my ps2 is broken. I have 50+ ps2 games. Should I buy an old ps2 + a 360? or a ps3?

A QUESTION FOR THE AGES!

Help me understand how Burnout is unrecognizable to you joystiq, also please tell us why you never list PSP titles upfront.

I had no idea Def Jam: Icon was coming out for the 360! I've seen Sony fanboys use that game to boast about the PS3, so I just assumed it was a PS3 exclusive.

That Wario game for DS looks pretty interesting....I'll have to check that out...been looking for a solid platformer for DS since I played Yoshi's Island 2.

Am I the only one who's totally psyched to play Sudoku on my television? Really, when you get the big names like Carol Vorderman backing your titles, you can't lose. This is the biggest thing to hit the console market this year, and it looks like all the so-called "next gen" consoles are missing out! LOL!!! What kind of "next gen" machine can't even play Sudoku!

Ryan - Look at the ps3 list of games coming out. see anything you want? then look at the 360 list. most of ps3's coming soon is already out.

just see which exclusives you want more. they both have great titles. but imo halo 3, mass effect, too human, bio shock, etc > mgs and ff13, heavenly sword and lair (as much as I LOVE MGS and FF, both have a good chance to hit on 360)

and make sure you check the ps3 bc list to see if your games will even work on ps3.

#2: Get a new PS2 (only $129 and you might be able to find a silver one still). Great investment as there are hundreds of great games out there. Even better, you can get them cheap at Gamestop/EB if you don't mind used. And let us not the #1 reason to still have a PS2!...(drum roll)...you still can't play Guitar Hero on PS3. :P

Oh thank god! Motorstorm - the game Sony fanboys have been saying will sell the system and destroy the 360 is finally here. I am so tired of hearing fanboys talk about this game like it was developed by Christ. Lets see how many units sell because of a racing title.

My PS3 does nothing on the average day, and I don't think I'll jump to get this title right away when something like GRAW2 is hiting shelves. Really, wtf is up with a dirt racing game being the huge title being waited for.

I've played the MotorStorm demo twice now. Meh. The only impressive thing is the riders. The cars look just as good in Burnout Revenge for Xbox.

This certainly isn't a killer app. It isn't even likely a good game.

Should be a fun week. Personally I think Raving Rabbids on the DS will outplay the Wii version.

As for Ghost Recon 2... Why? I mean, is it *REALLY* that different from GRAW to warrant a sequel already? Just hope the achievements in this one dont end in numbers other than 0s and 5s. It's fucking annoying to have a gamerscore ending in like a 3 or a 7.

What happened to Mario Party 8? Wasn't that supposed to come out today? If not, when is it being released?

Well we have "isn't even likely a good game" Motorstorm and what do we have for xbots? Yes, YET ANOTHER shooter game.
You know whats funny? The PS3 itself launched with a good ole shooter that blasted EVERY other shooter on 360 except the 5-hour minigame (Gears). No wonder so much xbot hate for both R:FOM and Killzone, if they turn out to be good, well there goes all justification for buying the overheating, noisy, shoodily made, pay 200USD extra for multiplayer 360. Of course, PS3 hammers the 360 in all other genres racing: Motorstorm, RPG: FF, White knight, Stealth: MGS, Flight: Lair, Fighting: VF5 / Tekken, Platform: Ratchet, Jak, and the likes of heavenly / GoW / Singstar / DMC for which nothing comparable on 360.

On one side, Motorstorm has to be the first offroad game I'm looking forward to in a LOOOONG TIME (ATV offroad fury being the last) just because each track is balanced to accomidate all the different vehicle styles and this is the first offroad game to actually FEEL like an offroad game.

On the other side, it's an arcade racer (but as an avid RR fan, when did this become a bad thing) so it's depth can be measured on the small end of the metric system.

No need to do that on pigbox. It almost certainly wont work. besides, PS has 100s of great old titles, nothing other than Halo or Ninja Gaiden (oops even thats on PS3) on c**pbox.

And of course most good titles on 360 are now coming to PS3. Guess what? that means having a one-year advantage is TOTALLY WIPED OUT.

