people played it and those that did so played it a long time ago.
They could make more dramatic changes to SoT by updating the graphics and adding in the WW combat controls. Any changes to TTT are gonna be minor, except for the wiimote.
Plus, its by far the best of the trilogy. Best story, best levels, best puzzles, best everything.
(ok, i do, its the stupid whip thing)
supremespleen @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:21AM
Haha wow, you guys are a bunch of assholes.
Get a life.
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:37AM
I'm sure glad you guys don't care about graphics. Well I guess you get what you pay for.
Rob @ Mar 2nd 2007 8:44AM
so wait, if you flail you're arms while playing Wii, Wii is stupid, but if you DON'T flail your arms while playing Wii, Wii is stupid.
Just want to make sure I got this right.
brian @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:00AM
Stop with the Wii bashing fucker.
whosmav @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:14AM
I don't want to play that game.
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:15AM
It's hard not to bash the Wii. Wii gets TT and 360/Ps3 gets GT4, Skate & Indiana Jones. Sounds retarded to say Wii is the better console this gen.
Unit @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:18AM
Damn, why didn't nintendo make their controllers like everyone else! why'd they have to go and be different. Why couldn't they just be like the ps3 and keep the same damn controller we've been playing with since the ps1. Remember folks, gamers don't like change!!! we don't need leaders only followers!!! CHANGE=GARBAGE!!...end sarcasm.....
Dr_Love @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:20AM
Exactly Jack of No Trades! Because we all know that the only game coming out for the Wii this year is Two Thrones. Seriously, I freakin' LOVE reading your comments.
Unit @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:25AM
@#26 that's true you're getting new games(wii's gettin them too) but i like how you put alot of faith in games like skate or indiana jones. Have you secretly demoed those games? Just cuz they look nice doesn't mean their gonna be hot. And ea hasn't been setting those "next-gen" systems on fire as of late(def jam icon anyone?)
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:36AM
@29
Ok, lets get real. You guys get one good first party game a year. The third party games the Wii gets are horrible (just watch the video above). To claim the Wii is the best "gaming" system is dumb.
Think about it. You guys have zelda, mario, another mario, another zelda, ssb, another mario strikers, and metroid.
The 360/PS3 have Motorstorm, Halo, MGS, Skate, Mass Effect, Turok, Blue Dragon, FF, Lost World, Indiana Jones, GT4, Halo Wars, Assasins Creed, C&C, Frontline......
How the hell does the Wii stack up to that?
WizarDru @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:43AM
Glad to hear that the videos aren't synced. I was beginning to think the control system was unintelligible. Which it may still be. I'm waiting to see a video that shows if the controls are worth bothering with, frankly.
Hilarious @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:02AM
All you need to says is Super Smash Bros Brawl(X) and thats it. Thats how Wii wins.
WizarDru @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:03AM
"How the hell does the Wii stack up to that?"
Pretty easily, actually. Because there are plenty of NON-first party games coming out. First off, if you're going to go for the 'ha ha, youz guys get lame repeats', then you forgot Animal Crossing, Kirby, Fire Emblem and Pokemon...if you're going to try for the slam, put some effort in, mang.
Second of all, the games you easily dismiss are sequels to some of the most well received games of the last generation. Further, you haven't hit all of the First Party big games coming up, such as Day of Disaster, Batallion Wars II or Project HAMMER. Then you've got third party games like Dewey's Adventure, Alien Syndrome, Manhunt 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Dragonquest Swords, Naruto, One Piece, Heatseeker...and yes, even Cooking Mama.
Of course, not everyone equates one console as being 'best' for one thing. Some of us can play Zelda, God of War II and Gears of War and enjoy ALL OF THEM. I'm not a one console man, myself. Sorry you're missing out on the fun.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play the GOOD Sonic game of this generation (that'd be on the Wii) and then later I'll try the God of War II demo and then play some Gears co-op online. Let me know how that one-console approach works out for you.
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:10AM
Jack of No Trades asked:
"How the hell does the Wii stack up to that?"
"Think about it. You guys have zelda, mario, another mario, another zelda, ssb, another mario strikers, and metroid."
