Three new classic games appear on the Wii's Virtual Console today, providing everyone with a little dose of spies, ghouls and, uh, Vermilion. For 800 Wii Points we have Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Capcom's classic platformer that is quite possibly one of the most difficult action games ever created. Also for 800 points is Sword of Vermilion, an early RPG from the Sega Genesis era. Finally, the classic NES game Elevator Action (500 points) rises to the VC and puts you in the shoes of a spy sneaking through a building stealing secret documents. It's no easy task following last week's Ocarina of Time VC debut, but the variety is good and should appease the raging video game demon within.

I loved Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I was only able beat that f'in game once, and it took the whole weekend. It's good to see games with a decent difficulty level coming back again. Last week it was Alien Hominid, now it's SG&G. I'm just waiting for the sequel to Ninja Gaiden on the 360.

Shit man, I can't believe I actually Beat Super GnG on the SNES itself, twice as required by the game (2nd time requiring that damn bracelet)! Although I'm quite proud of that accomplishment (nearly a project in itself), I still wish I'd waited to play it on an emu with save states.
Elevator Action is fun stuff, even tho I prefer games that end eventually, unlike say Tetris (GB game mode A) or Donkey Kong. but more like SMB.
This game was such a blast that I even picked up the Palm OS equivalents Agent Z and its Agent Z 2. Those are great b/c the player moves much quicker. Ie you're not counting sheep as the agent quickly scurries up a flight of stairs.

I'm not a big fan of the Wii VC.
But I must say, Ghouls N Ghost kicks ass.

Oh, and AFAIK, this game had a record # types of monsters who shoot projectiles and other magic from their crotches.

sword of vermillion and elevator action are ON when I get home...SNAPPPP. I used to have night long contests with my dad on Elevator Action back in the day. That was the only game besides Tetris I could get the old man to play :) man, the memories...

SGnG drove me absolutely crazy back in the day. That was one of the hardest games I actually ended up beating. I would recommend to people that they avoid this game, unless they don't have hair to pull out. Great game. Classic. Avoid it for your own mental health, though.

Huh...while I personally think Ghouls and Ghosts (the Genesis version) was the superior sequel, I might actually consider picking SGnG up to remind me just how pissed off those old games could make me. A little humility is good every now and then...

huh? I owned the Elevator Action cart for the original NES and it f'ing sucked eggs. Blech. Super Ghouls n Ghosts, never played it but psyched for it. Sowrd of Vermillion looks cool too. But Elevator Action. Bah. It's initials are EA and I think that says it all.

I don't own a Wii yet, once I do though, I'll probably be skipping Super GnG. That's gotta be the hardest game ever. Yes, I passed the game, multiple times in fact, but the tremendous effort and patience required just to get to the end of the game ain't worth it IMO.