And of course the PS3 has a eight year life vs 4 years for pukebox.
The PS3 coming out one year later = PS3 will be alive FIVE years after MS launches the "PS3 grade" 360 with HD, HDMI, bigger HD, less defective build and your noisebox is rendered obselete

How did it feel with the oldbox when it had NOTHING while PS2 had Okami / FF12 / GoW2 / Guitar hero / Mercenaries 2 etc etc.

Get a 360. My PS3 is a dust collector. My Wii and 360 get played almost everyday. The PS3? I check it for a pulse once in a while. Waiting impatiently for FFXIII and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Burnout Dominator? Is it worth it, or should we just wait for Burnout 5 on a current gen console? I hate playing my PS2/PS3 in probably unhealthy ways...but I love Burnout...grr...

C'mon Smik - that post is silly. The old xbox has little to do with current ones, and we all see the problems with titles it had. The 360 has had a great line-up of games, and you cannot seriously say the PS3 has a better one. There just aren't that many exclusives for it. It isn't happening again as you say it is.

Both machines have their weaknesses - but the PS3 game line-up is scary for those of us who have one.

its a big problem when your best games are a year away, or a generation ago.

I'm gunnin for Def Jam for the 360 though. My DS has been collecting dust, the ps2 is long gone, ps3 is pretty expensive. And I am completely burnt out on shooters.

While I agree with your other assessments... the VF series is better than DOA (except for titillation). I must admit that I have not played 5 yet (no PS3), but they have all been extremely high quality since 2, so I doubt that 5 has taken a turn for the worse.

To argue the PS3 has more games now or in the near future is just silly. It will eventually get there, but it seems that it will take at least as long to mature as the 360 did. Most of the best games coming in the near future for PS3 are old 360 games and PS2 games.

Motorstorm is a solid game, an 88 currently on metacritic, but according to the critic's averages it is less of a game than Burnout Revenge and PGR3 for 360. It just seems that great because there isn't any decent alternative game to play. Forza 2 will be out soon, at which time the 360 will have 3-5 solid racers for the 1 on PS3.

People are also are mistaken when they believe "all the 360 has is shooters." I looked at every game over an 80 on metacritic for PS3 and 360, and almost exactly 20% of each system's "good" games were shooters, both 3rd and 1st person. The only difference being that the 360 had 4 times as many shooters and 4 times as many non-shooters. And if you look at the pipeline for the next year, the 360 has more solid looking games coming out.

Just face it, the PS3 is not living up to the unreasonable expectations made for it. Sony made it seem as if the PS3 would simply blow the 360 into last gen when they embarked on their unbelievable hype campaign. Now, the argument has changed from "goodbye 360" to "just wait two more years and they'll maybe be about equal." I want a PS3 eventually and think the hardware is worth the extra $200, but the gaming experience is waaay behind the 360. I have friends with both systems and the PS3 rarely ever used.

If you are only going to own one next gen system and want the best options for games, the 360 has got to look good right now. And it really can't be overstated how nicely LIVE compliments the gaming experience. It really creates a sense of community and is very convenient.

God, and to think I almost believed the Killzone2 trailer and waited another 9 months to start next gen gaming. I would be furious right now if I had waited that long for something "better", only to see my gameless system collecting dust and wanting a 360 more than ever. Thank you Oblivion. (The game that put me over the edge to get a 360)

Jake - take it from me, it pisses you off when your ps3 just sits and gathers dust. I bought Flow just to feel like I was finally getting a game to play. My GF gets down-right pissy when she looks at that thing. The other day I was joking and asked if she had dusted it and got the response "F**k that thing, let it dust itself."

Gears = RFOM: Why? Different genres of shooters dipshit

VF5< DOA= Why? VF5 requires SKILL whereas DoA you just hit back and guard for the counter. Oh wait, you probably dont have skill so i see why you picked DoA, its a much more simple game.

GT < Forza= Sorry, Forza was crap, a lame rip off with added damage and body kits, whoopdy doo!, GT has MUCH better physics. Now if you said GT=PGR thats different, i myself love PGR because it started off on Dreamcast ( Metropolis Street Racer )

MGS> Splinter Cell: Better story(Deeper), better characters. Splinter Cell has slightly better graphics and multiplayer, which most people could care less about. Multiplayer has always been secondary in these types of games.

