GameTrailers.com hacked
Late this weekend video game media site GameTrailers.com found itself on the receiving end of a joyfully implemented internet shenanigan. Hacked by a not-very-mysterious source, it seems the miscreants didn't do much more than defile the home page, alleging that someone other than MTV "owns" them and making sure we know how to get in touch with them for more witty banter. GameTrailers is back up and running now, serving delicious content as if nothing ever happened.[via digg]

I wonder what the hackers group who did this is called.
CowboyGA @ Mar 5th 2007 10:26AM
It's 10:25 here and this is the first news from Joystiq? C'mon, writers, POST!
Myke @ Mar 5th 2007 10:28AM
Well the way you damn kids jump on all the bloggers for posting rumors/opinions/not-news-worth/obscure/fanboyish articles, I wouldn't be in any hurry to post new stuff either.

I fucking hate g00ns. I've had them fuck up more than one activity while I was in it. They hacked a TeamSpeak server that we were doing voice interviews of PurePwnage on. They completely fucked it all up. They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
azesino @ Mar 5th 2007 10:31AM
I have been looking at my news somewhere else.... its so slow today at joystiq
benjamin @ Mar 5th 2007 10:37AM
I can understand hacking sites that have viewpoints that are highly contested or serve up hate speech or vilify someone, but seesh, it's GameTrailers. What argument could you have against them?
"Lolz, the high quality trailer that they provided is in 720p when I distinctly wanted 1080p! I'll show them!"
sheppy @ Mar 5th 2007 10:54AM
And still, this is nowhere near as entertaining or pathetic as when militant republicans trashed democratic campaign areas in Second Life.

Sigh, I hate these "1337 h4x0rz" that deface websites and steal shit. They're the kids that were picked on during school and hide behind Internet anonymity to "wreck havoc" on the Internet.
I bet if someone actually met one of these rejects, they would be lowly IT support people at some major business and take out their frustration by "h4xin6" things and talking shit.

Anything new on the Anna Nicole Smith?

Maybe this is just me, but there are two types of hackers in my opinion: Those that hack for skill, and those that hack with malicious intent. The ones that hack for malicious intent are assholes.
This is an example of skill. The guy hacked the site, pwned them and then left it go so they knew that they need to beef up their security. In my eyes, that's a public service.
ck @ Mar 5th 2007 12:42PM
Yeah, but when you hack something, don't just say "Saweet! I own you guys! FU, man HAHA!" That's pathetic. That's like doing a prank call at a video store and asking them if they have gay porn - c'mon be creative. Apparently all their energy went to hacking the site and not making fun of GameTrailers for being, say, owned by MTV. Lame.

All these game specific youtube clones are crap. The embedded videos never work for me.
Krayt @ Mar 5th 2007 1:47PM
ZOMG SLOW NEWS DAY!1
Also, the g00ns are funny. They don't hack stupid crap like some others that show off by hacking Phillipeans government sites, they hack commonground for American internet users. At least they help show how vulnerable many of the mainstream sites are.
Grant @ Mar 5th 2007 2:25PM
you need to compare hacking to pretty much any other sort of "attack".
Like crimes there are ones that are just done for personal gain, and these people are no better than petty theives, albeit probably graduated highschool.
on the other hand, there are people who hack things for political reasons, who want to make a statement, instead of just causing mischeif and problems.
if you're hacking to make a point, good for you. our country is based on free speech and i consider your hacking about as malicious as someone holding up a sign behind a newscaster when they are reporting.
on the other hand, ther other guys are just running up, stealing the mic, and punching the newscastor in the head.
Poisoned Al @ Mar 5th 2007 3:27PM
Just more proof how crappy GameTrailers.com is IMO.
