LEGO MMO in the works by indie dev NetDevil
Independent game developer NetDevil (Auto Assault) announced today a partnership with The LEGO Group to develop a MMOG based on the colorful little building blocks. Few details apart from the brief announcement were given, but a representative from LEGO told Gamasutra the game would merge social interaction with physical play. A virtual community where you can build things with LEGO blocks? Yes, please. The game will likely be aimed at children, but that won't stop us kids who have jobs from giving it a try. After all, everybody loves LEGOs.
[Thanks, Phillip]

Sounds like it could be cool. Not to sound picky, but the plural of LEGO is "LEGO" or "LEGO bricks", not "LEGOs".

Blockland 2?

Like this stands a chance against HKAL (Hello Kitty Adventure Island).

"Blockland 2?"

lmao free sign up for all lego fans
I would click that link.. but I don't think I'm XTREAM enough.
I'm tired of paying each month to play a game, why are so many MMOs being made?
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 5th 2007 6:18PM
Oh this shit better be on Wii. :)
Night Elve @ Mar 5th 2007 6:25PM
@ NintendoFanbot.
Mii MMO
:O

you gotta be kidding me
Rubang B @ Mar 5th 2007 6:27PM
This is the best idea I've ever heard. It's like paying a small monthly fee for an unlimited supply of virtual LEGO. I'd like to see some X-TREAM guilds on it that only build the most awesomest giant cans of Mountain Dew.
Rubang B @ Mar 5th 2007 6:38PM
Hey look, that XTREAM guy spelled "Mii" wrong.

Thanks for the old news. Now how about some new news?
Back to topic, I'm particularly worried about how object-tracking will be handled, since Lego inherently involves a LOT of objects. if it's done server side, there's a LOT of data transfer needed, while if it's done client side, there's a high potential for abuse..
Psaakyrn @ Mar 5th 2007 6:47PM
Deletion of posts makes me feel like talking to myself. XD

dude. all the fun wothout dumping a drawer full of legos on the floor. i would play it. sounds more fun than pokemon MMO.
Kunikos @ Mar 5th 2007 7:05PM
How long do you think it'll take before someone makes a giant lego phallus on little Timmy's monitor and his mom sues NetDevil?
Xiath @ Mar 5th 2007 7:09PM

The comments above talk about a game called "Blockland" (www.blockland.us) but if you go to thebettermod.com you can download a giant mod for it with a TON of features. or you can tryout blockland and the other mods. It's best to try around and find the one you like the best.
Rubang B @ Mar 5th 2007 7:10PM
Talk about a mod community. You could build LEGO Starcraft, LEGO Halo, LEGO Zelda, LEGO porn, LEGO Abu Ghraib, anything. This will become the new Second Life.
Zell @ Mar 5th 2007 7:17PM
Actually Mark, 'LEGOs' always irks me too, and most people seem to say that.
That being said, I'm a HUGE fan. I've played with LEGO as far back as I can remember and I still do. If this comes out for the Wii I'm all over it!
For other LEGO geeks, here's the town I've been working on:

"Lego is a company! What you are talknig about are Lego Bricks! Lego makes other things than Bricks... blah blah blah..."
No one gives a fuck what the correct form is. I love Legos and I will call them Legos until I die.

brings me back to my good old days of blockland. I made a modpack for it way back

Although obsolete today, it was great at the time.
I can only imagine a true lego mmo build from the ground up by an experienced company. Lets hope they dont aim it at kids (or make us pay monthly fees for that matter :P).
I still have such a stong bond with legos as an adult. I just loved lego star wars, and Im not really a fan of starwars.

oh god.. this will be pure awesome. how do I level up to get new parts?
REUYL @ Mar 5th 2007 10:18PM
I am (and have always been) a LEGO fanatic, and most of my LEGO creations are cars. Let me use them, PLEASE!

Oh Netdevil, I still thank ye for Jumpgate.