Geometry Wars = Flow: Same type of games, different but brilliant in their execution.

Halo > Killzone: Why? Well these types of games are fun playing in multiplayer. But based on single player experience and story, Killzone's story is better, yes it is, everyone in their mothers knows halo's story is rubbish, unless you read the comics, novels, etc..do you see the pattern? MS just wants money and only cares about you gamers later, "oh we'll just make MS fanboys pay for the story later, their mindless xbots, trust us they will pay for it"

There is more to a gaming experience than a "personal massager." Yes, yes I went there. Hell, Rival Schools Evolution Disc went there.

Personally, I felt a vast majority of offroading games (including the apex of the genre, ATV Offroad Fury) equated offroad racing to "tracks with bumps." However, the demo of Motorstorm alone proved there is much more to offroading than a track with bumps. They have alternative routes, areas that are easy for some machines whereas others have issues. They have areas that are flattened rock ledges that lead down to other ledges. They have dried river banks running through rocky ledges. While Motorstorm does, in fact, have tracks. It has officially gone beyond the stage of "tracks with bumps" and that's what I was referring to.

So many xbots getting defencive for some reason.. Maybe all of thier complaints about the PS3 are getting shot down one by one? Oh shit wait a second, did a Xbox fanboy say something about the PS3 backwards compatability!? That's a fuckin laugh.. Last time i checked the 360 only was backwards compatable with what..309 games.. and of those, YOU NEED the fucking hard drive! And the PS3? Even the european launch is said to be b/c with ALL PS1 titles over 1000 PS2 titles alone BEFORE firmware updates.. Face it fan boys, anything your little 360 can do, the PS3 can do the difference in GPU power is made up for in raw processing powerBut..but there's no PS3 exclusives! And the 360 exclusives? hell, even GoW is getting ported to the PC, why get a 360 at all when I can download the entire 360 library.. Splinter Cell's multiplayer is what set it so apart from MGS. Playing Spy vs Merc was badass. As for storyline they both were on par.

DOA is better since you could use the environments to you advantage. Also its hard to win with button mashing in DOA too.

Agreed with the multiplayer. However, too bad they completely nerfed it for 360. Storyline, sorry. Splinter Cells story has always been ass. MGS, well, it was ass too but it was high drama, well produced ass.

BZZZT! Wrongo. On gaming nights (I have a ton of friends over), DOA4 is the preferred fighter, not because it's difficult or balanced but because it's so shallow, within three rounds, even newbies start getting "balanced" fights. Veterans, however, get bored with it since our turns always end up Reverse Victories so we just go into another room and bust out something like VF5, Samurai Spirits IV, or SFIII.

Why does anyone expect Motorstorm to be a killer app? A "killer app" is defined by its sales - a piece of software so desirable that it sells hardware. Off-road racing is not a high profile genre. Not enough people care about off-road racing to turn an off-road racer into a killer app, regardless of how good the game might be. The top selling off-road racer for the PS2, ATV Offroad Fury, is all the way down in 23rd place among PS2 games! I don't expect off-road racing to become any more popular this generation than it was last generation.

Nice to see some semblance of sense in some of these comments. The pre-release skinny on Motorstorm is good. The PS3 line up is still weak, but will improve. Resistance: FoM is average, Gears good but overated. FPS wise nothing touches the holy trinity Metroid Prime, HL2 and Halo. Good news That new versions of all 3 out this year!

Does Burnout Dominator force update your firmware? If not I'm getting that. I'll get GRAW 2 on platinum, I still haven't beat GRAW yet.

Ahh, my PS3 finally gets a little love again. I will be picking up Motorstorm. GRAW 2 looks INCREDIBLE compared to the first one, but I still dunno if I will pick it up. Smik you sound like yet another broken hearted Sony Drone.. Guess what GRAW 2 is coming to the PS3 as well and the biggest launch title for Sony was RFOM. Should I start crying like a bitch that Sony gets nothing but shooters?? When you look at the most popular genres, shooters are at the top in the West. Dev's make those types of games to make $$$.. Crackdown isn't a "shooter" and that was published by MS (well unless you consider GTA a shooter) so they are expanding beyond "shooters".
