makes me wish i had a ps2, or a psp, oh well
sheppy @ Mar 5th 2007 5:35PM
Two questions...
1. Is this where the story and cliffhanger (according to many reviews) of GOWII concludes?
2. Or will this game finally tackle the subject of Kratos's brother?
And, of course... please say it's not just a port.
Robert @ Mar 5th 2007 6:18PM
Honestly, I'd totally take a port of either GOW or GOWII for the psp. But a new story line would be great as well. This game is the ONLY reason I'm keeping my psp.
Nino @ Mar 5th 2007 6:20PM
DAMN!
I love GoW for the PS2. This sucks because there's no way I'm getting a PSP (I feel like there's no need to own two handhelds) so I don't want to hear about it getting any good games.
Ah well, it wouldn't be as good on a handheld anyway. It's the kind of game that's better suited for a console.

Nino, the PSP is a portable console. It has a ton of great games (rich and deep due to the ammount of space that can be put on a UMD) and it has a web browser which can play lots of web based flash games (like lot of DS games, only free), plus it can play movies (via UMD or memorystick), music (with visualization), slideshows, rss, and more plus it has accessories like camera and gps modules.
Shane @ Mar 5th 2007 7:02PM
There you go Nino, when you can't have something you say it won't be as good.

At this stage they'd sell more if was on the DS. Their loss.
Psaakyrn @ Mar 5th 2007 7:17PM
I kinda want more good games to come out for the PSP. There ARE good games there, just still currently insufficient to justify a purchase.
required @ Mar 5th 2007 7:25PM
Psaakyrn, the system definitely has enough (hundreds) great games to justify a purchase. Here is a sampling: http://psp.ign.com/index/choice.html
required @ Mar 5th 2007 7:29PM
jay, the DS does not have the power to support the class of titles the PSP has. For example, look at how Burnout looks on a DS http://ds.ign.com/articles/673/673092p1.html versus the PSP http://psp.ign.com/articles/650/650814p1.html the DS is more for short simplistic 2D games.
sheppy @ Mar 5th 2007 7:53PM
blah blah, psp rocks...
blah blah, psp sucks...
By this time, pretty much everyone has formed an opinion on the PSP and it's damn difficult to convince people they may or may not be wrong.
Alex @ Mar 5th 2007 8:04PM
And you only had to buy an awful game to get a "teaser" of another. What kind of a mongrel actually enjoys this craptrash?
jay @ Mar 5th 2007 8:20PM
required - Low poly version, would still sell. That's why SE are taking Dragon Quest from the home console/PS2 line to the DS. A super huge market will simply do anything where scalable gameplay is concerned.
required @ Mar 5th 2007 9:00PM
jay, I agree that plenty of people will buy almost anything DS related (brainage), but don't overlook the fact that the PSP market is big. Also keep in mind that developers like to have fun with their work and don't enjoy the drastic downscaling required with the DS (heck few enjoy the screenscreen stylus thang that's going on with it either).
sheppy @ Mar 5th 2007 9:01PM
"And you only had to buy an awful game to get a "teaser" of another. What kind of a mongrel actually enjoys this craptrash?"
This kind of mongrel, shit licker. God Of War was one of the most cinematic and gorgeous action games ever made. Well written, well produced, and proved once and for all, yes, a super violent game CAN be about more than the level of violence it displays.
I would expect you to understand BUT you just called a game that's major complaint is "it's difficult to adequately build upon the first in significant measures but that speaks more of GOWII's foundations than shortcomings" a crapfest.
FLAME ON!
Mike @ Mar 5th 2007 9:12PM
I never understood the hype over this series, especially a PSP port. God of War is decent, but nothing spectacular. Jaffe's just another egomaniac that thinks he shits gold.
Alex @ Mar 5th 2007 9:32PM
"a super violent game CAN be about more than the level of violence it displays."
Oh yes, it's about tons.
So, um, what exactly is this game about, if not solely violence?
sheppy @ Mar 5th 2007 10:04PM
Mike, find me ONE interview where David Jaffe is acting like an egomaniac.
Alex, you really want to know the plot or is this the typical "it's pointlessly violent trash" high horse some people get on and ride all around the Mario Party board?