:)
@ WizarDru
I'll enjoy my single-console endeavors very much. I'll have 50-60 games on it rather than 20-30 on 2 systems. I'm actually considering a second system but I can live without one. :)
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:12AM
Lets try this again..I guess you don't see clearly...
Your trying to put Halo up against Cooking Mama lol wow!
Motorstorm, Halo, MGS, Skate, Mass Effect, Turok, Blue Dragon, FF, Lost World, Indiana Jones, GT4, Halo Wars, Assasins Creed, C&C, Tenchu Z, Resident Evil 5, Tekken 6, Eternal Sonata, Frontline......
Day of Disaster, Batallion Wars II, Project HAMMER. Dewey's Adventure, Alien Syndrome, Manhunt 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Dragonquest Swords, Naruto, One Piece, Heatseeker, Cooking Mama.
Crono @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:13AM
Its unfortunate that the "good sonic game" of this generation is still so bad that I took it back the day after I bought it. Seriously, it sucks. Its not a fun game. And if the PS3/360 version is worse, then sonic team needs to switch careers.
SEGA MAKES MURDER PORN!
Jack of No Trades @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:15AM
@ Crono
Today will be a entertaining day! I promise. TGIF
samfish @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:33AM
Ah, Jack is here. All we need now is JJC and this thread will have been fully shat on.
deaftly @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:57AM
yawn, tacked on motion crap from a game i beat years ago
LoserMLW @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:24AM
JOAT:
It's not even comparing Halo to Cooking Mama. The bottom line is not everyone likes or values specific games in the same way everyone else does.
Personally? The Halo games have done NOTHING for me. But, I played Cooking Mama on the DS - so I'll probably play it on the Wii.
No one is doubting that the 360 and/or PS3 have some great games coming out. The simple fact is that the Wii also has some games coming out that will be worth checking out (as mentioned above by WizarDru)and that there is no reason why anyone couldn't enjoy any of them.
If you want to limit your gameplay experiences to one or two consoles, go for it. More power to you. Just leave a LITTLE bit of your mind open to the fact that your opinion means as much as mine does - or as little - as anyone elses.
I'm just glad that we live in a world where we can argue/debate about games at all. I'd much rather do this than have to worry about where my next meal is coming from, or if my home will be standing when I get there.
Tyler @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:50AM
did someone say tacked-on? cause i think i heard someone say tacked-on
Daniel @ Mar 2nd 2007 11:54AM
Sonic and the Secret Rings is pretty good.
I still like the 2d Sonic games much better, but it's definitely the best 3d Sonic game they've made.
I never did like Sonic Adventure.
s @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:32PM
game looks cool but i think the guy with the wii remote is not really controlling the game
Crono @ Mar 2nd 2007 1:33PM
Personally, I like sonic adventure way better. I own it on gamecube, and was quite impressed with it on Dreamcast. That should have been the last sonic game made, because after that it started to suck, really bad.
I just find it suprising that sega, one of the best software companies out there in the snes/genesis era and the Dreamcast era, has become one of the worst in what amounts to less than a generation.
Sega should have never stopped making hardware.
Almack64 @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:28PM
Dreamcast FTW!!
Anyway, I just wanted to second #40 LoserMLW's comment. It's not about comparing this with that. Almost Every other day for the last 2 weeks my wife has been asking me if I knew when Cooking Mama was coming out. She could care less about Halo. I'm personally about to go rent Sonic and SSX (and could also care less about Halo). With that said there are some 360 and PS3 games that I will like to play sometime but I'm really happy with my $250 system...if only it could play CD's and DVD's...
Mr Khan @ Mar 2nd 2007 4:31PM
I'm too busy playing good games like Sonic and the Secret Rings to play crap like this...
Agent MOO @ Mar 2nd 2007 4:35PM
that guy is playing like a toolbox. nuff said
Vidikron @ Mar 2nd 2007 6:27PM
@46
Oh... wow... I hope that was a sarcastic comment.
NeverSage @ Mar 5th 2007 4:35PM
@WizarDru
I agree. You sir get a gold star.