is sony/ign still hiring?
how are the benefits?
do u get dental?
eagleclaw @ Mar 5th 2007 10:44PM
God of War copies items used to navigate through dungeons and what not but what's a Sony fan to do when Miyamoto isn't in their camp? Oh that's right praise God of War and claim that it's the game of the century because it comes action-packed with violence and adult subject matter with gruesome blood that oozes blood from the PS3 commercial!
Actually it's more on par with Prince of Persia games rather than EAD's finest software developers in the world. Sony immitates while Wii60 innovates.

@20
is that why Gow2 has been rated over Twilight Princess by pretty much every publication existance? nah, couldn't be.,=
BPM @ Mar 6th 2007 3:50AM
Required, the problem with comparing Burnout DS vs. PSP is the development teams. Legends PSP was done by Criterion (ya know, the guys who did every game in the franchise?). Whereas Legends DS was done by Visual Impact (ever heard of them before? Yeah, neither have I).
Graphics weren't the only problem with Legends DS, the entire game was broken.
I think it's due to the time of console life the game was made. At the time, the DS wasn't the huge success it is now, so EA may not haven't wanted to take the risk of making a GOOD Burnout on DS, so they outsourced the project to Visual Impact.
Were they to make another Burnout for DS, they might actually have a talented studio work on it (maybe even Criterion?).
And what's with the GoW PSP hate? We know nothing of the game, and yet people are already crying "port." Sheesh.
(I may have no interest in GoW, but I'm not gonna bash it, either)
Jaks @ Mar 6th 2007 6:01AM
sheppy props for that comment, I think you nailed that one.
Rubang B @ Mar 6th 2007 7:27AM
I don't think you can call God of War a "series" until there is more than one game. I think it becomes a series the day the second or third game comes out. Until then, it is a successful "game," but not a successful "series." I'm just arguing semantics here people.
Rubang B @ Mar 6th 2007 7:36AM
@mushiking,
"is that why Gow2 has been rated over Twilight Princess by pretty much every publication existance? nah, couldn't be.,="
I just looked up both Twilight Princess and God of War II at Metacritic. GoWII has 3 100's so far. Pretty nice. They are GameSpy, GamePro, and the Onion's A.V. Club. Twilight Princess got 100's from those 3 as well, as well as from 19 other critics. I have no fucking clue what you're talking about. If GoWII is getting better reviews by "every publication existance" as you say, who are these magical 19 critics that give scores over 100 that aren't covered by Metacritic?
Hey, GoWII might be totally awesome, but it's not out yet, we haven't played it, and um... you're lying. Good night everybody.

"Lookee what 1UP's James Joy discovered on the back of the God of War II instruction booklet"
Yes, he discovered it. Much in the same way that Columbus discovered this continent.
Plaid Ninja @ Mar 6th 2007 3:50PM
I do truly hope this isn't just a port.
Someone said it might sell more if it was on a DS.
Yeah, it might sell more, but lets be honest, it might as well be called God Awful. The DS does not have the power to carry the amazing visuals or the epic gameplay.
I still firmly believe that its a true tragedy that the PSP is losing. It still seems like the fight between a Pinto and a Ferrari is ending with the Pinto winning.
Keith @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:36PM
I think the story will be awesome, because SCEA always does great with story, but all together I think it will suck on the PSP. GOW and GOW 2 are extremely demanding games when it come to controls, and the PSP lacks the controls needed for GOW
TJ @ Apr 4th 2007 3:42PM
I used to hate on the PSP, claimed it was overpriced. Now that I have one, my tune has changed. Sony will only continue to sell more and more PSPs now that ps2 is dead and ps3 is overpriced. I have a Wii. I borrowed and played twilight princess. I got tired of talking to frogs and fish. Gave that crap back. GOWII is fabulous, the scale is amazing, and I can't wait for the psp version to come out.
